Thank you so much for being part of this awesome launch! If you haven't yet, be sure to leave a review on Steam if you enjoyed slicing and dicing your way through the game! It helps a TON. With the feedback we received from the community over the last few months, we've made some adjustments to make Bloodroots better than it's ever been with considerable improvements to the gameflow. Here are the deets! Creating a platformer in isometric view can be tricky. A lot of the negative feedback we've received stems from this aspect. We tried making some adjustments to shift the challenge of the game from the platforming to the actual combat; Removed practically all instances of punitive platforming. Added recovery grounds to prevent falling in deadly pits. Added wall colliders on the edges of the map. Removed certain jumps that were unbalanced. Added more ways to reach higher grounds. The difficulty curve of the game needed some work too - some areas spiked in difficulty and were prone to inducing ragequitting (sorry)! We adjusted the curve to make the game experience smoother as a whole; Re-arranged tricky enemies to locations that make more sense. Adjusted combat space to give more breathing room during battle. Adjusted the sizes of certain areas. Adjusted unfair behavior by the bosses in certain phases. Toned down and modified some environmental obstacles. (Looking at you, ice level!) We always kept in mind players who would experience the game with a keyboard and as such, we want you to expect the same smooth flow whether you play with a keyboard or a controller. With this update, following tons of player data, we made sure to polish the keyboard experience even more via small positional changes that greatly affect the flow of movement. As a whole, we made the game flow better. The core experience of Bloodroots offers you the chance to improvise some deadly combos by using anything around you as a weapon! As such, there are infinite ways of carving your way through an area; Tweaked the placement of certain weapons and enemies to improve the feel of a player's progression through areas. Added more paths to avoid potential dead ends, giving you even more ways to Jackie Chan your way out of sticky situations! Bonus: We hid a bunch of weapons around for you explorers out there. We really hope you enjoy Bloodroots and a big thank you for supporting our launch! We hope those of you who enjoyed Bloodroots on other consoles can enjoy it on Steam too! A minute in and I'm laughing my arse off as I send murderous protagonist Mr. Wolf leaping around a village, ricocheting wagon wheels off surprised villains, firing myself out of cannons and battering baddies with fish. 15 minutes in and I'm convinced it's one of the best action games I've played this year. Hotline Miami seems like an obvious cornerstone. You've got to clear the level of enemies any way you can, using whatever's lying around, and if you get hit, you're dead. But it's a bit more playful. The aesthetic is immediately evocative of Samurai Jack, while the prop-heavy combat is 100 percent Jackie Chan. The result is something that looks very striking, is extremely silly and is gloriously violent. The brief, one-mission demo is filled to the brim with killing tools, most of which you wouldn't normally pick if you had murder in mind. An unassuming barrel, for instance, can be knocked over and ridden, turning it into a deadly steamroller. A handy ladder, meanwhile, can turn you into a whirling dervish of destruction. A lot of items seem to have unique properties and attacks, which can then be strung together to create an endless—but easily broken—combo. So you can ride the barrel, squash some dudes, and then use the barrel to bounce you over an obstacle, where you then grab a ladder, spinning it around and killing some more baddies, before using said ladder to boost you over a wall and onto your next victim. It's acrobatic and blessed with a fantastic rhythm. And conventional weapons are just as satisfying, too. Using a sword, for instance, flings you forwards towards your target where you can kill them in one bloody slash. You can grab weapons mid-air, burn down buildings, smash through walls, use wagons to crush enemies and even knock down trees—there's a lot going on. It's empowering stuff, at least when you don't mess up an attack. Time one perfectly and you'll be treated to a brief animated clip showing you brutally taking out the trash. It feels looser than Hotline Miami, where you have discrete rooms and can treat it like a methodical puzzle. This is more slapstick and brisk, but it's just as easy to make a mistake and be greeted by a blood-red death screen. All it takes is one hit. It took a few attempts for me to finish the demo, though they flew by thanks to the unrelenting pace. If Bloodroots' demo mission is representative of the rest of the game, we're in for a treat when it launches this summer. A lot of games were announced at E3 2019, things that we didn’t know about, as well as stuff that’s previously announced, or expansions to already released games.
