Cricket JRPG Monthly Update: May 2024 Edition!May 6, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHey all! Tax season is over, did you turn in all of your stuff? Got some feds on your doorstep? We can't help with that, but I have an update for you about Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game! ... That didn't help, did it? This month, we'll go over one of the more unique mechanics of Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game: The Notoriety Meter! What is the Notoriety Meter? {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38500927/ecdf55c6cca77ff6cfab7344e58f93f9ea772df6.png As you explore the world, you can mess with the NPCs, such as bumping into them and throwing objects at them. Doing so increases your Notoriety Meter. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38500927/8a3bcd6381c3e09b0a9ebb0e77b7035b29284ef1.png But what happens when you fill the meter? Enemies do more damage and have more health in battle Winning battles grants you more money, more XP, and better items {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38500927/cbefbad4ef5762dc85d2f981f4970b9b8cbc8ef1.gif The meter will decrease over time, so if you want the game to ease up, it's not difficult! Utilize the The Notoriety Meter to level up faster and reduce any grinding you might be doing! Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game is designed so that you shouldn't have to grind, but just in case! Maybe it'll be a speedrunning strategy? What inspired this idea? Uh, well we had this whole "messing with NPCs" thing, and wanted to roll that into the rest of the game's systems. That's really it! How are your family and friends? How's the thing you've been working on? Have you finally looked into that other thing? This month, we had a thought to go over one of the core, yet unique battle mechanics of Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game: The Tide Meter! What is the Tide Meter? As you fight, and land your hit timings, you will gain Tide Meter, which can be used to: Boost your attacks Enable team attacks Slow down time and make blocking / parrying enemy attacks easier {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38500927/cdd1e5a5201b323e5b4b0d25161f16b27adcd2e6.gif Boosted attacks do more damage, make status effects last longer, and make status effects more likely to take effect! You will wanna utilize Tide Meter to make battling in Cricket far easier, it's rough going out there! It can really get you out of a bind or force the enemy into skipping turns, and the like! Be careful though, enemies can use Tide Meter too! She also has various attacks that do a ton of damage to single enemies! Her default attack can even hit multiple enemies for a small amount of damage. Acacia has a bit of a mean streak, look out! Their duo and trio attacks with other team members make maximum use of their capabilities. They have pretty good defense too, so they can even be at the front of battle! They also have a robot dog: Dooders! He will be helpful in battle in various ways, such as being a weapon, or making status effects apply to entire teams! As useful as they are, they suffer from imposter syndrome and seek the validation of others through their work output, what's that about? Play when the game comes out and find out! Let's hope this update crashes into your feed like this spell from Twila! There's been a ton of developments since we've last talked, a lot to mention! We've been working on engine improvements (Cricket is built on Kumiho Engine 2.0), while implementing the rest of our cast list! Since it's been a while, let's do a quick reminder of what Cricket: Jae's Really Peculiar Game is: Cricket: Jae’s Really Peculiar Game is a heartfelt JRPG with exploration focused on interactions with the world and characters through childish antics, and battles focused on combining attacks with friends and calling out the opponent's tendencies. The hand drawn art and unique perspective will capture player’s eyes. The story of loss, loneliness, and friendship will capture player’s hearts. The battles will capture players attention by focusing on understanding enemy patterns, with pairing up with friends being critical to success. With that description out of the way, for today we'll show our mage, our damage dealer, Twila! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38500927/98686c8b86df6a36a87c67c83dbf752f4dd90a5e.png In battle, her function is to cast spells and deal massive damage, but has very low defense! Twila equips and uses Elemelons that she can switch around mid battle, casting a spell of the matching element enhances the damage, so plan accordingly!
