We've released a quick hotfix for Total War Saga: Throne of Britannia! Thank you! - The Total War TeamA Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia - Game UpdateJul 4, 2023 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/31196189/f55b16edddc0127f71011fcd9161e038613605de.png We've released a game update for A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia which includes: ↗️ Compiler upgrade - This is an update for the game to better use modern architecture and improve performance. 🖥️ Fixed game crashing when running on CPUs with more than 32 logical processors. This update also removes integrated chat from the game. Please read below for more information. Message regarding the removal of integrated chat We appreciate the frustrations expressed by our community regarding the recent removal of integrated chat from our titles. Keeping our players safe when engaging with our games is extremely important to us. To reduce the risk of players abusing the system and partaking in concerning and harmful behaviour, we have disabled the in-game chat functionality and instead recommend using dedicated third-party platforms like Discord, which offer enhanced moderation and safety measures. The official Total War Discord server is also a great place to meet other Total War players - both for multiplayer sessions and general chat - and to utilise our dedicated voice channels. Additionally, we'd like to make you aware that we'll be closing several opt-in Steam beta builds for Total War: ROME II, Total War: ATTILA, A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia, Total War: WARHAMMER, Total War: WARHAMMER II and Total War: THREE KINGDOMS on Wednesday, 19th July 2023. Most players will be unaffected by this change, but for anyone currently using these builds, your game will automatically sync to the live build of the game allowing you to begin a new save-game and play as normal. Do you have recommendations or suggestions that could help support the communication you need in our older titles? Is there a reason why alternative solutions don't quite hit the mark for you? Share them with us, and we'll make sure the feedback is passed on to the right people. Thanks for your understanding. - The Total War TeamTroy: A Total War Saga's Ajax & Diomedes Faction Pack DLC launching later this monthJan 14, 2021 - EurogamerCreative Assembly's Aegean Total War spin-off, Troy: A Total War Saga, is set to receive another helping of paid DLC later this month, this time in the form of the Ajax & Diomedes Faction Pack, which comes to the Epic Games Store on 28th January. Ajax & Diomedes, as its name very much implies, enlivens Troy's core strategy action by introducing the two titular Iliad heroes, alongside new campaign mechanics, new era-inspired warriors, veteran Paragon units, and more. Ajax the Great, described as the "shield that protects the Achaean Host", is supported by slow but heavily equipped defensive infantry units and powerful missile units, while Diomedes - the King of Argos - specialises in "crushing attacks with well-rounded axe and sword infantry, combined with quick flanking units from surprising locations." (more…) Total War Saga: Troy's battles feel a tad dry, but its mythology is fascinatingJun 4, 2020 - EurogamerThe Bronze Age, it turns out, is not an easy period to turn into a historically accurate, highly detailed video game like Total War. But it does sound fascinating. There are huge gaps in important places, unusual changes to how armies are proportioned, and the small matter of Homer's Iliad sprinkling myth and magic over everything. Playing it, I think there's room for a little more of the mythical stuff - but talking to Total War Saga: Troy's game director Maya Georgieva and senior game designer Milcho Vasilev, I'm also confident there's a good deal more to come. "We wanted to take a direction that has not been taken by any Total War before," Georgieva told me, "this period of history, which is ancient history, the Bronze Age... I mean no Total War has gone there before us, and there's a good reason for that! It's not been missed by accident, it's really tough for a Total War game to go into this era because the sources that we need to make an on-par experience with the titles that you love are missing, or are scarce in that period. Total War Saga: Troy is The Creative Assembly's second entry in its strategy spin-off series - following on from 2018's decent Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia - and, like its predecessor, is designed to offer a shorter, more focused take on the core series' blend of turn-based empire management and real-time tactics. While Thrones of Britannica set its strategic action in the British Isles of 878 AD, Troy heads to the Mediterranean of the Bronze Age - the earliest period the Total War series has tackled so far - focusing on the battle between Troy and Mycenaean Greece, better known as the Trojan War. It’s been around 48 hours since the announcement and I cannot possibly retain this state for much longer. By the time the Christmas-ish release date rolls around I will either have exploded like a poor little meat balloon, or gone full circle and lapsed into a coma. Like the engines of the Enterprise, she cannae hold – definitely not for around six more months, anyway. Thank god that Vikings are an enduring and popular theme for games, then! I can inoculate myself against disaster by playing a few of these existing ones while I wait. Such is the versatility of Vikings that they pop up in almost every genre imaginable, too. So if, like me, you are already on the edge of your seat (and that seat is in a longship), here are some recommendations for varied and quality video games that will get you prepared for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In this case, its the setting of Homer's Illiad, featuring the Trojan war between Troy and Greece. Due to launch on PC in 2020, it's the first game in the series to have its development led by Creative Assembly's team in Sofia, Bulgaria. Its existence has been something of an open secret, after popping up in a trademark listing last month. Read more A Total War Saga: Troy imagines the truth behind the myths, turning wooden horses into earthquakesSep 19, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun According to the Iliad, the sacking of Troy only happened after a very specific set of things occurred in the right order. So, I asked Todor Nikolov, lead game designer at Creative Assembly Sofia, would players have to set up the same set of circumstances? “You’re probably talking about the Trojan Horse?” he replied. HahaHAHAHha yes of course, that’s what I was talking about, it would be ludicrous to expect that a strategy game allowed players to plan for and/or orchestrate Achilles sulking and Patrolclus getting himself killed, and then Achilles going grief-berserk over his dead boyfriend. Over on the Total War subreddit, user zhxws posted a link to the listing on the UK's Intellectual Property Office website. Total War Saga: Troy is the name of the game, and the trademark is owned by developer The Creative Assembly. Total War Saga titles are like the main Total War strategy games, but focused on a particular time period as opposed to an era. The first Total War Saga title, Thrones of Britannia, came out in May 2018, and was set in the British Isles, 878 AD, with 10 playable factions. The Sofia studio is once again at the helm, though it's also working on other projects. Details are slim, but it's apparently passed its first milestone. Sagas are, in concept, pretty neat. They're focused Total Wars that cover a briefer time and smaller place, such as Alfred the Great's wars against the Danes in Thrones of Britannia. It's something Creative Assembly experimented with back in expansions like Napoleon and Fall of the Samurai, both of which were series high points, though the first saga left something to be desired. Thrones of Britannia ended up being bold and fast-paced at the start, but quickly found itself in a lull with boring adversaries and a rapidly shrinking list of threats. It reconsidered a lot of Total War mainstays, however, so I'm still looking forward to what future sagas change. Elsewhere in the update, Three Kingdoms' new auto resolve option is unveiled. It's completely predictive now. If you saunter up to a general, start a fight and get told you'll win a decisive victory, you are guaranteed that decisive victory if you hit auto resolve. A new Lord Pack DLC for Warhammer 2 is also in the works, along with some unique features for the original Warhammer races, which you'll be able to take advantage of in both Warhammer 1 and Mortal Empires. The fantasy team's in pre-production for its next project—I assume Warhammer 3—and mocap performances are being recorded. The time between the first and second Warhammer games was just over a year, but it looks like the gap between the second and third will be a bit longer. Once done, you can update any mod descriptions that may have been deleted. These are the Total War team s favourite ever Total War factionsFeb 8, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun According to an ancient Sussex proverb, there are as many factions in the 20-year-old Total War series as there are sand grains on a beach, as there are angels dancing upon the head of a pin, as there are grenadiers in the armies of his Imperial Majesty Napoleon I, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine, Co-Prince of Andorra. This is providing, of course, the answer in each case is between 100 and 200, depending on whether you include the DLC and think Sicily is a real country. From stinky hill tribes through trim Teutonic phalanxes to bawling rivers of undead, Total Warring has certainly come in all shapes and sizes. At a recent hands-on event for Total War: Three Kingdoms, a heinous idea occurred to me: why not confuse and upset all the developers in attendance (plus a couple more over email) by asking them to pick a favourite faction? The results, which involved surprisingly few headbutts, are below. (more…)
