This is a fix for cases where the backup save isn't corrupted, but also isn't a valid save file which can happen if it's been edited using an external program. Fingers crossed this should finally for real for real be the end of the save data issues, but if you're STILL having issues where you can't start the game please let us know on our discord.Amanda the Adventurer ver 1.6.17May 13, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsYet another small patch. Previously there was a fix to deal with players save data being corrupted and forcing them to restart the game, so we changed things so the game first backs up your old save before writing new data incase something goes wrong. However when the save was backed up the game didn't check to see if it was corrupted, leading to cases where both your main AND backup saves were corrupted. Now the game properly checks if your save is valid before backing it up so it won't back up corrupted data. The other big change is that we've removed the ability to re-map controls that were bound to the mouse. Alas, my dreams of seeing someone speedrun the game with bongos have been shattered, but it was a sacrifice that had to be made. Often times players would accidentally rebind mouse inputs while remapping other controls and think that the game was broken when their mouse wasn't working they way they expected, so we've removed mouse re-mapping to help with this confusion. If you have previously re-mapped the mouse controls they'll continue to use your custom mapping until you reset them either in the input remapping menu or by holding ESC at the title screen for a few seconds to reset all your settings. Apologies to anyone who was using mouse re-mapping in earnest. Praise be the last paragraph. The big one this time is dealing with issues some players have been having with the alternate version of Everything Rots, the clips for which were using the wrong file format causing them to not work on some machines. Aside from that the other notable thing is there are some fixes for the polish and korean localizations removing new line characters (\n) that were left in the subtitle text. If your still having issues with videos playing after this try updating your graphics card drivers. Some players have also mentioned that if your using an Nvidia graphics card disabling v-sync (vertical sync) in your Nvidia control panel separately from the in-game v-sync can also help. This was due to how the game checks for corrupted save files. In some cases if saving is interrupted it's possible for the game to save an empty file, which isn't technically corrupted, so the game would treat it as a valid save file which would break everything. Now the game properly treats an empty file as it would a corrupted file, and will load the backup save. Do you think anyone will notice if I just copy the last paragraph again? There's also some minor bug fixes for the pie tin not accepting ingredients if you had solved one oven puzzle then pivoted to the other, and fixes for vSync settings not being saved properly which should also help with the settings issues people have been encountering. There was an issue with this previously that was fixed, but if your option settings were corrupted you had to reset them manually by holding ESC on the title screen. Now the game will automatically detect corrupted option settings and revert them to their default values instead of letting everything break. But that's not all there is to this update! We've also got a bug fix for dealing with corrupted saves, so if you played the game and came back the next day to find that it wasn't working that's probably why. The game will now back up your saves so if your save gets corrupted it'll use the backup instead. Unfortunately since this was just added if your save was corrupted previously you'll have to start over again. We've also had reports of the game getting stuck while trying to play videos. If this happens please update your graphics card drivers and try again. If you continue to run into this issue after you've updated your graphics card drivers please let us know. There's also a small tweak to prevent cases where people accidentally get the Splish Splash achievement. Your gonna have to figure out this one properly now!
