Chester 1.8Dec 11, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! To celebrate the announcement of Chester's sequel game Chester: Into The Light, I got to work on a total remaster of Chester! Chester 1.8 is loaded with tons of changes, so let's dive right in. When I made Chester in late 2020, I was coming off of my first game DOGMAN. I had learned a lot about programming, and was pushing myself to learn new things daily. But unfortunately, I was lacking heavily in level design skills. The previous versions of Chester reflect that shortcoming. You walked around in a big empty house with grey walls and a few chairs. It couldn't get more boring than that. I also had no clue how to optimize a game, which was reflected in my favorite review of the game: "Scary game. It burns your CPU if you don't finish it quick enough.". So now, after another year of learning, I felt that I owed it to you all to remaster Chester, and make the changes needed to have a fun time. Here's a total list of changes: - New Main Menu Design - New How To Play Description - Game-wide Font update - Huge Asset Overhaul - House Redesign - Minor sound Changes and Upgrades - Improved visibility due to reduced darkness in the play areas. - Added 3 Collectibles - Removed Good/Bad Ending - Game-Wide Lighting Overhaul - Jumpscare Overhaul - Removed Level Intro Widgets, and Made Them Spawn In The World With The Player. - New Opening Scene Layout - Color Changes and Small Gameplay Adjustments To The Closet Level - Changes To Game Ending - Massive Performance Optimization By Asset Reduction, Light Baking, Smart LODs, and Compressed Packagaing. - New Store Page Assets - Game Size Reduced By Approximately 70% - Tons Of QOL Changes I Won't List Here I hope you all enjoy Chester 1.8! Thank you so much for believing in me, and enabling me to continue making games. I'm thrilled to bring you all a sequel to Chester. It's unlike anything I've ever made before, and I'm confident you guys will love it. - Daniel, Developer Of ChesterChester: Into The Light Is Available To Wishlist Now!Dec 5, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsChester: Into The Light is a a full length story driven horror game about fear, and prison of the mind many of us struggle to escape from. This game will be structured very differently from the last, and will include a story that builds upon the previous game. Featuring multiple levels, new characters, new gameplay, and of course, the terror you all loved from Chester, I'm confident that this is my best project yet. This project has been underway since March 2022, and I plan to take as much time as needed to make sure you guys get the best game I can make. More details will follow in the coming months. Thank you all for your support, I wouldn't be making games without you. - DanielChester 1.7May 4, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone. Tonight Chester 1.7 releases and brings with it some small bug fixes, and the option to adjust brightness. Brightness has been a big complaint recently, and I've struggled to implement this feature properly. Programming wise it is simple, but gameplay wise, I have to be very careful. Chester heavily relies on darkness, so mitigating that aspect of the game isn't a good idea. However, I understand that not everyone has the same brightness settings on their monitor as I do, and that many of you are struggling to see where you're going. This is why I've added the option to adjust brightness. I've also fixed an issue that would cause a duplicate widget creation and sound spawn to happen at the front door scene. Thank you guys so much for playing. If you have any requests, or questions, please reach out to me. My steam username is: DanWithAPan. If you have any complaints, please reach out to me before leaving feedback. Most complaints can be addressed and fixed same day. Respectfully, Daniel, Developer of ChesterChester 1.6Mar 30, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone! Tonight Chester 1.6 launches, and it brings some QOL and small content changes. Let's dive right in! First off, lets look at QOL changes. - Added a prompt at the bottom of the pause screen to alert players that their progress will not be saved. - Fixed an issue causing the player to get jumpscared in the backyard, even while the game is paused. - Changed the foliage used in the house's front yard. This effort was made to help the game's performance. The previous foliage actors caused a fair amount of frame drop. - The sound played when the player finds a key has had it's volume reduced. The backyard has multiple loud sounds by design, but this one was a little too loud and a little too long. Next, the final closet room has had a feature added that was directly suggested by two players I have been in contact with. - A ringing telephone has been added to the final closet room. When the player answers the phone, they will be met with a helpful suprise. I will continue looking at performance updates and make changes wherever I can. Thank you for your patience, and support. You all are greatly appreciated! If something in the game is irritating you, or you feel it is not a good design choice, please reach out to me before leaving feedback. Most fixes or changes can be implemented same day. Communication is the best way for your input to be heard and acted upon. Today Chester 1.5 launches and brings some more QOL changes based on your feedback. Lets dive right in. First off, some minor changes have been made to a few areas areas around the game. The first being the hallway sequence. To avoid confusion on where to hide, the lamp tables have been moved further up the hallway. Next, in the closet maze, the maze's exit is now marked with a red star. An additional silhouette monster has been added to the final room to close off a potential exploit. Additional lamps have been added to the area as well to help light up the area somewhat. Finally, I've added updated instructions for the player as they're entering new areas. For example: When the player enters the backyard, the old instructions simply said to find the 3 keys, and close your eyes if you heard breathing. The updated instructions state to find 3 keys, close your eyes if you hear breathing, and keep them shut until the breathing stops, and then return to the door once you have all 3 keys. I hope this helps with any confusion the player may have. Bug fix - Fixed a bug that would cause the player to get the bad ending indefinitely if the game was not restarted after getting a bad ending. Finally, to reiterate my previous patch notes: As programmer of this game, I am committed to molding this game into it's best version possible. An early flurry of negative feedback has been harmful to this game, so I have a humble request for you before you leave feedback. Add me on steam, reach out to me, and I'll respond the same day. My steam username is DanWithAPan Most fixes and updates can be launched same day, and the issues you face can be resolved. Me and Joshua are grateful for all of you, and look forward to improving Chester, and continuing the story. Respectfully, Daniel, Developer of ChesterChester 1.4Mar 19, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone. Today Chester 1.4 launches and brings some QOL changes with it. Lets dive right in. First off, a player who read my last patch notes is to thank for this update. He reached out to me with phenomenal requests, and as promised, I have acted upon them to bring you Chester 1.4 Thank you Luli, you are appreciated. The first change made was made to the Hunting Room. If the player dies in the hunting room, they will be teleported back to the entrance of the Hunting Room to try again. The player will not progress in the game until the hunting room has been completed. Next up, in the final Closet level, the player will not get the bad ending immediately upon death, rather the level will restart and the player given another chance. The player can only get the good ending by beating Chester without dying. The intention of this update is to allow players chances to practice on certain areas they struggle with. Chester 1.3Mar 18, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone. Tonight Chester 1.3 is launched, and some minor changes have been made. Lets hop right in. First off, the opening screen has been changed to help players understand how to get the good ending of the game. Second, the More button on the main menu has been changed to "How To Play." This button will give a quick overview and give clarification on the good/bad ending mechanic. Third, changes have been made to the backyard. If the player fails that level, the game will restart it for them and the player cannot progress until all keys are found. Finally, a few bug fixes have gone out. - The player can no longer move while in the opening cutscene. - The player cannot open the music box room's door. - Fixed minor collision issues. Respectfully, - Daniel & Joshua, developer and modeler of ChesterChester 1.2Mar 14, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone. Chester 1.2 brings some QOL changes to the game. Lets dive right in. First off, the hunting room has been given more cover and hiding places for the player to hide from the monster. The monster's ai has also been changed, and can no longer detect the player by proximity. Next up, the game will no longer restart when the player dies. Instead, the game will continue, and the player will be able to play the whole game out. However, the player will always get the bad ending unless they can avoid dying for the entire playthrough. Thanks for playing Chester, I look forward to your feedback. - Daniel, developer of ChesterChester Release DelayMar 5, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone. Thanks for you interest in Chester. The review process has been bumpy for this game, and unfortunately it's hit another roadblock. A certain design aspect of the game (A donation link for players who enjoyed the game) caused Chester to fail the review, and this aspect must be removed entirely. So here's what to expect. Chester Is Not Canceled While there will be a short delay, Chester will release better than ever. I'm working hard to get Chester out as soon as possible. The goal is before the end of March. Chester Will Not Be Able To Launch As A Free Title Chester is now planned to release for $2.99 USD. My goal for Chester was to make a game that people could play for free, and give the player the option to donate to us if they felt that we had earned it. I feel that this model is best for players, as I understand not everyone can afford a new game all the time, and it also removes the risk factor of buying a new game. I unfortunately will be forced to make Chester launch as a paid title due to the required removal of the donation link. However, Chester will be receiving more content and as a result, extended play time to compensate for this unfortunate situation. More Content Is Being Added New areas and challenges are being added. I want to make sure the player feels that their purchase was worth the price, and a fair deal. Despite this unfortunate news, I'm really pleased with the additions I've already made, and can't wait to release the final version to you all. Thank you for your support, you all are very appreciated. -Daniel, developer of Chester
