Chicken Invaders Universe

Game version 144Mar 15, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsThis is a minor maintenance release, without any significant player-facing changes. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-144/32393Game version 143Mar 1, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsOn the face of it, this is a minor maintenance release. Behind the scenes, however, this version includes preliminary groundwork for the (tentatively-named) “Galactic Entertainment Network” (GEN), a way to collect and organize recordings of the “best” missions from each day, compile them in a “highlight reel” video, and broadcast them across the galaxy (well, on YouTube at least). Details have not been finalized yet (e.g., which missions will be eligible for recording, the criteria for “best”, the number and frequency of video postings, any rewards, etc.). The intention is to be able to eventually watch some fun and entertaining mission snapshots (e.g., “epic” waves, skillful dodging, near-death experiences) and side-by-side comparisons of certain competitive missions (e.g., quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of Galactic Cup). Another small but important change is that “Key Rush” missions are now considered "completed” even if they are surrendered/lost (so that 100% completion remains possible). To support this change, all Key Rush mission histories that were either lost or surrendered have been deleted in v.143.2 so that they can now be flown again. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-143/32241Game version 142Jan 27, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsThis update removes “The Next Wave” episode from CIU. It might return (together with the rest of the episodes) at some point in the future. In the meantime, the CI2 “Mother-Hen Ship” boss has been added to regular Invasion and Boss Rush missions. This means that boss encounters in existing missions (e.g., your favourites) have potentially changed. “Virtual Joystick” has been added to touchscreen control menu. Due to this change, all menu options have unavoidably been reset, so please take the time to customize them again to your liking. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-142/31929Game version 141Dec 20, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThis update replaces the “Revenge of the Yolk” episode with the full “The Next Wave” episode in CIU, directly playable from your Profile screen. This is a temporary and experimental feature, so enjoy it while you can, and report bugs here. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-141/31550Game version 140Nov 25, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThis update replaces the “Ultimate Omelette” episode with the full “Revenge of the Yolk” episode in CIU, directly playable from your Profile screen. This is a temporary and experimental feature, so enjoy it while you can, and report bugs here. Also, Christmas content has been added to mobile versions of the game. It will be automatically activated about 3 weeks before Christmas, or you can manually enable it now through Options → Seasonal Content. More details about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-140/31249Game version 139Oct 21, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThis update replaces the “Cluck of the Dark Side” episode with the full “Ultimate Omelette” episode in CIU, directly playable from your Profile screen. This is a temporary and experimental feature, so enjoy it while you can, and report bugs here. Also, Halloween content has been added to mobile versions of the game. This is also temporary due to size restrictions and will be eventually replaced with Thanksgiving content in the next update. More details about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-139/30800Game version 138Sep 17, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsYet more increased download size! This update adds the full “Cluck of the Dark Side” episode to CIU, directly playable from your Profile screen. This is a temporary and experimental feature, so enjoy it while you can, and report bugs here. Also, additional seasonal theming changes and a slew of other little improvements – check the full changelog for details. More details about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-138/30367Game version 137Aug 1, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsA lot of internal changes in this update, but also a couple of player-facing ones. PC only (not smartphones): You might notice that the download size is significantly larger than normal. This is because starting with this version, all seasonal content (Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving) is bundled in. There is a button labelled “Seasonal Content” in the Options menu that will allow you to switch between seasonal editions on the fly. “Automatic” means that the game will use the current date to decide which seasonal edition to use (if any). Other buttons force a particular seasonal edition at all times. Note that, due to a technical restriction, this setting is reset every time the game is updated. More details about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-137/29728Game version 136Jul 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsA new boss! This update certainly took a while, but the new boss Burgermeister™ 3000 boss presented several design challenges and took a lot longer than expected. In terms of implementation, it’s the most complex boss to date, requiring some never-before-seen mesh deformations and several new special effects. And of course copious tweaking until the fight is fun and manageable. But be warned – this is not meant to be an easy boss! The addition of this boss to the wave pool will cause the layout of certain missions to be shuffled around. To keep things fair, any knockout matches for today have been reset and you will need to fly your knockout match again (as it turns out, this only affects a single player). There was a server rollback at the beginning of May that caused some player progress to be lost. The affected players have been reimbursed. More details here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-135/28289/115 More details about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-136/29220Game version 135May 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsIt certainly has been quite an adventure, but the Android version has been officially released! Well, it’s still in the “open testing” (or “Early Access”) phase, but it will be moved to “production” within the next few days. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.betacomsa.CIU.ia 5 Sadly, Google Play only supports 64-bit apps and will flatly reject 32-bit code, so you may find that your device can’t install the game. This includes some devices which have 64-bit hardware but have a 32-bit OS installed (this can happen if you have a low- or medium-tier device with less than 4GB of RAM). Oh, and yet more anti-cheat measures. Because cheaters will cheat. An update for iOS has also been pushed to Apple’s App Store. It’s unclear how long you have to wait until it’s available for download world-wide. Report your experiences here. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-135/28289Game version 134Mar 27, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsEaster content! But really, this is otherwise a very minor update necessitated by some technical changes in the iOS version. Speaking of the iOS version, the first official build will be submitted to Apple later today. If everything goes well, it should be approved within the next few days! More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-134/27832Game version 133Mar 20, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThis is a minor update (with some anti-cheat improvements – that’s an unavoidable fact of life, of course). The game will now enter feature freeze in anticipation of the iOS release, which means no more updates until the iOS version has been released and any related teething problems have been solved. See you on the other side! More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-133/27719Game version 132Mar 8, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsYet more anti-cheat. Enough said. Note: Due to a serious issue in v.131, it has now been superseded by v.132 More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-132/27473Game version 130Feb 27, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsMore anti-Cheat. Cheating. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. More cheaters, more countermeasures, more days of work wasted, more delays for the iOS and Android versions of the game and for further productive development. Perhaps surprisingly, the anti-cheat system is slightly more lenient now and works under a “three strikes” model, with progressively longer periods of banning each time you cheat. However, the official policy is still that cheating once gets you permanently banned, and it may be applied to exceptional cases (for example: cheats that cause additional maintenance effort on my part, destructive cheats that can also affect other players, or simply me getting up on the wrong side of the bed that particular morning). Also, some measures are now taken against exploits and wave farmers. There are two aspects to this: The “Unoriginality Penalty” rules are now slightly different, and the penalty is now applied to all of score, keys, and food gained during a mission. Missions that have been played in an exploitative way can now be disqualified. The exact rules are not made public, both as a matter of policy but also as a matter of practicality (as they are always changing, with new rules being added or tweaked as the need arises). It is important to note, though, that cheating and exploitative play are two different things. Sure, some of your flown missions might be ignored, but exploitative play will not get you banned. Amazingly, there was enough time to cram two gameplay-related changes in this update: reworks for the Laser Cannon and the Accumulator booster. Check the changelog for details. Sigh. Well, that’s another 10 days of work wasted trying to stop cheaters, while productive development is on hold. :warning: The anti-cheat system is now in “strict” mode. The new policy (which recently came info force) is stated here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/exploit-cheating-policy/26495 Soundtrack. Don’t forget that the Chicken Invaders Soundtrack will be released tomorrow. Check out https://store.steampowered.com/app/2248460/Chicken_Invaders_Soundtrack/ More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-129/27077Game version 128Feb 4, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsMAIN CHANGES Anti-Cheat. There are hardly any player-facing changes in this update. Instead, ‘proper’ development has been suspended – I’ve instead spent the last two weeks improving the anti-cheating measures in the game. It was sadly not productive work, but it was (equally sadly) necessary in order to stop certain cheaters from ruining the competitive aspect of the game for everyone. :warning: The anti-cheat system is now a lot stricter. You will be banned if you cheat. You will be banned if you use cheating tools (whether you actually cheat or not). You will be banned if you think about cheating. You will be banned if you allow yourself to consider thinking about cheating. You will be banned if your brother cheats, if your best friend cheats, if your cat cheats, if your next-door neighbour cheats, if your 3rd grade classmate who moved across the country and you lost touch and you’re now wondering where he is and how he’s doing cheats. (*) The new policy (which recently came info force) is stated here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/exploit-cheating-policy/26495 . * Some of these may not actually be true. Soundtrack. The Chicken Invaders Soundtrack is almost ready. There is already a “coming soon” Steam page here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2248460/Chicken_Invaders_Soundtrack . It should be released on or shortly after February 16th. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-128/26852Game version 127Jan 22, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsCredits! If you have helped the game anytime in the last four years, either by submitting ideas, reported bugs, or performed translations, then you are included in the game credits (accessible on the main menu). The credits list will be updated regularly with new contributors, or changed callsigns of existing contributors (there is a delay of at least two versions for any changes to propagate to the credits, so please be patient). Cheating. Although cheating has always been officially disallowed, during Early Access there was some leniency towards cheaters (they would be kicked out, but not banned). Recently, however, the increase in number of players attempting to cheat, as well as the unsophisticated, crude approach of the cheats (which result in many crashes, corruptions, and general instability), have necessitated a change in the cheating policy. The new policy is stated here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/exploit-cheating-policy/26495 Otherwise this is a minor maintenance update. Enjoy! More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/ciu-version-127-1/26515Game version 126: End of Early AccessDec 15, 2022 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39760645/a032dc028f3f858953639afb3d0f4cbbc66017ba.png MAIN CHANGES END OF EARLY ACCESS! Unbelievable. And it only took four years and 126 versions. Looking back at version 1, it’s hard to believe that this is still the same game at its core. Everything is familiar, yet everything has changed. Let’s take a whirlwind tour of these past four years. Please keep your hands, arms, legs and feet inside the ride at all times, and remain seated in the ride until it comes to a complete stop and you are instructed to exit. Thank you. But before we even get started, it must be underlined that the game as it stands today is almost exclusively the product of the player community. It has been your feedback, your ideas, and your bug reports that have shaped the game into the flawless masterpiece incomparably superior experience that it is today. Thank you to everyone who has ever contributed in any way – this is your game. Numbers don’t lie: 1148 idea medals and 812 bug medals awarded (so far) must certainly count for something. And that’s not even taking into account the years’ worth of ideas (565 currently) already in the to-do list, which are waiting for their chance to be realized one day. So, here we go: Remastered content: A lot of content from the previous episodes (CI2, CI3, CI4, and CI5) has been reworked, remastered, and re-designed, and incorporated into CIU. Waves: CIU currently has 261 unique waves (not including variations), 104 of which are new. The overwhelming majority of these waves are the result of the incessant creative output of the CIU community of players, and the game is much better for it. Well done, players! Weapons: Although new weapons have of course been added (Absolver Beam, Clucker Bombs), the significant thing is that the main weapon roster has been re-designed and re-balanced from the ground up. This is also the result of a massive community effort and a lot of (presumably) sleepless nights tweaking, un-tweaking, and re-tweaking weapon characteristics. To support and facilitate this effort, weapon data was made externally controllable through an Excel file. Spacecraft: New families of spacecraft have been added (Heavy bombers, Space Supremacy fighters) to enable each player to find their ideal style of play. Boosters provide an extra level of firepower customization. Mission types: Mission types from previous episodes have been added (Comet Chase, Supernova, Feather Fields, Meteor Storm), but also brand new ones (Boss Rush, Squawk Block, Key Rush, Ironman, Double Team, Budget Constraint, Pot Luck). Enemies: Certain enemies from previous episodes have been added (Balloon Chicken) , as well as a host of new enemies with unique mechanics (Toxic, Berserk, Chiller, Phoenix, Slob, Alchemist, Coward, Assassin, Fester) Bosses: The bigger they are, the louder they cluck. New bosses include Bossa Nova, Henlley's Comet, Magnetic Manipulator, Master/Crazy Squawker, Feather Brain, Thundercluck, Dr. Beaker, and Egg Cannon C...Early Access version 125Dec 9, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsChristmas Edition! 'Tis the season to be jolly! This update has been released earlier than planned in light of recent abusive behaviour by certain players. To this end, automatic countermeasures are now in place and you may also report inappropriate player behaviour directly from the game itself. Anyone can report anyone else, but to prevent the system from being abused (sigh), there is an internal “reputation” algorithm that decides how important each report is. The details of this algorithm will not be made public, but suffice it to say that: If you are a player of low reputation, your reports will not have any effect, especially if you are reporting high-reputation players. If you abuse the reporting system by making malicious, deceptive, or inappropriate reports, you will lower your own reputation and your own account may be blocked or deleted. The intention is to make this system fully automated after an initial training and calibration phase. In the meantime, all reports are manually reviewed and bans are individually approved. In all likelihood, this will be the last major update before Early Access ends on the game’s 4th anniversary (since version 1, which was released December 15th 2018). This is what will change after Early Access: The startup Early Access nag screen will be removed from the game. New accounts will no longer receive the “Early Access” medal. That’s about it. There really won’t be any more differences than that. Development will continue as usual. The immediate priority over the next two months is to release the iOS version, followed by the Android version. While this is underway, only minor additions and bugs will be fixed on the stand-alone / Steam branch. Party like it’s 2002! is still the default in v.125, but it can be disabled through the main menu (you must restart the game to enable it again). As a reminder, this mode simulates an (approximately) authentic 2002 experience: graphics have been reduced in color and resolution, music has been replaced with era-appropriate tracks, and certain special effects have been disabled. More information about this update can be found here: https://forum.chickeninvaders.com/t/early-access-version-125/25540
