Early Access 1.16.1 - Bug Fixes and OptimisationsMay 19, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsThis update fixes a lot of bugs, thank you for your feedback alerting us to them. We've also updated our pathfinding system to support multiple AIs - soon we will start adding new enemies and wildlife! We're aware of an issue where the airship can get caught in the terrain. If this happens to you please submit a feedback, we've added some extra information to the logging to help us resolve it. Patch Notes Optimised seeker spawn stutter Optimised location loading stutter Autosave now occurs when you land rather than when you get near a location The "recover your items" message after dying now specifies your coffin's location Coffins now disappear after being emptied Hopefully fixed issue with disappearing terrain Fixed crafted nail/screw boxes only giving 1 nail/screw (now 5) Fixed crafted bullet boxes only giving 1 bullet (now 6) Fixed issue where you wouldn't respawn after dying and could access inventory but not move or do anything else. Fixed fortune teller wobblehead not appearing in inventory when picked up Fixed not being able to pick up food tin in Badlands iron cave Fixed error if you looked at the burner while trying to build another apparatus Fixed loading error if a coffin was saved and loaded twice Fixed error where a coffin on the airship would appear floating in the air Fixed error where a coffin or item on the airship wouldn't stick to the airship after save and load Early Access Update 1.16 - New Open WorldMay 12, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsNew Open World Desert Skies now has a fixed open world map instead of one that is procedurally generated as you fly. This makes exploring the deserts a more engaging experience which will keep getting better as we fill the world with lots of details to find and explore. Press M to view the in-game map to help you navigate the world as you search for locations, caves and resources. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/6826ae05f6b8c36a3438d76a0ffffdb41e3d1069.png The current version of the world is just the beginning. It was mostly created using our old procedural generation tools with a bit of manual editing. Now that it's fully operational we will be working on new world creation tools to empower us to hand-craft lots of interesting areas to find and explore in the deserts. As we improve the world over coming updates borders will shift, biomes will become unique, and the landscape will grow with hills, valleys, canyons, roads/rails and more. New UI We now have artwork for our menus, in-game HUD and interfaces! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/d23eba9af450b39d0296ece3aabfc5c46ecb9438.png The build menu will also be updated after we make some gameplay changes to how you find and learn schematics to build. Inventory System Our old inventory system could not work with multiplayer, so we rebuilt it. The new system is multiplayer ready and has improved features - you can split item stacks, it will remember which slot you like to keep each tool and consumable in, and it intelligently picks which stacks to add items to and remove from. Other Changes The wind can now blow in any direction instead of always pointing westerly. We have improved how the wind and engine interact so that it's easier to fly the direction you want even when it's against the wind. White Sands is now a biome of towering dunes interspersed with fields of bright red flowers, while Salt Flats is now very flat. These are the first steps in these biomes' development, with more to come as we improve our world building tools. We have created a weather system. This first version changes cloud formations when the weather changes, and in future will support additional weather effects like dust, lighting, wind intensity and sandstorms. In-game interactions like opening doors and harvesting resources are now using a rebuilt interaction system which supports multiplayer. We have rebuilt our save system to support the fixed open world. Currently resources and locations will reset when you fly away and return to an area, but once we've added more content we will switch over to permanent saving - any changes you make to the world will be there forever. As a side effect of rebuilding our systems, several bugs no longer exist. Any existing problems with inventory or items are gone, as well as bugs like planted prickly pears not growing fruit or duplicate items appearing at workstations after loading a game. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/972d78b30e25816451de009fb41d944615b53c32.png Multiplayer Update We are close to...Early Access Update 1.15 - CavesJan 29, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsThis update brings caves to Desert Skies! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/79f69d72a1e43ec72fc9f7b6f1b9d75f945133dc.png Caves are a fun diversion from flying across the desert and are a great source of coal, iron, gold, sulfur and saltpeter. Keep an eye out for cracked walls while spelunking and hit them with a pickaxe to reveal secret tunnels! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/38cfc74ad001b7e3165710d2ce508054994a041c.png There are two unique caves in each biome (16 total). We developed new generation tools to help us create the caves and over time we will expand those tools with new tunnel types and more unique cave scenes so that we can make bigger and better caves. The cave generation tools will also serve as the basis for new location generation tools, to help us for example create a series of larger and more complex towns. We're going to spend the next week researching what we need to complete cooperative multiplayer, then we'll post a timeline on our forum. We're also looking at switching to a fixed map - once we have a playable version we'll be seeking your feedback whether that's the best direction for Desert Skies. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/0c41c760d749ddd3fdbe84802a113324aa86749e.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/63c54fd36eb299a12b10b1ab58c64912fc3475fe.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/bcef5ab101d826ba1f42af3a0405075ec7be0a3d.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/b09ce9db58e8f93939ddbf5e4a5c6acd8ee9b592.png Full Patch Notes Each biome has two caves to explore (look for the silver beacons). New drop flare item to help when exploring caves. Loot has been rebalanced in all locations. Mines on surface have been rebalanced across biomes. The old small points of interest have been removed in favour of mines, we will re-use them in future. Airship turning speed has been doubled. Fixed bug where loading save deep in gold mine could result in instant death. Fixed bug where already looted items could reappear after loading game. Early Access Update 1.14.7 - Happy New Year!Dec 31, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsNew Year celebrations have come to the desert! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/b7552edb7ec2e12d3622494748bb9850bcec40b8.png You can now find large buckets of fireworks in every location. You will be able to set them off immediately, or wait until midnight for a synchronised show. Larger locations have more fireworks. We recommend Coalridge Station, Sunken Forest, Clifftop Cabin and Area 51 for the most impressive displays. You don't have to be in the location to see the fireworks, they look great when flying past in your airship too! Full Patch Notes The Sleeping Bag and Bed now have the options to sleep until morning, evening or midnight. Fixed a rare save file bug where some apparatus would not load. This fix repairs the save file but you may lose a single apparatus (the one causing the bug). Early Access Update 1.14.5 - FarmingDec 24, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThis update introduces farming to your airship! Harvest dirt with your shovel from new dirt mounds and build planting beds aboard your airship. With this update you can grow trees for wood and prickly pear cactuses for food and water. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/7d32bbbce38f64edb8d24f3ab487f5794b9513cf.png We will be adding the Kitchen and food buff system soon with a lot of other crops to grow as well, along with some decorative plants to brighten up your airship. Full Patch Notes Build the Tall Planting Bed on your airship. Plant a seed and add some water then watch your plants grow. Joshua Trees in the Oasis and the Abandoned Manor have a chance to drop seeds. Prickly Pear cactuses will sometimes have flowers which you can pick for seeds. Dirt mounds can be found in the desert and locations, harvest them with a shovel to gather dirt for your planting beds. Fertilizer can be found in locations, add it to a growing plant to speed up its growth. Fixed a save game bug where your game would stop saving after you had died a few times. This bug was really tricky, it was triggered by an issue with the coffins, thank you for the feedback which helped us to track it down! Fixed bug with sulfur mines having no sulfur sometimes. Added wells to more locations and increased food and water in the early game. The Still can now be filled with water from a canteen or bucket as well as waterskins. Fixed bug where dying with the build menu open would lock it on screen. Dropping nails, screws and bullets now drops a box instead of the small models. If you have a knife in your inventory you'll be able to pass a skill check to ...Early Access Update 1.13.2 - Better ProgressionAug 12, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThis update improves the progression system in the current game to be closer to our goal. There are now 6 biomes with the locations spread out between them. The 4 new biomes are copies of an existing one with different colour schemes. We will replace these temporary versions with the real ones as we develop them. Keep an eye out for the title that appears as you fly into each biome for a hint about what it will eventually become! We have also changed the beacon system. Locations you have not visited yet will now have a green beacon, while ones you have visited will still be gold. By visiting each of the locations in a biome you will unlock the next biome with a green beacon - so basically keep looking for green beacons to keep progressing forwards. Existing saves have had their beacons reset so it can drive you forwards into the new biomes. We've also more than doubled the amount of desert you can see at a time, from 1 to 2.6 miles! To help you spot things in the new distance we've added a squint zoom - just hold down right mouse or left trigger to zoom in. In the crafting update we'll be adding a spyglass for even more zoom. Other changes: Locations with essential items will not let you leave if you haven't looted the item. The Seeker now retreats if you stand on your airship for a short time. New graphics settings for Terrain Range, Content Range and Content Density. Lower them to improve your framerate or increase them for a larger denser desert. Added 3 new points of interest appearing in the new biomes. All locations now have campfires and lamps which you can activate to help you see at night. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/1a18887be218c56f33f2f45c2ac49494f2ac4864.png Check the forum for our Plans and Previews post about our next update - Crafting - and follow us on twitter @DesertSkiesGame for dev updates about what we're working on next.Early Access Update 1.13.1 - Night FallsJul 23, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsThis update introduces a day and night cycle to Desert Skies! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/c727c5f8bb8598fb16d30240cee2b40b162d8d46.png Build lamps on your airship and carry a torch into locations to continue your journey when night falls. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34741963/34facc344644db1ed238243ebd20a7ae6c702fcc.png Our Twitter is now active! Early Access 1.10 - New location, decorations and things to build, plus torchesAug 25, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThis update adds a new location with a new wobblehead and some new pieces to the story. This update has been a slow one while we’ve been experimenting for our next major update, now we're full speed ahead again. Check out our roadmap for details on the changes to come! New Location - This secret facility in the desert was built to study the creatures by an enigmatic inventor and scientist. Above ground they've been experimenting with airships. Below ground.... In this location you will find loot, story elements, a schematic for something new to build, and a new wobblehead! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/8516767a20beacc614c965942b0d55e6a7a78577.jpg Lights You can craft a torch at the workbench and a lantern at the blacksmith. Equip them to light up the area around you. They will come in handy because caves are now quite dark! You can also find a lamp in your build menu for lighting up your airship. With working lights we're one step closer to having a day and night cycle! https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/3b18e4725b475cfd684260b2bbb43d2b4b085cea.jpg Paintings We've added a new type of decoration for your airship to be found in the world - paintings! A bed can now be built on your airship to replace the sleeping bag. With a bed you'll keep all your items after dying! To go with your bed you can also build a bedside table for decorations and a little bit of storage. You need to find the schematic for the bed in the new location before you can build it. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/fbc528ed02944aca3935676bd20654e73b3f6c60.jpg Tweaks When respawning on a sleeping bag you'll keep a hammer and 2 pieces of wood in your inventory, so that you can survive even if you lose your coffin. You can now choose between 4 different crosshairs from the in-game settings menu, including some larger ones. We'll add more options in the future. We've lowered the mountain at the Old Coot's place so you no longer get stuck on it. Fixed bug where dropping items in a stack then picking one up could make the others disappear. Early Access 1.9 - New location, new NPC, quests, collectables, new buildables, and more!Jul 11, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThis big update brings a new location, a new NPC with quests to complete and a cool reward, a new danger in the gold cave, a series of collectables, a water barrel and water tank for storing water on your airship, carrying water in buckets, new buildable furniture, and fixes and tweaks! What is a wobblehead? It's a cool little figurine for decorating your airship, and when you take off its head wobbles! There are 13 to collect, one hidden in each location after the start. We have been extra devious in hiding the wobbleheads and they don't get highlighted as you enter a location, so you're going to have to keep your eyes peeled and search high and low to find them (hint hint). https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/dce5eb878a9f5ba2996f00302977940dcf450846.png More furniture With 13 wobbleheads you'll need somewhere to place them! The barrel holds 3 canteens worth of water, while the tank holds 7! You'll need a way to fill them up, so you can now equip the bucket. We've changed the hit detection on the Seeker's heart shard, it should be more accurate for all players now. We've improved the feature where holding down the interact button keeps harvesting/shooting/etc, you won't have that issu...Early Access 1.8 - Seeker UpgradeJun 29, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsThis update overhauls the Seeker with a lot of changes! Our goal was to make hiding from the Seeker as it hunts you a more engaging cat-and-mouse experience, and to make combat with the Seeker more difficult (once you have the weaponry necessary to defeat it). Check out our post in our Steam forum with full details of what has changed, and please let us know what you think of the Seeker now! We will tweak the Seeker further based on feedback in the next few patches, and in the longer term we have additional changes planned including different types of Seekers with new combat abilities. Upcoming This was a long patch focused on upgrading our enemy code for the Seeker and future enemies. Now we're going to work on a number of smaller and more frequent updates with new content, new gameplay and bug fixes. Other Changes This Patch - As part of the Seeker changes you now have a stamina bar limiting your sprinting when the Seeker has spawned. When there's no Seeker you still have unlimited sprinting. - Overhauled the showdown location. - Hard Mode - items are no longer highlighted when entering location. - Temporarily removed fullscreen/resolution/vsync settings from in-game menu as they have been causing issues for some players. We will return these settings ASAP once we figure out what wasn't working properly. - Press F11 to hide/show the HUD (for taking screenshots). - You can now hold down the interact key (default left mouse) instead of needing to keep pressing it (useful for harvesting and shooting). - Fixed labels on left/right movement keys in Input tab in launcher. - You can jump over the hedge in the restaurant location now. - Fixed Seeker spawn points in upgraded locations from previous patch. - Fixed bug that resulted in too many cactus fruits spawning in locations. - Fixed bug that allowed decorations to spawn in containers at locations - decorations should only appear as items within a location. - Fixed music setting not turning music off when selected.Early Access 1.7.1Jun 21, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsWe finished some new cosmetic options for your airship and couldn't wait for the next patch to include them, so here they are! In your build menu you'll find two new types of airship building blocks: lattices and leaves. These platforms, walls and ramps add a touch of class to your airship and brighten it up with more light and a bit of colour. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/f5db5a048da4145588c4eb04151e455bc7aefe1a.png You'll also see a new option on the build menu for furniture. We're starting you off with two types of table and a shelf, the beginning of the options we'll be adding in coming patches. What use are tables and shelves without something to put on them? Hidden in a few locations you can now find two new decorations - a ship in a bottle and a stuffed parrot. https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/a646724b93383dae51346a63c72dc1ad6a97528b.pngEarly Access 1.7Jun 19, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsFor this update we have overhauled many existing locations to make them bigger and more interesting, with more story elements! Here's a sneak peak at one changed location: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/21d23c3f38912896f939412c074f6734506fa4d0.png https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34741963/49ebeca3e7126e0e97eccb2d66789a1d62c597c7.png In changing the layout of these locations we have created different arrangements of obstacles. This lays the groundwork for our next patch, which will improve the Seeker experience. We want to make fighting the Seeker (once you can kill it) more challenging, through improving the Seeker's AI and making use of the new location layouts. In doing so we don't want to make it harder for new players in the early game though, instead we're aiming for a more exciting cat-and-mouse experience as you try to avoid the Seeker while looting the location. After the big content update of this patch we also want to work on a lot of smaller improvements such as loot rebalancing, new things to craft, something new to harvest with a new tool, some new things in the desert between locations, and more NPCs.Early Access 1.6.2Jun 14, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsMore bug fixes! We're now turning our attention back to new content for the next patch, unless any critical issues pop up of course. We have rewritten the deconstruction system to be much more robust, this should eliminate any remaining issues with deconstructing platforms. The airship no longer takes off automatically when you input fuel. We've attempted another fix for the rotated camera issue that happens randomly to some people sometimes when they die and respawn. The Seeker will no longer chase you into Hermit Oasis. Dropping items while flying on the airship no longer stops its movement. Fixed sky turning black if you die inside cave and respawn. Seeker corpse no longer blocks movement so you can't get trapped by it. Fixed blacksmith sound not being positional. Fixed crates on train platform that could trap you if you jumped in between them.
