This update adds a new option to the "Mouse Movement" setting so you can use the mouse for aiming instead of movement. This works the same way as the controller aiming introduced last week, allowing to aim directional attacks independently of movement, with a small penalty to movement speed and fire rate. Improvements Added "Aim" option to mouse movement settings Update #3 - Balancing & QOL improvementsJan 9, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing an update addressing some issues that have been around for a while: Improvements: Changed the right stick behavior so the character doesn't fully stop. However, the character will move slower and aimed attacks will have slightly slower fire rate and damage. This penalty isn't applied if you're not moving. Balancing changes: Increased damage and fire rate of the Magic Staff evolution. Slightly increased chance of getting goblets/crowns when breaking stuff and when killing enemies. Slightly increased money rewards for the early stages. Bugfixes: Fixed Skill Cooldown effect icons being the opposite of what they should be (for example, Voodoo Doll telling the Bracers have negative impact on its effect). Update #2 - Minor updateJun 19, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a minor update bringing a couple changes to the game: Improvements: Added a setting to override projectile transparency behavior. Charms are now listed in the post-stage report. Update #1 - Improved Turbo mode, aiming improvements & more!Jun 14, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! First of all, we wanted to thank you for supporting the game after its release! It's great to see so many people enjoying the game and we're glad to see that almost no bugs were found during this week. Today we're releasing an update that brings some improvements to the game that should help addressing one of the most controversial things about the game: Its speed. We're adding a new speed setting over turbo mode that increases overall time scale, making games shorter but way more intense (be advised, increasing speed makes the game harder!). We're also adding a way to aim while standing still, for both mouse+keyboard (left shift key by default) or controller settings (right stick). It works only for forward-aiming weapons (such as the Quicksilver Spears or the Energy Bolt), and it will force the character to stop while using this feature, but it will still be helpful for quick flicks while fleeing from enemies and when doing no move challenges. Another thing we're changing in this update is increasing the power of a few weapons that were underperforming a bit compared to the rest. New features: Turbo mode: Added a new speed setting that further increases gameplay speed. Added a key to force movement stop while pressed (left shift by default). Can be used to aim with the mouse or keyboard without moving. Added keys to force stop and aim while pressed (right stick by default). Can be used to aim with controllers without moving. Gameplay changes: Increased power of the following weapons a bit: Blood Wings (unevolved) Ominous Gale (unevolved) Sparksword (unevolved) Bronze Starfish (unevolved + evolved) Cupid's Arrow (unevolved) Living Paintbrush (unevolved) Ink Geyser (unevolved) Sphere of Destruction (unevolved) Chain Lightning (unevolved) Improvements: Moved a bit some decorations in the Glacier area, the boss should get stuck less often. Bugfixes: Fixed spike traps not fully immobilizing player when using certain skills. Army of Ruin - Available now!Jun 8, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsToday we're releasing the 1.0 version of Army of Ruin! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43019091/4240571054a715b5afcdc45b6f942c3942b126e8.png During the past 8 months we've been in Early Access, we've released over 25 updates adding lots of new content and features, such as 24 playable charactes, over 100 weapons and evolutions, and over 60 different trinkets, many of which were based on the community feedback we've got during the whole process. We believe Army of Ruin has become a great game with lots of contents to unlock and lots of fun to have while doing so, and we hope you think the same way, whether you are a new player or a returning backer! As always, we're eager to hear suggestions and feedback for future content, be it in the Steam forums, in the official Subreddit, or in the official Discord server! We're also releasing the official Soundtrack and new bundles to get the game combined with other items (such as our previous games) at a reduced price. The game will have a 10% discount for the following 10 days, and you can get additional discounts with the themed bundles, such as the Army of Ruin + Soundtrack bundle or Milkstone Complete Collection bundle! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1918040/Army_of_Ruin/ https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/32970/Army_of_Ruin__Soundtrack_Bundle/Early Access Update #26 - Hotfix updateMay 25, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! We're releasing a quick hotfix today, fixing an issue reported yesterday: Bugfixes: Fixed the game performing some unintended logic when paused that could lead to huge temporary slowdowns once unpaused. Early Access Update #25 - QoL ImprovementsMay 24, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a new update adding a bunch of quality of life improvements to make it easier to do some things such as managing favorites or doing a respec. Improvements: You can now keep upgrading / downgrading skills in the Upgrades section by keeping the button pressed. You can now favorite evolved weapons (the base weapon will be the one actually favorited). In the challenges section, if you click on a challenge requiring a specific mission, it will take you to that mission. Note that it won't check if you can actually meet the conditions listed. Reduced CPU load of the explosive crabs death effect in the Glacier. Made it so projectiles become partially transparent when they reach huge sizes. Bugfixes: Fixed Burning Baton not showing the proper model. Early Access Update #24 - Hotfix updateMay 17, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsToday's update brings some CPU performance improvements and a couple fixes for yesterday's update. Improvements: Reduced CPU usage of projectiles and damage numbers. Projectiles are still the main source of CPU usage of the game, but it should be noticeably less now. If the game falls below 15FPS, some effects, damage numbers and calculations will be skipped to help with performance. Bugfixes: Fixed new challenges showing a star icon in some places. Fixed missing localization for Health syphon stat (used in Vampire gauntlets). Early Access Update #23 - Challenging challengesMay 16, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a new update for the game, and probably the last content update before the 1.0 release. This update brings a new set of challenges with restrictive conditions such as don't move, don't get hit, or use don't get past a specific upgrade budget, that will usually require careful consideration when leveling up. We've also added a bunch of new weapons and trinkets as rewards for these challenges, as well as new achievements (this should be the last batch before release), and some balancing changes and bugfixes for equipment and stages. New content: Added 15 new challenges, one for each stage, with challenging unlock conditions. Added 4 new weapons and 11 new unlockable trinkets. Gameplay changes: Decreased Samael skill damage. Samael skill was just too strong, melting bosses in a matter of seconds. Increased Reroll and Banish cap. While the Favorites system is better suited to get specific items, rerolling/banishing are still useful to tailor level ups on the go, however with the amount of items added lately, 10 rerolls were just not enough for many players, so we've increased the maximum amount a bit. Increased Chain Lightning power (base+evo). Chain Lightning has been a very popular weapon, but its performance was below expectations, also dragging Azazel down in the process. Increased Sphere of Destruction power (base). Despite its severe aiming restrictions, Sphere of Destruction didn't have the power to compensate for that. However, the evolution was performing better thanks to the bouncing behavior. Decreased Poison Root power a bit (evo only). After a recent buff, Poison Root was the highest performing weapon by far. We've toned it down a bit so it performs similarly to the other evolutions. Increased power of Gaff Deck a bit (evo only). This evolution wasn't performing as well as expected, falling behind even non-evolved weapons. Increased power of Living Paintbrush (base + evo). While not as bad as Chain Lightning, Living Paintbrush was also a bit behind other weapons, specially the evolution. Increased power of Spinning Chaos (evo only). Another evolution that wasn't performing as well as intended. Increased power of Anvil of Heaven (base + evo). Anvil of Heaven is a heavy hitter, but it wasn't hitting hard enough to compensate for its long cooldown. Adjusted difficulty of Shrine levels. We've adjusted difficulty of specific waves and enemies of the recently added Shrine stages. Bugfixes: Fixed downgrading Favorites not removing previously favorited items from the list. Early Access Update #22 - Small updateMay 9, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today's update brings a few bugfixes and a change to the controller movement behavior. Improvements: Added Hungarian language. Reduced minimum speed input for controller and mouse from 50% to 20%. Russian language: Titles will now use a font that supports russian glyphs. Gameplay changes: Ghostly Trail now scales with player speed (the faster you move the more trails you spawn). When not moving, the weapon shoots at a slower rate. Added Thorns stat to the pause screen. Bugfixes: Fixed Controller Dead Zone setting not being properly applied on stage start. Fixed Ghostly Trail and Promethean Flames accidentally using Fire Rate. Early Access Update #21 - Hotfix updateMay 5, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today's update fixes a few issues recently introduced: Gameplay changes: Reduced Favorites skill price, and increased its power. Money difference for spent points will be reimbursed Bugfixes: Fixed resurrect UI / logic not working properly on specific characters. Fixed Storm Javelin not properly using Duration upgrades. Update #20 - Hotfix updateMay 3, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThis hotfix addresses a few issues detected in the last update: Improvements: Added back the ability to move slower than maximum speed on controller. To avoid issues, we've made it so the minimum speed is 50% of the maximum, instead of 0%.. Added this to mouse movement as well if you're inside the circle. Reduced a bit controller dead zone. Bugfixes: Fixed Experiment XIX skill not working exactly as intended. Fixed Steam Presence not updating properly (always showing "At the Menus") Early Access Update #19 - The Hidden ShrineMay 2, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43019091/e34529c4f4f82c9801c8fd26db52b37d81ab5cfa.jpg In today's update we're releasing the 5th zone for the game, featuring four new stages filled with new enemies and traps, equipment to unlock, and three new playable characters! As the game is nearing its 1.0 release, we've also worked hard on polishing the UI and gameplay, adding a bunch of new features in the process, such as the in-game map, as well as some balances and Quality of Life changes that we're sure you'll like! Full changelog of the update: New features: New area: Hidden Shrine, including 4 new missions with their own enemies, bosses and challenges. 11 New weapons (+11 evolutions) and 4 new trinkets to unlock. 3 New Unlockable Characters. New Unlockable Features: In-game Map (check nearby pickups, chests, etc) and Favorites (increase chances of getting specific equipment in a stage). Added Steam Achievements for all the new unlockable content. Added Italian / Russian languages. Improvements: Revised visibility of all weapon attacks. In an earlier update, we changed many things to make sure visibility remained within acceptable levels in heavily crowded situations. However, we went a bit overboard with specific weapons, making their effects barely visible. We've done an extensive update on all weapons' visuals to make sure they can be noticed while keeping them from obstructing view in the later stages. Trinkets that would enable evolution of one or more equipped weapons will be shown as recommended in the level up screen. The "Evolve N weapons" challenge now recommends eligible weapons in the level up screen. Boss name will now be shown on its health bar. Added a setting to change character voices volume. Controller face buttons settings are now saved per system, not per user. Challenges requiring a weapon evolution will show the required elements on their description. Adjusted lighting of specific stages to increase visibility. Added a way to check current stats from the level up / Charm selection screens. Added a new section with a list of recent plays for all stages. Recent plays could be shown for a specific stage, but there was no way to check the full list from a single point. Recent plays will now save and show how much money you did spend in upgrades. Useful to compare performance between different players. WIll also be used in future challenges. Message for challenges that can't be attempted yet: Now it will show the stage where the item you need is unlocked (if you have that stage already unlocked). A panel is shown at the beginning of the stage showing the recommended challenges for the current stage. Some direct damage trinkets (such as Fire Mirror or Explosive Flask) will now show icons telling if other trinket upgrades affect them, just like weapons do. Gameplay changes: Reworked Bow evolution, now it will keep shooting right like its base version, but shots will bounce on the screen borders. While a controversial weapon since its inception, t...Early Access Update #18 - Trinket changes and QOL improvementsMar 13, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a small update with a few important changes and bugfixes, and some improvements to a few unpopular or underperforming trinkets. Improvements: Added a "Immune only" setting to damage numbers so you can hide standard numbers, but still see the "Immune" warning. Gameplay changes: Onyx Coin now stops giving percentual improvements beyond level 30, and switches to a fixed XP amount. This prevents the trinket being incredibly powerful in Endless stages, as well as introducing a freeze bug when reaching incredibly high XP levels (around level 450+). Player level is now capped at 200.Shouldn't be reachable in almost any case, but just to avoid potential problems. Capped amount of power ups spawned. In Endless stages, powerups could pile up and clutter the screen with arrows. Now if there's a specific amount of them in the vicinity, new power ups won't be spawned, the ones further away will be relocated to a closer distance instead. Done some changes to underperforming/unpopular trinkets: Medicinal Herbs: Added +Projectiles effect. Ice Tear: Removed chance, improved effect. Soul Container: Added +Damage effect when resurrecting. Silver Bullets: Increased +Knockback effect. Viking Helm: Added +Fire Rate effect. Book of Omens: Reduced stat penalties when leveling the trinket up. War Drums: Slightly increased damage dealt. Ice Mirror: Made the effect more frequent, but with a shorter duration. Marine Necklace: Made the effect more frequent. Crimson Flask: Made the effect more frequent, radius increases a bit further when leveling up. Magic Needle: Made the effect a bit stronger and the penalty a bit weaker. Elixir of Health: Now it also slightly increases Speed. Exotic Spice: Improved effect. Hourglass: Added +Luck effect. Frozen Cross: Slightly improved effect. Rabbit Foot: Improved effect. Coin Purse: Improved effect. Seal of Purity: Slightly improved effect. Shackles: Slightly improved effect. Buckler: Removed charges, reduced cooldown, now petrifies the enemy that hit you. Travel Boots: Improved effect. Doubled chances of a weapon/trinket showing up as a choice when leveling up if it's required on an available Stage challenge. This should help completing specific challenges when lots of equipment have been already unlocked. Once the item is equipped, further upgrades follow the usual logic. Player enhancements will not show up if the stat is currently capped. This could easily happen with the Skill Cooldown stat. UI Scale / Display Area are now saved outside Steam Cloud. This was already done for Video settings, but these two settings were not. Depending on the case, these settings may be user or machine related, but we believe it's less confusing and easier to change this way. Bugfixes: Fixed Freeze when leveling up beyond level 450. See Onyx Coin for more details on what caused it. Fixed scroll not working properly with the controller when checking stats for previous games. Early Access Update #17 - Small updateMar 8, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a small update bringing some changes to better support French keyboard layouts. Improvements: Added automatic and manual AZERTY/QWERTZ keyboard layout detection. For first-time runs, the game will detect the layout and change default game controls from WASD to ZQSD, as well as menu inputs. There's a new setting in Settings->Game to override the layout used. Early Access Update #16 - Endless Stages, Achievements, Trading Cards & more!Mar 6, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHi! Today we're releasing a new update adding two of the most requested features: Endless Stages and Achievements, as well as a bunch of new items to unlock and other features and quality of life improvements. New features: Added Endless Stages: New stages with no final boss and no set limit, with enemies that grow stronger over time! Added a total of 167 Steam Achievements, tied to challenges. Achievements will unlock retroactively for previously completed challenges. Added Steam Trading Cards 2 New unlockable characters. 2 New unlockable trinkets. 4 New unlockable weapons. Added Czech language. Improvements: Limited the amount of "Immune" messages when hitting invulnerable enemies to avoid screen clutter. Made more clear the money earned from completion and challenge rewards in the post-mission screen. You can now apply some filters to challenges. Weapons that can be evolved with the current elements, and charms that can be boosted, will show a "Recommended" text in the Level Up / Charm selection screens. Added a small delay where input is ignored in the Charm selection screen. This is already done in the Level Up screen, but the Charm selection one didn't have it yet. Implemented pooling of several game items (bullets, enemies, FX...). Should improve CPU performance, with a minor increase in memory usage. While we've tested this thoroughly, some unexpected behavior may have slipped. If you find anything that doesn't feel right, please report it! Some UI changes for better Steam Deck compatibility. Gameplay changes: Increased damage to petrified enemies by 40%. Chests may give now enhancements when no upgrades are available, depending on Luck. Decreased XP requirements on level 25 and onwards. A previous update added an increase in XP requirement for high levels. While we believe it was a good change, it was a bit stronger than intended, so we've toned it down. Crossbow and its evolution no longer uses projectile Speed upgrades. The evolution effects were actually worse with upgraded speed, because the bullet would split outside of the screen. Bugfixes: Fixed Extra Lives trinket not showing the actual amount in some languages. Fixed +Health Charms losing the extra health after an equipment change (for example evolving a weapon). Fixed Spawn animation of some of the Graveyard spawners. Fixed Worms shooting despite being frozen or petrified.
