Days Gone’s upcoming survival arcade mode will introduce endless hordes and ‘exploding freakers’, and I’m beginning to think it might be the best way to play the gameApr 12, 2025 - PC GamerI was ambivalent about Days Gone when it shambled onto PC in 2021, though my issues were primarily with its clumsy storytelling rather than anything systemic. Whether you’re visiting Days Gone for the first time or jumping back on the Drifter bike, there’s plenty of content to explore and new things to discover. Introducing one of our most expansive new additions to Days Gone Broken Road DLC, Horde Assault – a survival arcade mode. Before we dive in, watch the gameplay trailer for the new mode below. What is Horde Assault mode? Horde Assault offers fresh and unexpected gameplay designed to challenge your skills as you try to achieve a high score, while surviving as long as possible against increased horde sizes and various other enemies, like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears, oh my! Fight your way through a brutal, ever-changing landscape where enemies escalate in difficulty the longer you survive. Horde Assault was built from the promise of “This World Comes For You,” showcasing the core gameplay of the Days Gone open world in a unique way. Horde Assault is your playground for a truly endless game mode, go show them Freakers who’s boss. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54429643931_5a0c9da4f7_o.png Begin Horde Assault by dropping into Cascade with only a sidearm weapon at your disposal. Fight your way through the initial assault of Freakers to reach your Drifter bike, a valuable tool to traverse the open region. Seek out Supply Boxes scattered around the map to obtain powerful weapons to greatly increase your chance at survival. With more than 20 available weapons to use, including a new flamethrower not offered in Story mode, finding a Supply Box could be life or death when encountering the next horde. What weapons drop from each Supply Box is random and will reset upon each new start. While you’re out there fighting for your life (literally) refill your resources and earn additional XP by completing Side Jobs. These mini objectives are critical for keeping you in the fight. Running out of ammo with up to 800 Freakers chasing you, is not ideal. We did say there are increased hordes… Of course, we couldn’t make it that easy for you. Should you make it to 30 minutes of survival time in any map, you will be treated to the Ultimate Horde. A never-ending horde fight in a relentless approach to hunt you down. We’ll stop explaining it any further and let you experience it firsthand. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54429842669_d4d3659e66_o.png Survive Move up in level to earn in-mode rewards with never-before-playable characters, new patch cosmetics, and unique Injectors on offer to greatly impact your gameplay experience. Speaking of Injectors, players of Days Gone will already be familiar with the benefits of Injectors from the main story. This idea carries over to Horde Assault, but now with a big uplift to drastically change gameplay in the form of modifiers. During your journey to Legendary Survivor, you can earn a total of 24 unique Injectors – 12 Positive and 12 Negative. Positive Injectors provide a positive boost to your score but increase ...Days Gone Broken Road DLC, Wishlist NowMar 13, 2025 - Community AnnouncementsDays Gone Broken Road DLC is available to Wishlist NOW! For months, alongside the rest of the fanbase for Valve's FPS, I was keeping a close eye on the backend of Steam, tracking every single update, tweak, and new data depot. The cynical part of me said it was all just nothing. The (admittedly much smaller) hopeful part of me wanted to believe. And lo and behold, after all that tinfoil-hat speculation, eventually, Counter-Strike 2 was confirmed - sometimes, the most optimistic theories are true. Days Gone 2 might never happen. The open-world survival game may be doomed to the annals of overlooked, underloved cult hits. But with The Game Awards about to start, some mysterious updates on Steam could - just could - point to a Days Gone remaster. Read the rest of the story... Days Gone is a funny game. It was clearly meant to be one of Sony's tentpole, single-player titles it used to be known for, even taking the last spot in an E3 showcase many moons ago. However, it seems like behind the scenes it ended up being a bit of a dud - the game's director claims it sold as well as Ghost of Tsushima, but management made it seem like a disappointment. Critically it did fine, mostly on the positive side, but it wasn't the glowing reception a lot of other first-party Sony titles get. Still, it did get a PC release, and there are some fans that want a sequel, but Bend Studio's community manager Kevin McAllister has had to put any speculation about a Days Gone 2 to bed. "I apologize to our Days Gone community for continuously getting fed false hope and poor information by people looking for likes," wrote McAllister. "It’s not fair to you all. We are currently working on a new IP, and when we have actual news to share it will come from our studio." McAllister is seemingly referencing a tweet from Days Gone's writer John Garvin, who recently shared that the original intention was for the game to spawn a trilogy. Those could-have-been, should-have-been hypothetical games that we wish had happened but sadly never did. I always wanted a sequel to Freedom Fighters, the criminally underplayed IO Interactive squad shooter from 2003, but the fates had other plans. Now, Days Gone 2, the presumptive sequel to Bend Studio's underloved zombie survival RPG, seems set to join the list of games that never came to pass. Read the rest of the story... Via Xitter, the original game’s creative director John Garvin has encouraged fans to "never say never" about a Days Gone 2, while reminding us that a full outline for the game had already been completed prior to his departure from developers Bend Studio in 2020. Even with the caveat of "I’m not holding my breath", Garvin’s take is an altogether more hopeful one that that of fellow Bend alumni and Days Gone game director Jeff Ross, who in May tweeXed a collage of popular PlayStation characters – sans his own post-apocalyptic motorcycling hero, Deacon St. John. "A lot of people still ask me if there will ever be a Days Gone sequel, so I submit this poster as evidence it will never happen", Ross wrote, along with an apparent pop at Sony Interactive execs (including Hermen Hulst, co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment) for never being "fans" of the game.
