As the year draws to a close, it has been two months since the release of the Logistic Update and a few weeks of subsequent adjustments. We’ve been gathering suggestions and feedback from all directions. By combining these insights with ongoing research and development for our next title, we’ve achieved breakthroughs on multiple fronts—some of which we’re excited to apply to Kingdoms Adrift. Starting with this update, we will share more announcements and updates about our upcoming title’s progress alongside the improvements we’re making to Kingdoms Adrift. We’re also focusing on enhancing the game’s content and balancing to not only refine the experience for Kingdoms Adrift but also to serve as valuable lessons for our new project. Our goal is to make Kingdoms Adrift the best it can possibly be while laying the groundwork for what’s to come. As mentioned previously, we always push the recent build into Beta for testing before the release and we could always use extra hands. Update Note for 1.6.1.2 Status: LIVE NOW: 24th December 2024 Older Saves: Safe to continue Improvements: Improvement #1 Offloading GPU with a new skybox renderer We’ve brought a new rendering pipeline from our "New Project" into Kingdoms Adrift. Initially, we thought it wouldn’t be compatible—but we were pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise. So, we thought, why not give it a go? The result was very satisfying with our test machine running constantly below 60°C (Default GPU fans threshold) Previously, with our legacy skybox renderer (The temperature isn’t relevant here): {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40281411/b619e5b41acbf58b2837a751db8a979dae7e7217.png After implementing the new skybox renderer, we managed to shave off approximately 45% of the GPU load—quite the improvement!: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/40281411/03c1966b699a3bc460e327b67accfaa0494bfe18.png With this update, graphics cards equivalent to or above the game’s recommended specs should no longer require constant cooling in most cases. This means you can enjoy Kingdoms Adrift for longer sessions without worrying! We’ve also been investigating other factors affecting late-game performance. While there’s limited optimization we can do with Unity Physics, we identified and addressed several script-related inefficiencies. For example, The AI officers’ listener was repeatedly looping and recalculating ship part performance whenever a ship part was destroyed. This caused frame freezes, especially when multiple parts were destroyed simultaneously. Similar inefficiencies were found in the algorithms for target scanning and bullet spawning. These discoveries wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community—especially @ItsJustLuck on our official Discord server, who provided save files and insights into the core of these issues. Upcoming PvP Events Now that we have a substantial number of players in the community, many of you have been part of our journey for quite some time. As a result, it's not always easy to find new opponents for sparring. However, the Discord community is planning an event to address this. The Automation Update A while back, we announced updates to the automation process along with detailed designs in a Previous Devlog. While we can't provide a specific release date for this update, we want to assure you that it's still in the works and will be implemented eventually. What have we been doing? As I've mentioned many times before, we'll be working on our new title. So far, we've focused on generating interest from future publishers and investors. However, we're not officially allowed to start working on the new title until September 23rd, 2024, which marks the full anniversary release of Airship: Kingdoms Adrift. During this period, we've created mockups, designs, and even a poster for the new game. Since the integration of the crash report and feedback system, we have received a very useful dataset that has helped us improve the game's stability to a great extent. It made me wonder why we didn’t have it integrated since the playtesting phase. Well, lesson learned, and thanks to everyone who has been playing and hitting those “submit” buttons! Update Note for 1.5.4.1 Status: LIVE NOW: 15th April 2024 Older Saves: Safe to continue as always Now for the NEW STUFF! We recognize that many players have encountered difficulties stripping ships for parts. While we couldn't code the game to allow unfinished ships to leave the shipyard, we were somewhat stuck and couldn't find a solution for some time. However, thanks to our community member @DasIrrlicht, who proposed a solution, we were able to implement it as soon as possible! We added a couple of items to help you fill up those pesky parts that you want to remove from a ship. Currently, we're focusing on the beginning stages of a new project that we'll soon be announcing. We've already taken note of all the feedback and concerns everyone has regarding the design. We have also been working on these: Improvements: Text display areas in the "How to Play" section will now be easier to accommodate localized strings. Fixed some Chinese localization Bug Fixes: Officers will no longer provide active tactic performance once their respective command slots are destroyed. Fixed some battle conclusion conditions related to surrendering that caused the game to crash. Fixed instances where advancing dialogs crashed the game. Fixed cases where location panel switching caused the game to crash. Fixed ships' cruising speed calculation for UI display, preventing crashes. Devlog: Freight AutomationMar 29, 2024 - Community AnnouncementsGreetings Skyfarers! In this developer update, we introduce you to the feature on our drawing board, the “Automated Freight” which will enhance the player gameplay experience by adding item transfer automation and restocking to the world of Airship: Kingdoms Adrift. The date of availability for this update is still not set in stone but we would like to invite you to have a look and discuss your thoughts on the design direction this feature is taking. The overall goal of this feature set is to improve the gameplay experience focusing on one of the most important aspects of the game: item production, which in the current version, requires a lot of manual execution. At the same time, as the game progresses, most of the players will obtain airships that are underutilized. So we are giving them more purposes as well. Let’s explore the current item production and transfer issues, and then we will look into the automated freight in detail. Item production Item production is one of the key features of Airship: Kingdoms Adrift. This feature allows the players to produce almost all items in the game including exclusive airships, ship parts, and valuable goods. But to produce such complex recipes, the factories also require a lot of resources, materials, and components that need to be collected and transferred from many regions of Suthseg. Right now there are two ways to transfer items between ports, firstly, direct transportation using the player’s fleet, secondly, the players can fill an unassigned airship with items and then utilize the send airship feature. Excess airships and send airship feature In Airship: Kingdoms Adrift, the players can capture most enemy airships by winning a boarding battle against them. Once the players get a new airship, they can add it to their fleet, sell it by its base value (ship parts not included), or store it at any available port. And this is where the “send airship” system shines. Because the players can use all unassigned airships to transfer items within Suthseg, feeding items into the production chains or just selling the goods for profits. The only problem is, while fully functional, this method requires a fresh input for every single trip, afterward the players still need to transfer the items to the warehouse manually. Automated freight feature The automated freight system is our new addition to improve the player’s quality of life as an item transfer automation. Let’s look into this feature in detail.
