Not only did it launch without an online mode, but it also suffered graphics equivalent to the PS3 version: not a good look for something marketed as a remaster. While the latter isn't going to change, Team Ninja did promise it would implement online functionality by June. After a recent beta, though, the studio has decided it needs more time. "Due to major issues found during the beta test, we will be postponing the release of the update," Team Ninja wrote. "We apologize for the last minute notification and regret deeply the trouble we have caused our Steam customers who were looking forward to the online functionality. We will update the website with a new release date as soon as it is set." Those in the beta are free to keep playing it, though the studio also offered instructions for players keen to opt out of it. It's hard to see a future for Dead or Alive on PC: this launch didn't go down especially well with PC gamers, and nor did we obey Team Ninja when they said not to mod nudes into the already underdressed series. Cheers, Polygon. As predictable as the sunrise, Dead or Alive 5 nude mods appearApr 7, 2015 - PC GamerBack in February, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Game Director Yohei Shimbori laid down the law. "We have to deal with mod issues from an IP holder perspective," he warned prospective modders. "We would like to ask PC users to play our game in a good moral and manner. Otherwise, we won't be able to release a title for PC again." The modding community, naturally, reacted exactly as you would expect: with respectful deference to his wishes. Just kidding! It actually took about a day, according to Kotaku, for the first DOA5 nude mods to turn up, like this selection from Lustful Illumination (which, in case it actually needs to be clarified, is very not safe for work): topless, bottomless, and fully nude, which includes what must be one mightily uncomfortable piece of string. The site currently only offers nude mods for three DOA5 characters—Marie Rose, Ayane, and Momiji—but I'd be surprised if more aren't on the way. At the time he put his foot down, it seemed that Shimbori was addressing nude mods specifically, but in a follow-up statement to Eurogamer in March, he and Producer Yosuke Hayashi said, not very helpfully, that it was about "our obligation to protect our characters, as developers, especially because mods created might take on a life of their own out in places we aren't aware of." But they never got around to mentioning what would be tolerated, and some Steam users are claiming that Tecmo is cracking down on more conventional mods providing post-processing effects and new or improved textures. Others, however, say that all the banned mods were actually nude mods; either way, right now nobody seems entirely sure what is and isn't allowed, and that confusion is irking the modding community. One user claims he created a mod to remove Ayane's makeup to make her appear more like she did in DOA2, but he's afraid to post it because he doesn't want to get the boot from Steam. The bottom line? The DOA5 modding scene might be a ball of confusion, but this much I know for sure: Telling modders not to mess with your game ensures that that's exactly what they'll do. (Though they surely would've done it either way.) Wacky, A Bit Wonky: Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round ReleasedMar 30, 2015 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunI admire how much Dead or Alive embraces its silliness. The fighting game series might be known for its terrifying unreal simulation of breasts, but that’s unfair to the many other oddities in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round : geishas fighting roughnecks, huge amounts of zany clothing and costumes, tiger maulings, a colossal Buddha statue coming alive to deck pugilists, and so on. DoA5LR came out on PC today, though bafflingly it’s launching without online multiplayer. That’s due to be patched in after about 3 months. That’s a bit too silly, even for me. … Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is missing features on PCMar 30, 2015 - PC GamerA real promotion "asset" for Dead or Alive 5 Last Round A couple of weeks ago, Andy reported on some worrying signs regarding the PC port of Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. The game is due out later today, and—based on Team Ninja's own documentation—it seems the concern is warranted. Perhaps the biggest omission is the game's online mode, which will be part of the PC version—just not for launch. "Currently the game only supports offline play," explains an official FAQ. "Online gameplay is planned to be added at a later date." Team Ninja's Steam specification page goes a step further, suggesting that online play could take up to three months. That page also categorises the game's graphical effects as "equivalent to PS3 version". Shadows, meanwhile, are equivalent to the PS4 version. How generous. The Soft Engine is also missing from the Steam specification list. That, if you don't know, is the engine designed to make skin look softer on PS4 and Xbox One. (Dead or Alive 5 is a very serious fighting game, don'cha know.) If all that wasn't enough, two stages—The Danger Zone and The Crimson—are also missing from the Steam version. Because reasons. Also absent: Steam achievements, cloud saving and, bizarrely, controller vibration. Finally, as pointed out by this Steam forum post, there's Dead or Alive 5 Last Round's manual. It points out that players with certain characters in their Steam profile name may encounter problems saving their data. Also, if a player's ID is changed, they may have problems saving or loading their data. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is designed to be the definitive edition of the boob-heavy pummel-'em-up. Based on the current evidence, the PC version is falling short of that mark. Ta, Eurogamer. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round drops Soft Engine and extra levels on the PCMar 17, 2015 - PC GamerDead or Alive fans are taking to NeoGAF to express concerns about the state of the upcoming Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, which will arrive on Steam at the end of the month. A NeoGAF user's translation of the Japanese site Gamecity states that the PC port of the game will not make use of the Soft Engine that powers the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions, yet it will also have more demanding system requirements than currently listed on Steam. To be fair, the Steam system requirements are very vague—an Intel Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and Windows 7 64-bit—but the Gamecity site indicates that a Core i7 2600 will actually be required to run the game at 1080p. The GeForce GTX 760, 660, or 750Ti are the recommended video cards, and according to IncGamers, the RAM requirement is now "more than 4GB." But while the requirements have gone up, capabilities appear to have gone down. The Soft Engine, which as Silconera explained last year, makes skin appear more natural, has been dropped, and the PC version will be stuck with PS3-style particle effects as well. The two extra stages added for the next-gen console releases have also been cut. On the upside, the game will support 4K resolution and PS4 shadow effects, but any lingering hope that online play will be ready in time for release or shortly thereafter has been snuffed: The post confirms that, as previously stated, it won't be added until roughly three months after launch.
