These weapons, which can attack through walls and tiles while being shielded by buildings, will unleash a satisfying rain of arrows into the night sky. In addition to the wall-mounted weapons, new weapons, enemies, and adjustments to game balance and enemy formations will make battles even more complex and engaging in v1.0.0. Patch Notes Feature Additions A new building has been added: the wall-mounted weapon. This weapon can be attached to the walls of rooms. A new building has been added: the World Tree Energy Extractor and its associated facilities. The World Tree Energy Extractor can be activated by placing it on the foundation of a World Tree sapling. The second half of the journey in Normal Mode has been added. This new area will not be reflected in existing save data, so you will need to start a new game to access it. A new boss has been added. Subspecies of regular enemies have been added. Feature Improvements A notification has been added when a mine has been depleted. Balance Adjustments / Bug Fixes / Miscellaneous Overall combat balance has been adjusted. The conditions and probability for negative traits when generating Golems have been changed. CPU processing has been further optimized. New BGM for rocky and snowy areas has been added. Effects have been adjusted. Leaving Early Access SoonOct 29, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsHello hello. Today's news is a little bittersweet. We started Early Access with a plan in place to finish creating the game, but also a lot of hope for what we could achieve beyond that plan. We still have a lot of ideas and things we want to try with Ark of Charon that's been growing and growing with your feedback. But we have to and want to have a cutoff point for Early Access development where we can be sure to be able deliver a fully finished game. Realistically, we believe that point is about now. So we are leaving Early Access soon, sometime next month. There is some disappointment there, of things we really wanted to deliver to you but couldn't, but we have been keeping busy cramming in as much content and improvements we could in the time that we have. I am really excited and happy to deliver version 1.0.0 to you all next month! I am also hopeful, that with the boost from officially launching, we will do well and sell well and we can continue development and keep updating the game. But before we share what you can look forward to in version 1.0.0 (look out for our next post!), I'd like to thank everyone who participated in our Early Access, took the time to leave us feedback or did our player survey. It was all immensely helpful to us in shaping our game, and keeping us motivated and inspired throughout. Releasing a game this way was a new experience for our team, so it's been a really valuable learning experience for us. We especially enjoyed going through the player survey answers. When we did that survey, we were a bit more hopeful of the future. Some of the plans we made from the results, we've had to pause development for now. So again, it is a bit bittersweet, but I'd still like to share some of the results with you. We had 238 submissions in total. Most wanted new game mode was an endless mode with 36% out of 6 main choices Most wanted new content was a growth system for Golems with 39% out of 12 main choices For most wanted improvement, it was Golem AI with 23% out of 12 main choices Game satisfaction average was a 3.98 out of 5 Thank you again to all who took the time to answer the survey! The main game has been updated and improved quite a bit since the demo, but it should still be a fun first taste of the game. I hope you have fun with it. We originally took the demo down because ideally, we wanted the demo to be up to date with the full version. In hindsight though, we’d rather more people get to try. Mostly QoL features and bug fixes, but there's some interesting things there. First off, finally we have a food restriction features. Thank you to everyone who's requested this! Also, we've decided to let you do something interesting...you can now actually choose to go back left on the World Map! Only in Normal Mode for now. Please let us know how you feel about this new feature, and how it affected the game for you. And another one that's important but a little less glamorous...we've got a fix in for performance issues that can start from around mid-game, that should be quite effective! We'll keep working on this though. If you were having trouble with slow performance and this update didn't help things at all, please let us know. You can now prioritize or ban specific meals for each Golem. In Normal Mode, you can now move leftwards on the World Map. Changed the sizes of two types of titanium rooms. The size of existing built rooms in saved data will remain unchanged. Added a Tutorial Notes feature to the pause menu. You can now review all tutorial content there. Feature Updates Changed the priority so that Golems doing priority commands will still eat when they are hungry. When in a certain command mode, information was added to appear near the mouse cursor to indicate the current mode. Added supplementary explanations to each filter UI. Added tooltips to each UI, which can be toggled on or off in the Options menu. Enabled camera movement by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen. This feature can be toggled on or off from the options. When there is an targeted location or characters regarding an event that occured within the colony are displayed, you can now click on the message to move the camera to them. Added crop descriptions when setting up agricultural zones. Now shows the size of the area being dragged when issuing mining commands. Balance Adjustments / Bug Fixes / Others Added an additional animation that plays after the opening movie. This is only shown during a new game. Adjusted the combat balance in Roguelike Mode. Changed the final boss’s specific attack behavior so it can now be blocked by defensive facility barriers. Optimized the game, especially in the mid-to-late stages. We will continue to optimize. Adjusted the UI layout to improve visibility. Updated the tutorial videos. Added durability information to weapon descriptions. Made various other minor fixes and adjustments. I’m very excited to finally have this content update up for you all, and to commemorate, we’ll also have the game on sale for a week! There’s a new game mode that we’re excited for you to try; the Rogue-like Mode. It’s a little more fast paced than the normal mode, and also higher in difficulty when you first start out. However! You can earn points from each of your runs, and level up your colony for your next runs. Do try it out, and tell us how it goes. Also, we’ve added a lot of QoL content additions, fixes, adjustments and improvements. Your feedback has helped in shaping pretty much every aspect of this and we’re continuously thankful for that. Full notes for the update below: ■ Feature Additions Added a new game mode, "Roguelike Mode." You can select this mode by switching modes on the title screen. In this mode, you can earn two types of points based on your journey, which can be used to enhance your colony or select initial resources. Added new buildings: "Storage Tile" and "Compressed Packing Tile." These tiles increase the amount of items that can be stored. Added new buildings: "Fully Automatic Cooker" and "Canned Food Machine." Added four new room types and changed the sizes of three existing room types. However, the sizes of already-built rooms saved in previous data will not change. Added a priority command feature. Tasks with specified priorities will be executed preferentially. Added mission-style guidance to the tutorial. Added three new food items: "Salad Bowl," "Cornbread," and "Tomato Lettuce Sauté." ■ Feature Improvements Added item descriptions to the manufacturing menu. Manufacturing settings are retained when moving manufacturing facilities. You can now view the information of the current area on the world map. Golems, little goblin-like beings, tend to a newly emerged ray of hope; a seedling mounted on the back of a giant, walking tree creature. But the darkness that killed the tree is still out there, hunting the sprout, so the creature can only rest a while before it needs to move on, outrunning the dark storm. Tranquil base building and intense tower defense combine like the crests and troughs of an ocean wave. In the longer, calmer sections, Ark of Charon is a competent but uninspiring base building game. In the shorter, chaotic combat phases, it's fiendishly difficult, adding a layer of challenge that drives the game forward but soon proves overwhelming. Read the rest of the story...
