Just a quick update for everyone this time — we’ve now pushed live a small quality of life patch that sneaks in a few additional fixes for our Delicious Last Course expansion. Foremost among them, we’ve added in a feature that has been highly requested since the launch of DLC…the ability to swap back and forth between the new title screen and the original Cuphead title screen! This includes a change in the song that will play when you boot up the game, and is accessible from the “Visuals” section of the Options menu. We hope you have a swell time with this new update! Added ability to choose between DLC and Original title screens (including their respective songs) in the Options menu under "Visuals" (note: certain game conditions will temporarily override user selection). Fixed rare issue with Boatman dialogue being triggered after fast travelling. Added ability to undo wishes. Fixed localization issues. Fixed minor animation issues. Fixed minor audio issues. Improve your DLC…with Patch 1.3.3 !!Jul 19, 2022 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/29136746/d80d69e97e3b7a6607e9be4dd027476e6a757ee5.jpg Salutations folks!! It has been a little over 2 weeks since the launch of our Cuphead expansion The Delicious Last Course, and we come bearing the tastiest treat of them all…bug fixes!! In seriousness, we want to thank our wonderful Steam Community for the insightful comments and Community threads chronicling your early experiences with DLC. In addition to being humbled by your kind words, we’ve been keeping our ears to the ground and our eyes in the sky (quite the painful separation) to monitor reports of bugs and technical issues. The result is a delectable patch, fresh out of the oven for PC and Mac, which contains the fixes outlined below: Revised DLC completion % calculations to better reflect completed progress in the DLC. Fixed bug which caused DLC’s final boss to get locked into certain animations, preventing proper phase progression. Fixed bug which caused the Esther Winchester boss to get locked into certain animations, preventing proper phase progression. Fixed rare bug which caused the Sally Stageplay boss to get locked into certain animations, preventing proper phase progression. Fixed bug preventing boss title cards from rendering when using EU Spanish language. Adjusted “Hearty” achievement to unlock more consistently. Fixed bug causing Super Art II for Ms. Chalice and Cuphead/Mugman to function improperly after the DLC’s final boss phase 1-2 transition. Fixed other erroneous player states after DLC final boss phase 1-2 transition. Fixed bug causing Ms. Chalice to remain active in levels despite removing the Astral Cookie charm in post-death equip menu. Cuphead is a notoriously hard game, the difficulty kind of being the whole point of it. But, if you manage to learn the patterns across the entire game, it's pretty manageable, with the main speedrunning category having a world record of just over 28 minutes. And honestly, that sounds just a bit too easy, which led speedrunner EazySpeezy completing a run while climbing up a mountain. The setup for the run was honestly pretty simple: EazySpeezy and his crew duct taped a laptop to a backpack, which a friend then wore while EazySpeezy played the game. It is probably not the most ideal of speedrunning conditions, but that isn't exactly the point of the run. It doesn't give you any info in the description, and the only clue you get is from that weird detective ghost, who hints that it's linked with the climbing competition near the mountain and the graveyard. If you manage to solve the mystery, you'll unlock a secret boss and an extra-challenging game mode... We cannot wait for the wonderful Cuphead community on Steam to set sail for this new adventure, experience the story of brand new playable character Ms. Chalice, and take on some of the biggest and wildest boss battles we’ve ever created! In preparation for tomorrow, we have released a small but important update which contains some necessary code adjustments to allow the base game to function with the DLC on launch day. However, keen players will also notice a small but highly requested quality of life improvement — the ability to swap your weapon loadout from the “Retry” screen of a boss battle instead of having to back out to the map to do so! As we look back on the road to release, we can’t thank everyone enough for their kindness, patience, and continued support. Read more Tesla no longer allowing drivers to play video games after federal investigationDec 24, 2021 - VG247CNN reports that Tesla has opted to give up on allowing drivers to play video games while driving Tesla cars after a federal safety probe showed what should have been obvious from the start: Playing video games while driving is unsafe. Dubbed “Passenger Play”, the feature allowed passengers to interface with the touchscreen and play games while the car is in motion. And even though Tesla made it very clear that the feature was only to be used by passengers, drivers could still play games as well, even if the car is in motion. This prompted a federal investigation, which led to this latest move by Tesla to update all current cars to disable Passenger Play while the car is in motion. Tesla’s moves make sense in different ways, while falling into one major problem in the middle. The brand has always been youth-oriented and billed as the future of cars, so of course integrating video games is an appealing prospect. The obvious problem with that is the distraction factor. If a driver is playing a game while driving, accident potential increases dramatically. This even applies to if the front-seat passenger is playing a game. Tesla neutering the feature is the right call, but it should never have been implemented like it was for what should be obvious reasons. Adding a new island and playable character, The Delicious Last Course was previously due this year but nah, Studio MDHR say the whole pandemic has thrown them off course, and they’d rather do it right than rush it out. The Delicious Last Course - which sees Cuphead and Mugman joining forces with Ms. Chalice on a brand-new island for more classic-cartoon-inspired adventuring - was initially announced in June 2018, with a projected release of the following year. However, as July 2019 rolled around, Studio MDHR revealed it had made the decision to push The Delicious Last Course's launch into 2020 so the DLC would meet "the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for" and to ensure the developer could continue to "make things in a way that's healthy and sustainable for our team". (more…) Steam Points are better kept in your pocket than spent on Steam summer sale stickersJun 27, 2020 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun “It’ll be easy,” I thought to myself, when it was suggested someone do a nice, timely little post on the new-ish Steam Points system, and the various new goodies on offer through it. “Sure, no problem,” I said, when Matt refused to write it because he thought Steam Points were “pointless”, and I was the only other writer on the call with Graham. Matt was being negative, I figured, and I’d show him the error of his ways with my happy-go-lucky, anything-goes, good times attitude. I’d breeze onto the Steam store, have a browse of what points-purchasable things were on offer, and do a quickie piece highlighting some of the most chuckleworthy. Well, turns out Matt was right, and I was not. (more…) The modders creating accessibility modes for notoriously difficult gamesApr 1, 2020 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunWhether or not famously difficult games should have an optional easy mode has long been a point of contention. But many already do, albeit unofficially, thanks to modders taking things into their own hands. Take the fella who goes by “n00bplatformer”, for example. He recently created an “Assist Mode” for run ‘n’ gun action game Cuphead. It makes simple tweaks to some of the game’s systems, like granting players six hitpoints instead of the usual three, and boosting weapon damage an extra 50% so that boss battles don’t drag on so long.
