A Night at the Races

A Night at the Races - Switch Release announcement!Aug 28, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsAfter a long porting process, we are happy to announce that "A Night at the Races" will be available for download for Nintendo Switch, on September 3, 2021. But you don't have to wait, you can pre-order the game (or wishlist it) from the game's eShop link: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/a-night-at-the-races-switch/ Switch version has some different features to fit better within the platform: - There are no achievements, but there are leaderboards (there is one global leaderboard and separate leaderboards for every 'regular' level) - There are no different difficulty options, as in PC version, but your character has now 4 lives by default, and stars are given according to how many lives you lost during the level. Although this is nearly same with the "casual difficulty" option in PC, we realized newcomers experience the same system differently when the default way to play is not punishing out of the gate. (I like this new system, but this is hard to apply directly to the PC version because of achievements) - God mode is not hidden in Switch version, you can directly skip any level from pause menu, whenever you want. The penalty is you don't get any stars and a leaderboard score (For those who doesn't know, in PC version, you can access god-mode from console by writing CHEAT) Thanks to our friends and our publisher who is making this possible! Have fun! UmutUpdate v 1.0.4 - Assist mode is here!Jan 20, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsHello, Umut here! Along with a screenshake on-off toggle, update v 1.0.4 brings you a new screen in options menu: Difficulty settings, AKA assist mode! Since the release, one of the most received feedbacks I had was about difficulty. It can be hard to provide difficulty settings without breaking the game for others, and every game is different (along with the intention of designer), so the options provided by similar games can be hard to apply in another game, because of different mechanics or the code complexity. New difficulty settings are: Game speed, allows you to play the game slower than the usual (down to %60 of default speed). This is the best option to try first, if you find yourself struggle too much. No penalties. Enabling casual difficulty gives you 3 per lives per level. This was once available with a hidden code, now became an open option. Achievements in this mode are less and different, as before. This is not to punish players who have a hard time, but to reward those who put the extra time to the game. 3 lives let you skip challenging parts of levels, which make a big part of the game, so it should be used if you really struggle even after you decrease game speed, otherwise it might kill the fun for you. Dash Cooldown allows you disable the cooldown time after dashes, so that you can spam dashing. Only available in casual difficulty, since it makes certain challenges irrelevant. AND Total invincibility... With a hidden code, you can now access to a god mode. Beware, this is only meant for players who want to see the end of the story without investing any more time to platforming. So if you don't want to skip most of the actual content, you should probably visit this option as a last-resort. Otherwise, it will seriously kill the fun you might have! Also, when you turn the god mode on, you can't unlock encore levels and no-magnet mode, and gain no achievements. Please let me know if you encounter a bug / problem, you can either write in community hub or send a mail to mushyjukebox -at - gmail com. Have a good time! Please feel free to share this news with your friends, it is really appreciated! --- Other news: An update is coming soon. I am putting a proper difficulty selection / Assist mode in the game, which will hopefully help more people to enjoy the game regardless of their skill level. On the other hand, the skilled players will still be rewarded more, in terms of achievements. I think it is fair to do it this way, so the game recognizes the efforts of people who play the game in intended difficulty. Hope you enjoy the music, see you soon! UmutUpdate v 1.0.3Dec 24, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsUpdate v 1.0.3 is here! - Now, achievements are more sensible. Instead of completing all of the same levels again, when you show enough proficiency (complete 10 levels or stars) in extra game modes (no-runner, no-magnet), you are awarded with related achievements. - Also, the only backdraw for choosing easy difficulty is only less (and different!) achievements now. You can unlock any other game modes, just like in normal difficulty. - Hidden code to unlock easy difficulty is not-so hidden in the console screen anymore, don't feel shame to use it if you have problems with difficulty! - If you completed the game without using easy difficulty, you can still get the easy-difficulty-specific-achievements by activating easy diff. and completing a random level, without the need to start a new game. - If there was a missing achievement you should have won but somehow didn't (probably because of a steam server hickup), now you should get it when you open the game and reload the related save. If there is a bug or unexpected behaviour, feel free to write in the community hub! Happy Holidays!Update 1.0.2 is hereDec 16, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHello, this is a small update that aims to fix an issue that some of our players encountered: Fixed: Stuck Gamepad If your gamepad joystick was acting like stuck in a direction when you are not using it, this nasty bug should be fixed now. Every gamepad is slightly different and it can be tricky, we put is a general solution that should cover any issue regarding this particular problem. Fixed: Stuck cursor at the start screen Well, sorry if you encountered this one! Now you should be able to play the game, but if you still encount If any bugs still persist for you, please contact us at mushyjukebox -at- gmail -dot- com, so we can look into it. Also... We made a few level adjustments in first worlds Tutorial is improved, some annoying blades removed, etc. Friendly Reminder: Please check our previous update in case you're finding the game too hard, you might find a handy tip! Enjoy! A new Update is coming! (1.0.2)Dec 15, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsFixing bugs Some of you sent us bug reports regarding sticky or non-responsive gamepad controls. I think we found the reason and hopefully we'll be able to fix those issues soon. Some tips for gameplay! This update will also have some additional pointers to tutorial levels, which will hopefully help you get used to the game in a better way. I am pretty sure this game is not as hard as some other better known platformer games, but perhaps it takes a bit more time to understand underlying mechanics, I have to admit! So don't give up! It gets much more fun as you pass levels :) You can also CHEAT .. and there is no shame in it!! Do you remember "console" on the menu? Write "cheat" on the pad at the right-side, and it will bring a window that you can turn on 3 lives per level! That way, there is only less (and different!) achievements and you won't unlock some extra levels, but you can play through the whole story that way! Have fun! Thank you for reading! - Umut"A Night at the Races" is Released! and some n-FAQ?Dec 13, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsAfter a lot of hassle, we managed to release "A Night at the Races"! That's all! Please enjoy, and don't forget to leave us a comment. Your input is important for us. Some non-frequently asked questions (but we still wanted to answer) Additionaly, I wanted to answer some possible questions that might arise in your head, after watching the trailer and looking to screenshots: Is this a game an adventure game? I wouldn't say so in terms of mechanics. But there is a story you participate in by playing as you move on in the platformer game you play. It also gives some context to things in the platformer side of things, actually. Most of your time is spent on platforming. Are there puzzles? Not really (perhaps with one small exception, and it is a very simple gateway at the start of the game). Most of the story of protagonist, is conveyed in scenes, where you click things and change rooms, like a walking simulator, but without walking. These parts are like Myst without puzzles. Can I only play platformer parts? At the start of the game, no, but story part is made in a way to be rewarding and relaxing between chaotic and tiring levels. So, I don't think this will rub people in a wrong way, hopefully. Is this game hard? It might seem very hard at first, but I believe it becomes easier when you get how things work, I promise! Also, there is a cheat / assist mode hidden in the game you can use. It is not very hidden, to be honest, but if you can't find it but want to move on to other levels, just mail us! :) (No worries, speed-runners, there is a lot of extra challenge in extra modes! I don't think it is a game you can beat easily) If you have any other questions, feel free to reach us at: mushyjukebox -at- gmail -dot- com Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy the game! Upcoming Release!Dec 9, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHello, A Night at the Races will be available on December 13th, 2019. See you soon! Embarrasing UpdateOct 18, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsDo you remember back when we announced our release date as October 22th, accompanied by some exhilaration and hilarious typos? Well, it seems like we are going to miss that date too :/ OH BOY. How could this happen? Who is responsible for this? Should we call the cops already? Well, as the only person who is working on this game, I'm surely to blame. I couldn't estimate correctly how much stuff I need to do for the release version of the game. No worries, game is completely playable, but for a definitive release-ready version, a lot of small stuff needs to be tested / revised / corrected at every step, which can be very time consuming for one person. In light of these updates, I'm really reconsidering my all time answer to the age-old question: Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses or 1 horse-sized duck? Now I can see that 100 duck-sized horses can be very scary, indeed. All kidding aside, I'm sincerely sorry if these news upset your plans in some way. I really wanted to release it, but it was simply not ready. I don't want to embarrass myself again, so I'm not going to reveal a new release date, but I still hope to release it in Fall 2019. Thank you for reading, and your understanding. Please stay with me and keep being excited! UmutRelease date update!Oct 5, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHello Everyone! If everything wents as planned, A Night at the Races will be available on October 22th. As some of you might have recognized in our trailer, I was planning to release the game in an earlier date, but my inexperience with releasing a game on steam got me. Well, moving on! We are excited, I hope you are too! See you soon!
