As far as content updates go- this one's a bit smaller. It's more of a victory lap- rounding out the game with a new boss, some new costumes, and some bugfixes. As far as first indie games go, Doomsday did really well- but it's no secret that it never got big. I'll continue fixing any bugs that pop up- but this will likely be the last content update unless we have a big Cinderella moment. Thank you all for playing and taking this journey with me! I'm thinking a bit more about the future, and while the Discord is a little slow between updates it's where I'll be pulling testers and players for future games. But I'm here and ready with the Wave 2 update, just in time for the launch of the Nintendo Switch version! Getting the game to run on the Nintendo Switch required a huge overhaul to the way the game loads and stores information. Alongside the new content, you should expect significantly reduced start up load times and memory usage- meaning you'll be able to play on even weaker machines than before. I don't want to keep anyone waiting. Here are the patch notes! Patch Notes 1.4.0 New Content Unlockable enemy Merrow joins the fray. Unlockable boss Sun Champ joins the fray. The Unlocks menu will showcase what costumes and enemies you still need to unlock... and their unlock conditions. The Collection menu will showcase everything you've found! A brand new Holiday Mode toggle will let you guarantee bosses appear in their holiday threads! The Spark Mother quest has now been enabled. Backend The startup load time is drastically reduced. The game's memory consumption is drastically reduced. The game no longer lags briefly when opening the Library menu. Bugfixes Fixed a bug where Godmother would not unlock despite completing her unlock condition. Typo fixes! But very few here. Minor UI tweaks to the Ending Cards. Fixed collection counters. Cleaned up a couple buggy UI transitions. Sound / Voice test key prompts are now always visible. Achievements now properly reset when resetting your save data. Special thanks to all the completionists in my Discord who have been sending in bug reports and typos! This patch is thanks to them. You may notice that the last patch notes were for 1.3.2- so what gives? 1.3.3 was pushed out! But it was some backend online stability fixes, and I thought a patch note that just read "more online tweaks" wasn't going to be all that exciting. Feature Tweaks Abandons are now counted even if you fail to save the world. Your stats pages will modify slightly as a result of this update. Bug Fixes Fixed a game hang that would occur after killing a non-boss enemy with the Blockbreaker item. Fixed a bug causing Doomsday Paradise 15 to misattribute all affection to Brymelle. Thanks to these reports and the accompanying save files- we've got numerous fixes! I've tested these pretty thoroughly, but I'm just one guy so let me know if you hit anything strange. The next content update will hit sometime this summer, so I'll be focused mostly on bugfixes until then. If you hit any issues, please leave a bug report in the Steam forums! It's the best way to bring them to my attention. Fixed Bugs Fixed a bug where Goblin King wouldn't appear in the introductory "Doom Approaches" screen. Removed Puff Puff Pillow from the random item pool. Now that the dust has settled a bit, I've got a new patch with some new fixes and a little surprise. Online Fixes This patch should fix most, if not all, the outstanding problems with the game's online mode. Please give it a try and let me know if you hit any more problems! This is thanks to everyone who was able to send me in-progress save files- which were incredibly helpful in reproducing these issues. Fixed a bug where quitting the game with the force quit button with the inventory open would crash the game. Fixed a bug where the host player would not convert the game to a local one when all other players had left. Fixed a bug where online games would disconnect when a player entered combat with a large inventory. Fixed a bug where online games would disconnect when a player started their turn. Fixed a bug where online games would disconnect when loading a continue file at specific latency sweet spots. Text Fixes Fixed a bug where the Cursed Buckler had a period at the end of its name. Misc typo fixes. Polish Improved the transition when opening the Online menu. Added a message when the online game lookup fails. This can be fixed by exiting and re-entering the Online menu. The Gallery Menu plays more nicely with mouse controls. The Credits Menu plays more nicely with the mouse wheel. Other A certain boss monster is wearing green! See if you can track them down. One of the goals was to increase variety around the Hospital location specifically- since very few quest lines started there. There's lots more to explore! Please continue sending me any online issues you might have! Fixed a bug where the game would indefinitely hang during online sessions after a joining player made a choice on slower connections. Fixed a bug where enemy attacks had a chance of crashing the game on slower connections. Fixed a bug where item activations might crash the game on slower connections. Fixed a bug where a host player entering sleep mode would break their game. Fixed a bug where the online keyboard would pop up for the 2nd / 3rd player in an online game when choosing a name despite not hovering over the Custom name selection. Gameplay Meteor now a free 2x Mag skill to be on par with other rare magic skills. The boss will be unlocked based on the number of games you've played. Finishing a game (or quitting a game) will unlock the boss if you meet their unlock conditions. Significantly more in-combat logging for better bug and crash detection. A new SFX has been added when viewing the endings screen. Bugfixes The online stability fix released last patch now correctly applies to miniboss battles (whoops) Online stability improvements. Ending 61 displays the correct text. Known Issues The functionality to preview something with hovertext has exposed some skills and items that weren't meant to be visible. These will be translated and corrected in the next content update, when everything goes through localization! Some item/skill tooltips don't have translations. Online tends to either work perfectly -or be a bit of a mess. Unfortunately, I'm in the camp where it works perfectly- so I've had an extremely hard time locating the exact issues. The stability improvements I've shipped have all helped- but I'm still flying a little blind. If on this patch you encounter online issues, join the Discord server and I'll be happy to join you for a game with the dev! This way, if we find the issue and can replicate it- I can figure out exactly what's breaking with my debug build and we can solve the issue on the spot. This is also why this patch has more in-depth logging- in order to better track down when things are falling apart. If you WERE hitting online issues but AREN'T anymore on this patch- also let me know! Because the online works for me, I also can't be confident the patches I ship out solve things for everyone. From there, the game's host can try to Continue it by navigating to "Online" and then pressing "Continue". This will create a new lobby that will pick up where the old game left off. New Icons for a small handful of skills that were sharing art with others. This patch has a special surprise! See if you can find it. Polish Name Select has the Custom name at the top of the screen instead of the bottom to be easier to use for Steam Deck and controller setups. There's now a proper tooltip when hovering over your Dodge % Art Gallery now wraps long names. Buff skills now "count up" when activated. Bugfixes Online stability updates should reduce the number of disconnects in combat. Ghost tooltips should now actually be gone from status icons. Purifying an item no longer causes the reroll indicator to appear over it. Canceling a hosted "continue" game should no longer bug out the next attempt to host it. Echo Blade will no longer crash your game after you equip a duplicate of an existing weapon. Cleo's Stat Detection uses correct HP value. Powder Monkey and Pacifist use the correct icons. Items correctly "count up" when activated in combat. This is what I can talk about publicly for the next few months: Demons Attack! First, expect new enemies and bosses over the next few months. These will be dropped in waves, so you have a lot of new toys to play with at once. These enemies and bosses will be free for all players. New Scenarios and Endings Secondly, expect a small number of new scenarios and endings. This won't be a huge content update- but my focus will be on making areas with a small number of opening stories have better payoff, and supplying payoff for some followups that don't turn into full endings. These will also be dropped alongside the enemy updates and will of course also be free and available for all players. Leave it to me, Captain! Alongside the new scenarios and endings, expect a few more rewards for the pool. There won't be a ton of these, and they'll be primarily focused on shoring up some gaps in existing builds and playstyles. Update Format Adding one enemy or one event at a time isn't a great reason to come back and explore, so content updates will be grouped together in larger waves. Occasionally, when there's set to be a lull, we can expect some content to be trickled out during slow periods. But for the most part, content will be bunched together in waves, so you can check back in every couple months and find more to do! The first wave won't come until February, but do expect a few goodies after the holidays are over. Until then, patching will be primarily focused on shoring up bugs. All location text for the Hospital clarifies that you fully heal. Magical attacks no longer display reduced damage when you're afflicted by weak. Mystery Box Items will no longer appear flipped for enemies. Typo fixes. Having Online Troubles? I've received very few reports of online issues after 1.0.3. If you encounter any issue going forward, please do the following! 1. Send me the file at C:\Users\{YOUR_USER}\AppData\Roaming\LemonadeFlashbang\DoomsdayParadise\midgame_save.dat 2. Alongside the file, let me know what happened. ("Me and a friend were playing and right after my items activated he disconnected and the game broke.") With your midgame save, I should be able to test that particular part multiple times to look for vulnerabilities and can hopefully find a quick resolution. Upcoming I'll be going on holiday vacation soon! For the next two weeks, there won't be any additional patches. Fortunately, the game appears pretty stable but if you encounter any issues leave a note in the bug thread. However, there's some stuff cooking right now. When I return, expect a new update! In fact, if you're an indie game developer thinking of submitting for an award, you should probably think again because you've got no shot. But because of that, you don't have any other games to submit for the category and this one has as a crab in a speedo so why not? You hate the other games in the category more than this one. You're hoping the extra visibility results in a billion sales so I can create beefier content updates. You're hoping the extra visibility results in a lot of adult artists finding the game. You love this game and want to see it get enough reviews to be eligible for Overwhelmingly Positive. You hate this game, and you're hoping the increased visibility lowers my review score. You are hoping that if any of the game characters become real they will see what you did for them and think you're a pretty cool guy/gal. Your friend has a different favorite game and you don't want to vote for it. But what will you do with the power of winning an online popularity contest? Why do you even want to win this? And that's a good question. That's a lot of power for just one random indie developer to have. There are many on paper reasons why a developer like myself would covet this kind of thing. The free visibility for example, or the feeling of accomplishment that only winning an online popularity poll can bring. But the real reason I want to win this is because I want to gloat. Of course, that's not the only reason but it IS like, 90% of my motivation. It's no secret that the Steam Awards mostly get won by AAA games and the occasional mega-indie hit. But we have something those games don't. We're way hotter. I've done a great deal of scientific analysis and come to the conclusion that 95% of Doomsday Paradise players are hot bisexual women, and the other 5% are hot people of every other orientation. Online is hard, and while that's true it's not an excuse for what I feel is an unacceptable play experience. So I've been crunching for the last few days to get this update out the door as soon as possible. This updates features some bugfixes, typo fixes, and the introduction of mid-game saving. It's been pushed out much faster than a typical cadence because every unfinished game breaks my heart. New Features {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41677891/7df5717dcd9849b99b0430690363eef284dc0732.png Mid-game saving Multiplayer games can take a long time, and it sucks to lose your file and all your progress. The game will now automatically save after every turn. The second person to join the lobby will take control of player 2, the third player 3, etc., I'd like to get it to where your join order doesn't line up with your character but I didn't want to delay the patch behind additional UI work. Polish Item descriptions in the shop now have a shadow so they're slightly easier to read. Enemy tooltips have the correct styling. Weapons and Skills now show their names when hovered over instead of nothing. Some UI elements in the name and costume selection screens have been updated. Bugfixes Typo fixes Fixed a bug where purified curses could not be rerolled unless you re-opened the menu. Lifewand now displays the correct amount of healing. Fixed an instance where a line of dialogue was cut shorter than intended. The previous patch's "reroll lockout" bug has been fixed for skills as well. The online timeout period should be increased, resulting in far fewer disconnects. We've had a really incredible launch. I'm writing this about a day before this patch will go live- and at the time of writing we have a 99% positive review rate after spending over a day on New and Trending! I'm a first time commercial dev, so the response being so positive has been completely overwhelming. Thank you all for your support and understanding even when things don't behave perfectly. I'm committed to ensuring that Doomsday continues to get better with time. Patch Notes Version 1.0.1 Launch has been extremely smooth and relatively bug free- but not quite perfect! There's a few obvious pain points in some small areas that this patch is meant to address. Pressing the back / cancel button closes the purify menu and not the underlying item menu when the purify window is active. Fixed an issue where, in online multiplayer games with 3-4 players, the joining players could disconnect from one another during a dialogue sequence and cause the game to indefinitely hang. Roadmap We're only a few days past release, so I can't give a complete overview of what to expect- a lot of it hasn't been scoped out yet. I do want to touch on where my head currently is at, but that doesn't mean any of this is set in stone. Treat the below as tentative plans and not as promises or guarantees. For some players, online is smooth and there are no issues. For others, the game crashes at the very end and they lose an hour or more of progress. My absolute first priority is ensuring that fewer games fall apart after a disconnect. If you've had bugged or crashed games during online, please reach out via Discord or the Steam community forums with a description of what happened. Please be as specific as possible.
