In the moonlight under the pink blossom - I think it's blossom - with the fireflies coasting and the lanterns - I think they're lanterns - shining from their perches. A Little Golf Journey will take you here, and early on in its campaign as well! World 2: night golfing! Blossom and fireflies! No need to worry about lost balls. No need to worry about much of anything. A Little Golf Journey is ease itself. Across its neat, low-poly landscapes, you play a streamlined game of golf that still manages to capture the game's precise pleasures and ASMR detailing. Move a little cursor around to direct your shot. Hold a trigger to stretch the shot further, but be aware that there will be more sway, more of a game of probabilities, to where the shot lands. Hold another trigger to steady your heart and battle the sway. Shoot! The rest is all detailing - move the camera about, reverse the camera - very useful this - so you can shoot from the perspective of where you want the ball to land. Knock the ball in the hole as economically as you can, and earn a bunch of stars for your performance. You'll want to look around, too. Not just because the levels are beautiful in their colourful simplicity, but because getting the ball in the hole quickly is going to mean hunting around for a path that may not immediately be apparent. Can you skip that entire corner by heading across the lake? Is it worth the risk of navigating trees, and of landing in the rough? Rough, like the bunker, removes your ability to hit out with a power shot, but maybe that's a risk worth taking? And maybe that helpful island near the green isn't purely ornamental. Then as I contemplate whether to risk a shot over the water to score a birdie, I notice a shimmering presence suspended in the air. A giant floating, practically invisible cube has appeared above the water, like if a block from Super Mario gained Predator cloaking. A quick thwack later, I've landed my golf ball on top of the cube, letting me easily snag a collectible I'll need for later levels... One of our earlier videos showing off the game, when it was just golf and no journey, caught the attention of composer Haakon Davidsen who gave us the opportunity of writing music for the game. Initially he was only going to make a couple of tracks, but with each new piece we wanted to give the game the soundtrack it deserved, which means you'll now get to enjoy 22 tracks covering a wide range of styles. The final result is one of the most soothing game soundtracks you'll ever hear that doesn't require you fighting dragons. I recently had the chance to ask Haakon a few questions to get into his mindset. What drew you to want to work on A Little Golf Journey in the first place? Actually, the first thing that amazed me about the game was the grass. It had a really playful character to it - kinda looks like someone picked grass from their garden and put it into a toy world. The levels had so many unique details to look at, it feels like an interactive painting. I could just sit and watch the scenery, it is so beautiful! One of my first thoughts was “There are so many golf games, but I have never experienced golf like this before" Does anything surprise you about A Little Golf Journey? The variety of areas really surprised me. There are these areas you would normally find in a golf game, but there are also so many more other places to explore. I have never before played golf during the winter, or at the moon. Especially not in cyberspace! What inspired you when composing the music? I drew a inspiration from a lot of things for sure, but I think the nature was my biggest inspiration source. With each track, I always imagined where it could be played. I could go like «This chord makes me think of the beach», and then I imagined myself playing it at the beach. I tried to make each song tell a story, and that was easier to to once I could place them in a setting. Did Norway factor in to your inspiration and if so, how? Norway is famous for its nature and forests. I actually live next to a forest, and would often look out the window to see if I could draw inspiration from it. The music is often very emotional at times. Did anything help bring that emotional weight? Yes, indeed. Emotions are something I often like to explore in music. With each track, I tried to imagine in what places I would either play or listen to each track. That helped me visualise how the music should sound like. And when you start thinking about that, it is easy to remember something that has happened in your life and connect the music to the emotions. Along similar lines, was there something you were trying to convey from this music? I had three main overall ideas for the soundtrack, that helped me shape everything. Th...A Little Stats JourneyAug 26, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHi golfers! It feels like we've been on our Little Golf Journey for a long time, but the end is nearly in sight now. Sorry, we can't announce a release date just yet - we will do so soon! But since we were recently able to get our first 100% playthrough of the game (completing, unlocking, and collecting everything) I thought I'd share a few stats about what you can expect from A Little Golf Journey. There are 400 stars to collect in the game. Not every star is found in a golf hole! We worked hard to round it up to a nice number. Somehow 387 stars didn't look quite as satisfying. There are 61 Blue Things to collect in the game. What is a Blue Thing? We don't know, but I'm sure they'll be useful along your journey in some way... And yes, I admit, we didn't do a great job of rounding this up to a nice number. There are 9 locations to explore and 1 secret location that you'll discover on your travels. There are 109 golf holes to play. You'll actually find more levels than that, but I don't want to spoil all the surprises yet. It took our playtesters about 15 hours to 100% the game through normal play the first time. There are 22 original compositions of music for in the game. You can expect to see a post soon all about the music! The soundtrack lasts a total of about 70 minutes. Originally we weren't going to have any music at all, so that's probably the most impressive statistic of the bunch. Thanks to Haakon for that! We have 12 achievements to complete of varying difficulty. The game is localized into 8 languages right now. There are 3 core challenge types, with some of them having variations. Our world map covers approximately 1 square kilometer of space (it looked more impressive when I initially calculated it to be 1 million square meters!). We didn't build anything to scale, though. I couldn't tell you if the golf ball is life-sized or if the trees are life-sized. There are exactly 10,764m of paths for the ball to roll along on the world map. Latest news and updates!Aug 17, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHi golfers! While we've been very busy lately, I thought I'd share with you some images from the game showing the progress we've made in one area in particular. Here you can see a couple of screenshots from the Forest of Mist, our Wales inspired location full of cobbled castles, fields of flowers, and a mist that gently kisses the lakes with a magical silvery hue! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37387380/d474f9423ee112e65e0e7936e8363be6b5751b8b.png I'm not sure what that wisp is doing in this next image. I've heard that wisps can sometimes lead people to hidden treasures... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37387380/7eb59929bdd17968e08acc32c3ad266ac5772931.png Also Haakon, our composer, has created a couple of haunting Celtic inspired melodies for this location. You can listen to one here: Fairytale by Haakon Davidsen Finally, we had a bit of recent publicity, which I can share with you in one nice handy place: It was a lot of fun to participate in the Tiny Teams festival recently, and to see our game being played in its near final state. You can check out the fun on a Twitch stream here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1114888273?t=2h19m31s We had a chance to talk about our game to Martin Robinson at Eurogamer who wrote an article about us here, which dives into the escapism of golf and what makes this game different from all the other golf games: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2021-08-12-a-little-golf-journey-strips-back-all-the-stress-of-the-sport Stacey Henley from The Gamer also wrote a piece about us here, where we talk a bit more about our journey as a studio: https://www.thegamer.com/interview-a-little-golf-journey-far-cry/ Happy golfing! Charles - OkidokicoA Little Golf PartnershipMay 20, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsWe're pleased to be able to share the news that A Little Golf Journey will be published by Playtonic Friends, the recently formed publishing label from the creators of Yooka-Laylee. They've brought along their expertise ( and love of golf ) and have been helping us bring our vision for a relaxing golf adventure game to reality. So what does this mean for the game, I hear you ask? Well, we can focus on making the game we want and can take it to the quality level it deserves. A Little Golf Journey will still have simple to play golf gameplay, beautiful art, secrets galore, and a soothing soundtrack. And we can also announce that we hope to release the game later this year, so keep checking back here for more news. We hope you get to join us on our journey once the game is out in the not too distant future. Charles - OkidokicoWater water everywhereMay 8, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsThis is one of the more technical posts, but we wanted to show you some of the new visuals for the game. Since our game is composed of dioramas we have to think about not just what's on the golf courses, but the sides as well, and we got a bit bored of staring at flat water edges for a long time so we used a parallax shader to create the illusion that there's more going on inside the water than there actually is. https://i.imgur.com/axNeO0C.gif Hopefully we'll be able to make it look even prettier before we finish the game! Charles - Okidokico https://store.steampowered.com/app/1232150/OK_Golf_HD/New Overworld VisualsMay 1, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHi everyone! We've been taking the time to make sure that every blade of grass is in just the right place, not just in the courses, but in the overworld too. If you played the demo you might remember it ( in fact, you can still see the old art in our gallery if you look before we update it! ) So here's the new look for our overworld and the new effects when you bring colour back into the world... https://i.imgur.com/I356vUg.gif We'll show more of the overworld as we work on it, but it's shaping up beautifully. Don't forget to wishlist us! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1232150/OK_Golf_HD/ Charles - OkidokicoFebruary news.Feb 22, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsFirstly, a thank-you to everyone who checked out our game during the Steam festival, whether you played the demo, wishlisted us, streamed us, or simply wanted to see what this little game is about. It was great to see how much people liked our game. Secondly, here's a small progress update from us. We've been working on our winter location and here's a sneak peak of the winter wonderland. We've been staring out of our windows at nothing but snow for the last 2 months and the icicles just continue to get bigger and bigger! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/37387380/49ec9110cb3402aaa793fb26f92c62f6be90058c.png I'm hoping that the next location we work on will be warmer. Thanks! Charles - Okidokico
