Celebrating 1 year of Community ChallengesMay 27, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHello Miners, Over the past year, our community has been creating their own in-game challenges, each week bringing a new challenge with self-imposed rules and creative twists that change how you play the game. Examples include: “Kinetic Bounce” - complete a run only using kinetic weapons, “Beyblades” - drones only, or “Naked Beams” - only use beam weapons (sooo many beams!) What started as a couple of fun wacky ideas shared on Discord has grown into something much bigger. You’ve proven that the game can be played in so many more ways, with new strategies, pure chaos, and insane runs! To everyone who has created a challenge, streamed a wild run, or just joined in: Thank you! The passion that we see from all of you gives us energy and inspires us to keep pushing for more. Fun fact: Community challenges were actually a big source of inspiration for our “Lethal Operations” and “Vanguard Contracts”. If you’ve never seen these challenges before, now’s the time! Join our Discord and check out the challenge announcements channel to explore past challenges and join new ones. Pssst...psst.... the next challenge is going to be Celebrate with a Bang . Keep an eye out on the channel for more info. Here’s to many more crazy challenges and epic runs! Keep creating and sharing, we’ll be watching (… and probably failing a few challenges ourselves.) If you’re curious, click below to see a list of all the challenges created so far: (If you can't see the "Show Details" button, try opening the post in a browser or in the Steam client) Challenge 1: Pool party Challenge 2: Pretty weapons Challenge 3: There can only be one Challenge 4: Gotta go fast Challenge 5: Greybeards Challenge 6: Save the bugs Challenge 7: Lucky charms Challenge 8: Fast Little legs Challenge 9: Kinetic Bounce Challenge 10: Becoming a firework Challenge 11: Light Brigade Challenge 12: Beyblades Challenge 13: Tank You Challenge 14: Snack Attack Challenge 15: Spray and Pray Challenge 16: Naked Beams Challenge 17: Shark week Challenge 18: Grapes of Wrath Challenge 19: Electric sheep herder Challenge 20: Out of the frying pan Challenge 21: Frozen bats Challenge 22: Who you gonna call? In this second installment, we’re turning the spotlight on the Engineer class and its class mod visuals: Maintenance Worker, Tinkerer, and Demolitionist. These new looks aim to give each class mod a stronger visual identity, so whether you’re patching up your turrets, optimizing gadgets, or blowing things sky-high, your equipment will look the part. Like with all class mod skins in 1.0, these are automatically unlocked when you acquire the class. We’ll continue rolling out more of these visual updates for each class, so stay tuned. Once we’ve revealed them all, we’ll shift gears and start digging into the bigger gameplay changes coming with 1.0. This is just the beginning. It is universally agreed that the most important tool for a Maintenance Worker is not a wrench or a screwdriver - it is a hat. What it lacks in pure utility, it makes up for in covering up his bald spot. The tinted safety glasses make the dark caves of Hoxxes even dimmer, but the shoulder-mounted flashlight compensates for this, effectively cancelling each other out. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/1473ed898facc66875952717db22952477572501.gif The Tinkerer has opted for a company issued welding mask that unfortunately does not cover his majestic blonde beard. We can only pray that welding sparks decide to fly around it out of respect. The coils and tubes on his shoulders are in fact epaulettes awarded for distinguished engineering service. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/7898bdb623960ce0ed820f07f52e6b4632ab41d5.gif Finally, we have the Demolitionist. He’s all about safety first, which is why his outfit looks like he is emerging from a child car seat. The baseball batting helmet has built-in noise-cancellation which effectively blocks out noisy explosions and encouraging comments from management. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/15b77fce8eab54e9a4d75abb718ae68f0f333853.gif The skins are still WIP and may change a bit before launch. In the next post (coming next week or the week after) we’ll take a look at the new Gunner class mod skins. Many other features of the 1.0 update are still kept under wraps. We will reveal them in the coming months once we are ready to share a more detailed look at them. Rock and Stone!Class Mod Skins - Part 1: ScoutMay 15, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHello Miners, This steam post marks the beginning of a new series where we’ll be sharing sneak peeks at what’s coming in the 1.0 release of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. Over the next few weeks, expect a steady stream of bite-sized Steam posts, each one diving into the visual upgrades we’ve been cooking up for class mods. Once we’ve showcased the new skins, we’ll shift focus to some of the bigger gameplay changes. There’s a lot to talk about, and we’re just getting started. We’ve long wanted to give class mods more visual identity, so you can instantly tell whether you're rocking a Recon Scout or lining up headshots as a Sharpshooter Scout. With 1.0, we’re making that a reality. The skins are automatically unlocked when you acquire the class. Here he is: The Classic Scout as you know and love him with his shoulder-mounted flashlight, double-antenna headset for primo reception, and of course, an early prototype of some Smart Glasses so he can POV record himself running away. Nothing new here - it’s a classic for a reason. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/7d8a271b6c6b8f3a8938d07892b6a4a1a5b48c22.gif The Recon Scout spent his Employee of the Month bonus points on a leather 5-panel cap with red racing stripes to match his beard. Extra bulky shoulder pads allow him to attach two scanners for improved uh… reconnaissance. If you think they look like overpriced gaming routers, did you consider that perhaps those routers are inspired by the Recon Scout’s shoulder-mounted scanners? I bet you didn’t. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/15039478859b5d4ce24e6ca31601ed5dc06fe998.gif This one was a no-brainer: If you want to be a sharpshooter, you have to have the tactical goggles on. They got more zoom than a border collie, the yellow tint that you need to disassociate from reality, and an extra optical in the middle just in case. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/d59a3330e60558f46632993689f15a575ed8f04f.gif The skins are still WIP and may change a bit before launch. Next week, we’ll take a look at the new Engineer class mod skins: Maintenance Worker, Tinkerer and Demolitionist. Stay tuned! With the reveal of class mod skins, we are updating the roadmap to 1.0. The rest of the headline features of the update are kept tightly under wraps. We will reveal them in the coming months once we are ready to share a more detailed look at them. We announced the date at the Triple-i Initiative showcase. Watch the trailer below if you haven’t already (you should watch the whole show, it’s incredible). The last few seconds of the trailer tease one of the major features coming in the 1.0 update: Gear. What is it? How does it work? How do you get it? We’ll get into that soon. But here’s what you should know now: Gear is not just a minor tweak. It’s a brand-new system that will shake up the meta layer. And that’s just one piece of what’s coming. We’ll go deeper on Gear in its own post soon. There is a lot more to reveal. Over the next few months, we’ll dig into the rest of what 1.0 brings. New features, new systems, and a few surprises. It’s the biggest update we’ve ever made. By the time it lands, what you’re playing now will feel like… Early Access. More soon. Your response? Surprisingly positive. You asked smart questions, gave thoughtful feedback, and kept the discussion productive. To keep that momentum going, we opened a dedicated Discord channel for community questions. A lot of good ones came in, so we’re bringing some of the highlights here in a cleaned-up Q&A format. The answers come straight from Jacob, thour producer on Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. But first… Patch 4.2 is out now! This one turned into a proper meaty patch. A big balance pass, more overclocks, and one of the most requested bug fixes finally landed. Here are the highlights: Save system overhaul - crashes and power outages should no longer wipe your progress. We’ve implemented a new multi-file system with more fail-safes. Loot crates from end-of-level elites - extra rewards from finishing strong! Dozens of overclock buffs and new overclocks added - some of the drone overclocks have been buffed by biblical proportions. Some specialist Gunner love - minigun should be easier to aim, and his passive now scales with upgrades. Features End-of-level Elites now drop loot crates, the faster you kill them, the better the reward. New Anomaly: Company Man - Just stick to your job and you’ll be alright. Vanilla Hazard 3 is open for business Save system overhaul: New save system with rolling saves in 4 files. Save files are new kept in a \Users\YourUser\AppData\LocalLow\Funday Games\DRG Survivor\steam\YourSteamID\ subfolder Old saves should be automatically migrated to the new system. The old save file is not deleted.Fixes Fixed an issue where players could lose all their saved data if the computer lost power while playing Fixed an issue where the drop pod sometimes forced the player off the ramp when the timer hit 0 Fixed a black screen issue that could sometimes occur when the dwarf auto-entered the drop pod Fixed an issue where clicking the weapons during drop pod interaction, could get you soft-locked in the weapon details screen Fixed a black screen issue that could occur if you leveled up while in the drop pod Fixed an issue where the input system would sometimes fire a submit event twice when using a controller. We promised Update 05 in Q1, and we’re not going to hit that. Endless Mode and the big performance rewrite are postponed. Back in December, we set our sights on Endless Mode. It’s been your top request since launch, and we were excited to make it happen. But to pull it off, we had to rebuild the game’s guts using a new technical foundation called an Entity Component System, or ECS. This kind of rewrite changes how the game handles everything behind the scenes. It’s what would have made longer runs and better performance possible, especially on Steam Deck. We dug in deep. We made solid progress. But eventually, ECS started dragging us down. It locked up our programmers, slowed the rest of the team, and put our plans for 1.0 at risk. We had to choose between pushing forward or getting stuck. So we made the call. We’re setting ECS aside and getting back to building. Endless Mode isn’t gone forever. Just not first in line anymore. What’s coming next? Patch 4.2 is about 2 weeks out. It includes: New Overclocks Buffs and reworks for some of the weaker Overclocks and weapons End stage Elites drop loot crates based on your time to kill A new anomaly where mining is everything Fixes for major issues, including save file corruption and the Haz 5 achievement not unlocking Lots of balance changes and weapons tweaks After that, we go all-in on 1.0. We’re not ready to share the details yet, but we’ll share more soon, including the 1.0 release date. And when we do, you’ll see why we made this trade. We know we’ve been too quiet. That’s on us. You’ll be hearing more from us going forward. If you’ve got questions, hit us up. Discord (#what-happened-to-update-5), Steam comments, wherever you like to shout. We’re listening. Thanks for sticking with us. We’re not done digging yet, and 1.0 is going to be a proper rockbuster. — The Funday DwarvesOur anniversary Feb 14, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsHello Miners, Aaahhh February 14th. It’s that special time of year again where we celebrate our love… for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor! Can you believe it’s been a year since we launched the game? It’s been a hell of a ride, and we want to thank you for all the good times and for your patience with us. We know we’re not always as attentive as we should be, especially in periods where we’re busy at work, but that doesn’t mean we love you any less. Thanks so much for sticking with us - we truly can’t wait to share what’s next for DRG:S. Oh, you want a Valentine's gift? All right then, here you go, a sneak peek at Update 5. The price increase to $12.99 will take effect immediately after the Winter Sale ends. Necesse Bundle We’ve partnered up with the fine folks at Fair Games to make a bundle with their hit game Necesse. Fun fact: Funday Games and Fair Games are right across the street from each other. https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/48440/Roadmap Update - December 2024Dec 4, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello Survivors, Tis’ the season to update our roadmap and share some of our plans for Update 05. Last time we updated our roadmap, we mentioned how we are spending a bit longer on updates to make every update feel substantial while also future-proofing the game’s foundation with new tech. In Update 05 we are reaping some of the benefits of this strategy. In Update 05 we plan on adding one of the most requested features to Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor - Endless Mode! We have wanted to do it for a long while, and if you go back to previous roadmap revisions you will see it in the “Later™” section ever since we released the game in Early Access. The reason we haven’t done it already is because an Endless Mode is a resource hog. As runs become longer, your power level increases, mob density increases, SFX clutter increases, etc. In parallel with the development of new game features, we have spent the last few months rewriting the game with a new entity component system that greatly optimizes the game. It’s an optimization so substantial that we’re putting it on the roadmap as its own headline. It has allowed us to make Endless Mode without sacrificing performance, but it will also have other far-reaching effects. The game will run much smoother on lower-end PCs, it will run smoother on Steam Deck, and it opens the possibility for porting. The third bullet point on the roadmap is about Overclocks. In Update 05 we plan on filling in the remaining “missing” Overclocks, meaning every weapon will have at least three Balanced Overclocks and two Unstable Overclocks. We also plan on revamping some of the underwhelming Overclock choices. As always, we will start revealing more details in the weeks leading to the update which is on track for a release in Q1. If you enjoyed playing Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, consider nominating us for the Steam Awards. Steam makes us pick a category to feature in this post, and while we're obviously a shoo-in for all of them, we think "Best Game on Steam Deck" is where we have the best chances. We also wanted to give a shout-out to some excellent games we enjoyed this year and recommend that you try them or nominate them. For the Outstanding Visual Style Award, John, our Chad UX Designer, is nominating Songs of Silence. It has gorgeous, art nouveau style visuals that he thinks are fairly unique in the games industry. Remember kids, if it looks like elves made it, it's Art Nouveau. If it looks like dwarves made it, it's Art Deco. For the Labour of Love Award, our artist Allan is nominating Elden Ring, particularly for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. He says: "If you're too afraid to tell your significant other that you like it rough, just play Shadow of the Erdtree in front of them." Glad that worked for you, Allan! For the Better with Friends Award, we are nominating Helldivers 2 for being the second best bug-blasting-in-space game to come out this year. For the Most Innovative Gameplay Award, we are nominating Balatro - a game that came out just 6 days after DRG:S, and stole way too many hours of our free time. Remember voting ends December 4th, 10 AM Pacific (that's 7 PM where we're at).Patch 0.4.19dNov 13, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsFixed an issue where starting gold and nitra would not show up correctly when starting a Mutator Madness anomaly run Fixed an issue where the warden shield would not reduce status effect damage Fixed an issue where the Rotten Sugar during Mutator Madness dives, could break the game resulting in negative HP values, immortality and a Mission Control that just didn’t care to extract you. Management has been busy cutting through red tape and can finally open operations in a new biome: Azure Weald. This biome is as beautiful as it is deadly and features new enemy types, glowing crystal formations, and bouncy membranes. In addition, we’ve picked up strange readings from the caves that seem to alter the working conditions. We’re calling these phenomena “mutators” and you will experience them in one of the two new game modes. To motivate employees, Deep Rock Galactic has declassified your Employee Review Score. In addition, we’ve added new artifacts, milestones, achievements, and the usual splash of balance changes and bug fixes. Features New Biome: Azure Weald The pod is ready to take you to a beautiful new biome on Hoxxes IV - the Azure Weald! This is a surprisingly wet blue cave with luminescent plants, softly glowing crystals, and ferocious Glyphid hordes. There are some curiosities of the Azure Weald that you will find nowhere else. Glowing crystal formations will heal you (and Glyphids) when standing near them, and with a lack of Red Sugar in the biome, you will need them. There are also organic membranes on the ground that can launch you in the air when you walk on them - great for a quick getaway. The bugs in Azure Weald have a slightly different spawn behavior. Instead of a steady trickle of Glyphids and a few waves throughout the dive, you will have periods of almost calmness in the Azure Weald, but the waves are larger and more intense. The new Glyphids native to the biome are: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/5756c8f68cc87bf8cc66eeab6ae8f299172c39f8.png All-New Enemy: Glyphid Warden When stationary, the Glyphid Warden sets up a Mind-Link that makes all nearby Glyphids take much less damage. New Enemy Variant: Glyphid Mini Exploder These fast little buggers blow up just as well as their bigger brothers, though they seem to not be as effective at thinning out swarms. But they do come in larger packs. Fun! New Enemy Variant: Big Praetorian Bigger and stronger Praetorians with 2100 HP (our astrobiologist back at HQ wanted to call this one “Praetorian 1.5” but marketing went with “Big Praetorian” instead) System: Mutators Strange things are happening on Hoxxes and we’ve seen reports of mission conditions not acting as we’re used to. We’re calling these phenomena “Mutators” and they act like modifiers, either positive or negative, that you can encounter. With Update 4, mutators are available in the two new game modes ‘Vanguard Contracts’, ‘Lethal Operations’ and in the new ‘Mutator Madness’ Anomaly Dives. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43726543/77a71e34affc25d018e68e9cfb08c24d0894744d.png Game Mode: Vanguard Contracts A Vanguard Contract is a special mission that features a specific set of mutators and special run conditions where the biome, class mod, and starting weapon will be predetermined.
