DokiToki: Time Slows Down When You're In Love

Dev Update - SeptemberSep 25, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHey hey hey! Here with another update! Planning planning planning...... Been a minute since I posted any development updates. That's mainly because I've spent the last few months going hardcore in planning the "on-paper" details for the game. Things like writing dialogue, outlining the plot, designing puzzles, among a few other behind the scenes details. The good news as that most of the important details have been figured out and locked in! So that means I've been able to dive back into developing new mechanics and new levels for the full game. New item: Copy-Paste! While the game is centered around freezing and unfreezing objects in time, there'll be a few other items with their own unique mechanics and puzzles as well. The first one I'd like to share is the clipboard & paintbrush! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/4793440ec0e1a2f81fac10ef443f6730ed0d6608.gif This item allows you to copy the material of one object and paste it onto another. You can use this to make things bouncy, floaty, heavy, as well as few other adjective ending in "y". And the idea will be to use these for clearing obstacles and reaching keys that let you get to the next level! These different items will also be tied to other characters featured in the game. Meet Penny! So far, gameplay footage and artwork has mainly focused on Ai. While she is the protagonist, there'll be plenty of characters she meets on her journey who are central to the story. And so with this update, I'd like to share the first of those characters: Penny Doolum! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/257c95084ddb696476d7a9f919a9de8fb1a3a461.png She's a member of the school's art club, and particularly loves painting. The only problem is, she tends to overthink just about everything. From what color socks to wear, to what sort of scenes she should paint. This leads her to be quite indecisive, and so she tends to spend way more time standing in front of a blank canvas than actually painting anything 😅 She's just one of many folks Ai will meet on her journey to find love, and I hope you can look forward to seeing what sort of role Penny will play in the game's story :) Wrap-up Apologies again for the delay between updates! The plan now though is to keep working directly on developing new content prepping for the demo release! Also, the best place to stay most up to date would be the DokiToki Discord server, and second best place is the game's Twitter! That's all for now, thanks for reading and I hope you have a nice day! :)DokiToki be in Tiny Teams 2022!Jul 25, 2022 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/0ebcdd62f6e82ffe7279649ddebebd43fa0d1bcc.png I'm honored to announce that DokiToki has been selected for this year's Tiny Teams festival! It's sure to be a great show! :DDevlog #1Jan 29, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsIntroduction From the start I've set out to have anime-style visuals to go with the anime-inspired premise and characters. And little by little I've been working toward achieving that style while also making things more aesthetically pleasing. It's probably the one aspect that's being improved and tweaked most frequently, and if you've seen the Steam page change over time, you've probably already noticed some of these modifications! Environments {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/c569debe6904bfbd3d0b242cf99afa62d09346ad.png From the start, the hallways and classrooms have been built on simple blocky shapes, but now they've been given toon shaders to help makes things pop. Plus some light rays and other particles falling through the windows to recreate the feel of a school hallway on a bright, sunny morning seen in the countless high school themed anime. Items {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/52dc897248b052d2cc67f5953c300246945fa191.png The game is all about freezing, unfreezing, and manipulating objects in time. Therefore, a key point is how these items are presented. They've been given a subtle pink glow and bright white outlines to fit with the new style of the surrounding environments. Characters {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40664030/06ed9bea0c81c9cb0ffdffb7eae7d3143e90a311.png Lastly, the artwork for the characters has been given an upgrade too! These will be used for the in game sprites during the dialogue scenes, and a couple other UI-related features. That's it for this post! With how the visuals are always being tweaked an upgraded, I could probably make every update post about visual changes, haha, but really, the main point here is that the visuals are always changing little by little, so keep an eye out. With that said, the plan for the next post is to focus on more technical aspects. Particularly some gameplay mechanics used for solving puzzles. Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a good day!Kickstarter Coming Soon!Dec 30, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHello and Happy Holidays! Over the last several months, I've been hard at work adding features and assembling levels for DokiToki: Time Slows Down When You're in Love, in addition to handling some logistics like communicating with freelancers and securing funding for this project. In case you didn't already know, I am working on this game as a solo dev. Since my skills lie in programming and level design, I'm relying on the help of many talented freelancers to fully bring my vision to life. This includes the work of 2D artist, 3D modelers, voice actors, composers, and graphic designers among other specialists. Of course, these individuals deserve to be paid in full for their work, which, as you might imagine, can get quite expensive. More than what I could handle on my own. That's where Kickstarter comes in! The plan is to use Kickstarter to raise the funding needed to pay these amazing folks for their wonderful work in bringing the characters and game world to life. Over the next few months, I'll be doing work behind the scenes to finalize plans with these collaborators in preparation for the full Kickstarter campaign. With this in mind, I've gone ahead an published the project's "pre-launch" page which you can find here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dokitoki/dokitoki-time-slows-down-when-youre-in-love If you're interested in potentially supporting the projects, please consider following our Kickstarter and sharing the link with anyone you think might find the game fun! By following on Kickstarter, you'll be notified when the campaign fully launches. Besides the Kickstarter, I am also planning on posting monthly devlogs via announcements just like this one, so be on the lookout for the first devlog coming soon! Thanks for your time in reading this, and Happy Holidays to anyone who is celebrating!
