And that is the reason why I wanted to contact you! I have to tell you what I discovered earlier today. This morning during my routine walk around the Island I went to our weather station to check what kind of weather I can expect over the next few days. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the station showed that some strange, never-seen-before anomalies will occur in the not-so-distant future. I think we should all keep our eyes on the sky from now on. I don’t think the umbrella will help here. After checking the weather station, I had a nice chat with John. He told me that soon his shop will stock more varieties of veggies. I hope he won’t get angry at me for telling you that. He also mentioned that he saw some mushrooms all over the Dinkum island? Imagine what we could do with them if that’s true! I just wanted to let you know that I am aware that some players have been having issues with saving and loading their games. Since releasing Dinkum I have paid as much care as possible to keeping player’s saves throughout the entire Early Access period. This always has been and continues to be very important to me. For the Summer Sun Update we made a lot of changes to the internal of Dinkum, including writing a new save system. The old system was very bloated - it had far too many separate files and often caused problems with Steam Cloud syncs. The new system is much smaller, taking the file amount down from around 60 files to just 3. The Summer Sun update was tested publicly for over three weeks, this was in part due to my concerns with the new save system. Over those 3 weeks, a lot of bugs were reported, but no issues were found relating to players using the new save system. However, since the public release, some rare cases of save file corruption have been reported. For anyone that has experienced this I would like to sincerely apologize. I know how much some player’s islands mean to them and I can not express my regret enough. I have been working tirelessly on improving the new save system and I’ve included these changes in this hotfix. I am hopeful that these changes will mitigate any further problems. Once again, I apologize if your save was affected by these changes. I hope this hotfix prevents these kinds of problems in future. A tease of what's coming to Dinkum IslandAug 25, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHey everyone, I know you’ve all been waiting patiently for the Summer Sun update. I want to make sure this update is the best it can be. So once again, I’m going to regretfully ask you to wait just a little bit longer. There have been some exciting things happening behind the scenes that I can’t share just yet. Things that I know will make a big difference in Dinkum’s future, and some other things that need to be done if Dinkum is ever going to leave early access. So yeah, there has been a lot of work being done to Dinkum’s core. This work makes it much easier to change or add things to Dinkum, but in the end, a lot of these changes won’t be visible to players. That being said, I want the Summer Sun Update to have a bunch of new things that really extend Dinkum’s endgame experience. So why don’t I give you a little sneak peek of two features I think are really cool? The first thing I want to show: Dinkum now has dynamic weather patterns that can change throughout the day. This means the sky might be clear during the day, but it might rain at night time. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35352186/e8b5c94d1825b116319b72bc46b1565490ee12e3.png You’d be surprised how much this adds to Dinkum, not only does it make the world feel more alive, it also adds some interesting choices for players to consider. For example, a player might want to check if it’s going to rain later in the day before they water their crops. This new weather system is much more powerful than the old version. So it will be easy to expand on and add new weather events in the future. Now this is something I’m really excited to show off. This is an endgame building, so you’re going to have to meet certain conditions to build one on your island. Once your Airport is built, every now and again you’ll be able to catch an Airship off your island for the day. These little excursions will be similar to a mine trip, but a lot more breezy. As you know I’ve been hard at work on the Summer Sun update. Things are taking a bit longer than expected, so I’ve taken a little bit of time off to work on a smaller update. In this update John is running a little event in his shop to celebrate Dinkum’s anniversary! That’s right, next month marks Dinkum’s first year since entering Early Access. When I put Dinkum up on Steam I expected it to be in Early Access for at least a year (now it looks like it might actually be a bit longer). I never expected so many people to play and enjoy my game, so I decided I wanted the updates to contain a lot more content than I was originally planning. So, while you wait for the next major update please enjoy the new items available in this “Anniversary Event” update. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35352186/8cbe3078e071063a5f8248893c0cbfbca743e91d.png If you visit John on your island you’ll find his little green prize box on his counter. The items in here can be used to decorate your island and celebrate one year of Dinkum. To get the items you’re going to have to earn some Prize Tickets (John needs to make some Dinks off this event after all). Prize tickets can be earned by selling John any fish. If you give Franklyn some shiny discs he might come up with a new way to get around the island with your mates. I’ve also snuck in some other new craftable items in this update and a few new furniture items. I hope you have fun discovering all the new things in this mini update and hopefully it’s enough stuff to play with until the Summer Sun update is ready to go. I’ve been working on new Dinkum content for quite some time, and I am now happy to announce that the second major Dinkum update is ready for you to play! With the Bloomin’ Spring update a new resident is joining our community, some new wildflowers will spring up on the Island, you can build a new building in your town, dive deeper into the deep min, and many more surprises that I left here and there for you to find. If you want to know more details about what’s coming to Dinkum, keep on reading. But if you don’t want to spoil the fun of discovery, you can jump into your Dinkum island and find the surprises yourself. Whatever option you choose, I hope you enjoy all the new content. In that case, let me tell you more about the Bloomin’ Spring update. From today you can say hello and become friends with Sheila, our new villager on Dinkum Island. You can find her at your local Visitor Site. Sheila loves food and her hobby is cooking. She is known to make some tasty tucker. If you want her to move permanently to your town, you’re going to have to cook up some treats for her. Sheila is the owner of Tuckerbox, a local tuckshop. Keep your eyes open for Jackaroo Paw, the Flannel Flower, River Daisies and a bunch of Paper Daisies Rayne has started selling Jacaranda saplings in her greenhouse. These are available all year, but blossom into a bright purple colour in spring. What can be better than the back garden full of flowering plants.
