Changelog: http://steamcommunity.com/app/420060/discussions/0/154641879453758294/Watercolour platform-puzzler Candle out nowNov 13, 2016 - PC GamerCandle seems like a lovely and unusual thing: a platformy, puzzley adventure game featuring beautiful watercolour art, and a setting reminiscent of South American jungles and architecture. Andy noticed it a month ago, but now Candle is alight, which is to say it's out now on GOG, Humble and Steam. Here's an adorable gif taken from a Steam news post to celebrate: "Candle is an adventure with challenging puzzles", so says the Steam page. "Play as Teku, a young novice on a dangerous journey to rescue his tribe's shaman from the evil tribe of the Wakcha. But the way is littered with sinister traps and difficult obstacles. To master these challenges, you need to have keen eyes and a good sense for your environment, or your next step may be your last". Teku's left hand is a candle, handily enough, so expect that to come into play during those apparently tricky puzzles. Now, let's end this news post in the customary way: with a trailer. This time, a launch trailer. (Cor, what a pretty game.) Candle begins to shineNov 11, 2016 - Community Announcementshttp://i.giphy.com/3o6ZsSzEjUQU4ybzG0.gif Okay people, this is it! Candle is finally released. It seemed like this day might never come, but it is here at long last. We wanted to thank all of you for your support and for your patience. We know that this development has stretched a lot more than we expected, but it has all been so we could be sure that the game’s final quality was perfect and lived up to your expectations. In a few hours you’ll be getting the game and you will be able to experience the whole game. We really hope you like the end result, we’ve put our love into it. Now, onto the release info for Kickstarter Backers: We will start sending you your copy (or copies!) of the game in a few hours. We were going to partner with the Humble Bundle guys for this one, so you would be getting a Humble link. In it, you would have been able to choose your desired version of the game (Steam, GOG or fully DRM-Free, for PC, Mac or Linux), so everyone could get the version that best fits your needs. But, unfortunately, there was some technical difficulty and you wouldn't be getting those until next week, and so in Daedalic and Teku Studios thought that it would be incredibly disrespectful to you guys. What we are going to do is to send you all a Steam key and, for those who want a GOG key instead, just reply to that mail asking us for it and we'll switch you activation to GOG. Also, that’s not it! We will be sending all the digital tiers to you too :) so for those of you who pledged for the digital versions of the artbook, the OST, etc., you will get them with your Humble link. As for all the physical goodies, we are finishing everything as we speak and we’ll start sending them to you next week, so you should be getting them everywhere before 2016 ends. Final Words As we said, we thank all of you for your continous support and for your huge patience. We’ve never faced a challenge like Candle before, but we had to choose between cutting the game, reducing its scale and launching it earlier, or keep our desires and ambitions and go for a longer development. We had a big idea of what Candle could and should be, and we felt that this was the time to fight for its full potential. But it took a great deal of time and sacrifices, and so we hope that the final result lives up to your expectations :) Thanks a lot for backing Candle, thanks a lot for your kind words during these past years, and thanks a lot for your patience. But thanks to you, the wait is finally over. Cheers!Candle begins to shineNov 11, 2016 - Community Announcementshttp://i.giphy.com/3o6ZsSzEjUQU4ybzG0.gif Okay people, this is it! Cheers!Daedalic's new adventure Candle features "demanding" puzzles and gorgeous watercolor graphicsOct 13, 2016 - PC GamerDaedalic Entertainment has a new puzzle-adventure game called Candle that's set for release in November. Developed by Teku Studios, it features a hand-painted visual style that flows from frame to frame, complete with imperfections that give the graphics a "special vibrance," and puzzles that the developer promises won't be easy to solve. Candle is about a young man named Teku on a quest to rescue his tribe's shaman from the clutches of the wicked Wakcha Clan. He is literally the last light of hope: His left hand is a candle that can drive away enemies or light up the darkest places. "But the way is littered with sinister traps and difficult obstacles," Teku (the studio, not the guy) warned. "To master these challenges, you need to have keen eyes and a good sense for your environment, or your next step may be your last." Daedalic hasn't had much to say about the game so far, but there's a real focus on the high degree of difficulty. The game's puzzles are described at various points as "sophisticated," "challenging," and "demanding," and there's no indication that players who prefer an easier journey will find what they're looking for here. I think that sounds very interesting: I'm no fan of impenetrable "adventure game logic" but Candle's puzzles sound more akin to those of, say, The Witness: Pay attention, keep your wits about you, and all will be well. It may not work out that way, of course, but it's intriguing enough that I'll be keeping my eye on it. Candle will be out on November 11. The Adventure Of Creating An AdventureJul 1, 2016 - Community Announcementshttp://i.giphy.com/3o6Zt3sqIBDEHBIrew.gif HOW WE MADE A WATERCOLOR GAME BY JOSE A. GUTIÉRREZ Sometimes, we are not fully aware of the path we’ve been walking along until we reach the very end of it. Four years ago, we were just a couple of guys at the university with the dream of making a game someday, like many others in their twenties who share their passion. Candle has changed us, both personally and professionally. It has been an amazing experience, but equally exhausting. This is the result of a crazy idea: creating the best 2D adventure out there, and doing it by using traditional hand-made art techniques. When we started, yes, four years ago, we couldn’t see what was coming. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/12075645/338cf2ebfd345540d04df1193f449bb36bfc5e40.jpg When you think you have a good idea on your hands, you feel unstoppable at first, with more than enough energy to achieve everything you always dreamed of. In our case it was creating a videogame… who knows, maybe even reaching important & influential stores like Steam, where the small developers were gaining a lot of importance back in the day. At that time (it was 2012), that’s how we felt. Miguel (my current partner) and I were just 22, and we haven’t finished our degrees at the university (he was studying Software Engineering and I was studying Fine Arts), but we already saw the potential of what we had in mind: Candle, a game in which the player takes control of Teku, a masked kid who needs to save the Shaman of his tribe only with the help of the tiny candle he carries. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/12075645/59fe3f55ccfebe68efa76db4c673f04472447aad.jpg With this idea, and the gameplay mechanics mostly designed, I worked on a comic at an illustration workshop of the university and it was the perfect occasion to also design the world of Candle and its main characters. Although the looks of the characters were very similar to those in the final game, the aesthetics and the narration tone were much more violent and darker than in the actual game we ended up developing (I was really influenced by Art Jensen’s “Limbo” back then, I must admit). Thanks to this comic story, we were able to send the project to a contest, a small entrepreneurs competition hosted by the University of Zaragoza. We had to present a project that would eventually become a studio, and its first “product” to develop. We ended up winning the first prize! Although we just got 3000€, we then had to take the most crucial decision of the entire development: take that money, create a nice and small students project and make it be a little anecdote in our lives, or get serious and try to build a professional future for ourselves with Candle. Of course we chose the latter and with that money, we equipped ourselves with a couple of computers to start working. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/12075645/10cdccc71c0...The Adventure Of Creating An AdventureJul 1, 2016 - Community Announcementshttp://i.giphy.com/3o6Zt3sqIBDEHBIrew.gif HOW WE MADE A WATERCOLOR GAME BY JOSE A.
