This update introduces the Religion system. Adventurers can pledge their allegiance to one of several demigods and receive their special blessings. The update also gives players a sneak peek into the highly anticipated ‘Arena’ system. Please note that this first implementation of the Arena is an experimental version and meant only as a taste of what is to come. Many upcoming features, including an MMR system, an Arena Season, and an Arena Leaderboard will be released later this season. Currently we will be utilizing gear score to matchmake the Arenas. Please also note that the Arena will only be open during limited periods and access is limited to Legendary status accounts. During this experimental preview period, the settings and structure for the Arena may change drastically. The original platform link feature was removed due to complications and loopholes with the various storefront policies. We are currently working on an updated platform-link feature to allow the migration of legacy Blacksmith accounts to a mainstream platform of their choice. This feature will be a one-way platform link allowing specific Blacksmith accounts (created on Blacksmith before June 6, 2024) to migrate to either a Steam or Epic Games Store account. We ask for your patience as we roll out this feature in the very near future. Finally, we are proud to announce our first Twitch Drops campaign! The campaign starts on September 13th at 12:00 am PST and runs until September 20th at 11:30 pm PST. Please be sure to link your Twitch account through the Options Menu and hang out with Dark and Darker streamers to earn some cool new rewards. Of course that's hyperbole as there's plenty of worse things than that, but it does definitely suck. In Dark and Darker Season 4, however, the addition of a new feature means while it's still risky out there, there's a good chance you can save your loot - but only if you're fast enough. Early Access Hotfix #61Aug 22, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi Adventurers, This new update brings a few tweaks to the matchmaking system. The random matchmaking system will always fill empty team slots for High Roller adventures. The option to not fill empty slots will still be available for Normal dungeon adventures. We have also added a new inventory restriction when entering the dungeons. Adventurers will now only be able to fill their inventory bag space with utility and consumable items when starting a match. Weapons, armors, accessories, and instruments placed in the inventory bag are not allowed when entering the dungeons. A special exception is made for lanterns. We hope to prevent players trying to exploit the gearscore requirements for High Roller adventures and to also prevent adventurers accidentally bringing in their quest rewards. Thank you and see you in the dungeons! IRONMACE Changes: Fixed an issue where defense did not work if you were still blocking after using Shield Slam. Dark and Darker patch targets the RPG's janky new matchmaking systemAug 16, 2024 - PCGamesNWith extraction shooters threatening to take over the world, it's great to see that there are some twists on the formula, with both Dark and Darker and Dungeonborne providing fantasy, dungeon-crawling versions. While the former has been out for a year, it's still very much a work-in-progress and recently developer Ironmace has made some big changes to how matchmaking works. Those changes have had a rocky start to life so far, but a new patch promises to fix problems with the system. Read the rest of the story... RELATED LINKS: Dark and Darker is still doing well on Steam one month after launch Is Dark and Darker on Steam? Dark and Darker has plenty of players despite struggling Steam reviews Early Access Hotfix #60Aug 16, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi Adventurers, This update fixes the new matchmaking system and allows us to toggle off the base camp. Adventurers will now be placed directly into the dungeons at the start of an adventure instead of congregateing in the base camp. We have also adjusted several setting that we feel should lead to better quality matches, albiet at slightly longer queue times for adventurers with a gearscore of 25 or higher. We have also updated the random matchmaking system so that solo queue players will now have their matchmaking canceled when there are no remaining players or teams to match up with, instead of automatically placing them in a session at a disadvantage. This circumstance usually occurs to the lowest gearscore solo player remaining after the all other solo/duo players have been placed into a team. If you receive this message, we suggest re-queuing after increasing your gearscore. There are also situations where duo teams that use the random matchmaking system to play a trio match may still end up as a duo due to lack of remaining solo players to combine with. In this situation, we will attempt to create a session with all the remaining duo teams. We may adjust this logic in real-time in the future. We have been collecting good data with the new matchmaking system and will continue to add more tweaks to improve the overall experience. Thanks and see you in the dungeons! IRONMACE Changes: Fixed an issue that could cause frame drops when hitting. Fixed an issue where the chat UI might not pop up properly when the other party entered a chat message. Fixed an issue where the matching status might not be restored properly when matchmaking fails. Fixed an issue where the entry AP reduction was not applied properly when there was no basecamp. Fixed an issue where the Golden Felling Axe's movement speed penalty was -35 instead of -30. For testing purposes, we've made it so that matchmaking fails if no suitable teammates are found during random matchmaking. Early Access Hotfix #59Aug 14, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi, Adventurers. This update introduces the new matchmaking system. Please understand that this is still a work in progress, and we will continue to tweak and polish it to enable the best match quality without compromising wait times. When you click on the matchmaking button, you will no longer be placed into the pre-lobby base camp. Instead, you will remain in the main menu while we utilize the new matchmaking system to find you the best suitable match. We will do our best to create sessions with similar gear scores based on the highest member on the team. Please note that during off-peak time the range of the matches may vary substantially. We will be collecting data during this time to improve our matchmaking logic for the future. Please note that we will continue matching players with less than 25 gear score (Normal dungeons) in their own matching pool to help onboard newer players. Finally, we have added a quick match system that allows a non-full squad the ability match together with random teammates. We have added some protective measures to disincentivize intentional killing random teammates. The dungeon recovery system automatically returns any equipped items taken out of the dungeon by a teammate so intentional team killers cannot reap ill gotten gains. Players that are reported for ‘team-killing’ will lose karma and will not be able to enter the matching pool for a limited time. This time will exponentially increase each time they are reported for intentional team killing. We will be keeping a close eye on these new systems as we continue to improve the game and see you in the dungeons! We have also upgraded the inventory to make it feel snappier. The in-game quest log has been improved to dynamically update your status within the game. We will be experimenting with a minimum gear score for the High-Roller dungeons. We have also added a restriction to the HR dungeons requiring the size of the entering party to match the selected party queue size. With the addition of these restrictions, the ante has been removed for the HR dungeons. We plan to adjust these settings based on data and feedback. A throwback dungeon crawler that owes as much to classics like Wizardry, King's Field, Ultima Underworld, Eye of the Beholder, and Arx Fatalis, as it does modern takes on the genre like Darkest Dungeon or the Legend of Grimrock games, Dark and Darker vanished from Steam and spent much of last year embroiled in legal issues before finally returning to the platform last month. Since then, it's faced criticism from players upset with the difference between its paid and F2P versions, leading to mixed reviews. Still, despite these troubles, it's managed to maintain a healthy player base, continuing to foster an active community a month since its relaunch. Read the rest of the story... Early Access Hotfix #54-1Jun 24, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi Adventurers, This week’s hotfix comes a little early due to issues with the Adventurer Rank system. At the start of this season, we had decided we wanted to try and make the Leaderboards more “skill-based” and remove some of the more random aspects of the system, such as the management of your inventory with trinkets and found gear. We wanted to have adventurers focus more on actions within the dungeons such as killing monsters and interacting with dungeon elements. When we launched the leaderboards earlier this month, we accidentally launched with the system half implemented, only removing the found gear score. We saw that players were advancing more quickly than we intended and scrambled to remove the AP for treasure with the last hotfix. Based on player feedback, we quickly realized that forcing players to min-max every second and grind nonstop “perfect” runs diminished the thrill of the game. In light of this, we have decided to revert to the original system from the previous season where both found gear and treasure give AP. We believe the original system gives more control back to the adventurer on how they can accrue their AP. We have not given up on building a more skill centered leaderboard for the future. We plan on focusing our attention on developing such a leaderboard with the upcoming Arena system. We thank you for your patience and understanding with our recent changes to such an important system. Thank you and see you in the dungeons! We fixed issues with several spells not scaling properly with the attributes. We have made some minor balance changes to slightly improve the Ranger and Rogue’s effectiveness using certain builds against full plate without making a big impact against the squishier classes. We’ve also addressed some oversights with the AP system where the treasure score was not removed as previously promised, and a bug where PvP adventure points were not properly calculated. We are still working on the improved matchmaking system which we hope to roll out soon. In the meantime, we have decided to open up VoIP in the basecamp as a test for it’s upcoming removal and conversion to a more social area. Thanks and see you in the dungeons! We are happy to announce the introduction of the platform link system. This system allows players to transfer their progression from a previous platform to a new platform. This means that if you had previously purchased the game, you are no longer bound to a single platform and can play on the platform of your choice without the need to repurchase the game. Existing players can access the platform link by going to the 'Options' menu and selecting the ‘Platform’ option from the top menu. Please note that the new platform account must have no characters associated with it. If you already created a character you will need to delete all characters on the new platform and restart the client to initiate the platform link transfer process. Most importantly, the new platform account you are linking to must have no purchases associated with it. The platform link feature cannot combine accounts if you made separate purchases on both accounts. In this case, we recommend creating a brand-new “clean” account on the new platform to link your previous account. We have also considered concerns about possible pay to win advantages due to the discrepancy in access to the marketplace between Squire and Legendary status accounts. In response to these concerns, we have decided to experiment with giving Squire accounts very limited access to the marketplace. Squire accounts can become an ‘apprentice trader’ with the ability to only BUY items from the marketplace. Only Legendary status accounts retain the right to become full fledged traders with unrestricted access to the marketplace and the Trading Post. We have also decided to upgrade the exclusive ‘Shared Stash’ to a full-sized stash as a thank you to all our Legendary status accounts. We will continue to work on giving more value for all our Legendary adventurers in the future. Thank you once again for all your support!
