Steel Circus

Have you played Steel Circus?Mar 2, 2020 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunHave You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time. There’s a handful of films at home that the family and I very rarely end up watching. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The Revenant. The Imitation Game. Her. The Judge. Absolutely outstanding films, but they’re also what we call “heavy” – and we seldom have the emotional energy to sit through two hours of “heaviness” at the end of a long day. So we pretty much never bite the bullet and say “You know what? Let’s finally do this.” Today, I’m biting the bullet. I’m gonna talk about something that makes me very sad to think about. It’s a game called Steel Circus, and last month the developers bit their own bullet, shut down the servers, and pulled the plug on their dying game. Which is such a gruelling shame, because Steel Circus was probably the most fun I’ve had in any competitive game since Rocket League. (more…) New Champion, Pixel Avatars, New Stamina System and More! Feedback is - as usual - highly appreciated and welcome DETAILS: New Champion: Kenny Zhu {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34041122/1fe554bf004427fba80aa6adef34f4564756d03c.jpg Kenny is a 21-year-old good looking daredevil who likes nothing more than competition and risk-taking. His skills allow him to perform rapid positional changes making him especially dangerous for counter plays. Afterburner Kenny activates his engines to propel himself forward while leaving a fiery trail behind. Opponents touching the flames take damage. Air Strike Kenny takes off like a rocket flying up high in the air, to strike down anywhere on the playfield shortly after. Opponents near the impact are pushed back. Gameplay Changes We are introducing a few changes to the overall balance of the champions as well as the core gameplay of SC. Before there are any specifics a few words about the reasoning and motivation behind those changes: We always envisioned SC as a game focused on teamplay positioning and movement, we also wanted it to be a fast-paced game with constant tactical decision making. There are a few features we were...Bug Fixes and the Fright Pack! Patch Details 0.7.3Oct 9, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsChampions, Once again we are coming to you with new features, some changes and more bug fixes on Thursday, October 10 at 14:00 PM CEST / 08:00 AM EDT / 05:00 AM PDT! Estimated downtime: 2-4 hours Along with implementing the postponed feature to start the match with B0ts if there are not enough players in the queue, we are also adding a few more things to make sure you are able to enjoy Steel Circus even more! Features: • Twitch integration Display twitch username option Display number of viewers in-game during a live stream • Overtime - if the regular match ends in a draw, the match goes into overtime, and a “golden goal” rule will apply here. • 4-6 player Quickmatch, with up to 2 B0ts • The floor will display which pickup is about to spawn 5 seconds before it spawns • Custom match B0ts difficulty settings Gameplay: • Camera tweaks • Ball pick up radius increase at very low ball movement speed Balancing: • Cap’s turret movement speed slightly reduced • Shani’s ‘Lightning Strike’ AOE and pushback slightly increased when teleporting Bug Fixes: • Fixed a bug where Schröder couldn’t do anything anymore after being hit by Galena’s ‘Discontinuity’ while using his ‘Virtual Strike’ • Websocket win 7 fix • Bandwidth reduction • Reduced a bunch of FPS drops during gameplay • Fixed Shani’s ‘Lightning Strike’ stun duration and pushback • Fixed Pickup items spawn time display Roadmap: • See our high-level roadmap here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteelCircus/comments/cpdvl5/early_access_roadmap/ Details Basic Twitch Integration The first step of Twitch integration allows you to link your game account with your Twitch account, which in turn will let you display your Twitch username during matches, rather than your Steam username. The second feature is still somewhat experimental, but its goal is as follows: if one of the Twitch-integrated players is live streaming, the game will display how many people are watching their stream. Note: should you want to opt into both of these features, they will become available after you’ve linked your account. Overtime If the clock runs out on a match that’s final score is a Draw, the game will go into overtime instead. Overtime starts with a regular kick-off - akin to the initial match start - and lasts for 2 minutes. The first goal shot during overtime decides who won (the “golden goal” rule). If no goal is scored during overtime, then the match ends in a draw. Additionally, players can not surrender during Overtime. 4-6 Player Quickmatch Quickmatch is now supporting 4 to 6 players instead of just 6 players. If there are not enough players for a 3 versus 3 match in the queue, the matchmaking will automatically start the match with 4 or 5 players, and the remaining slots will be filled by B0ts. New Pickup Spawn Display 5 seconds before a Pickup spawns, the color of the floor display will change to indicate which exact Pickup will spawn. Custom Match Bot Difficulty Settings Currently, there are three bot difficulty levels avail...Double Exp WeekendSep 27, 2019 - Community Announcements{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/34041122/4791d04541f3430258566e8a270ab6b349640259.png Good news everyone! Patch details 0.7.2Sep 26, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsChampions, More features and bug fixes are coming in on Friday, September 27 at 2:00 PM CEST / 08:00 AM EDT / 05:00 AM PDT. Estimated downtime is: 2-4 hours In this week after listening to your feedback we have focused on balancing characters. Also, following your request, we have added an option to add AI Bots to your custom matches! But wait, there's more! This weekend Sat, September 28 to Mon, September 30 we will be DOUBLING all experience you gain by playing your matches (Double Exp Weekend)! We hope to meet you at our arenas! Features: • Tutorial Re-work • New onboarding flow for new players • Surrender option • Custom matches now support AI Bots • New community Tutorial Balancing: • Lochlan - Slam AOE range and push pushback reduced, Warsong slow increase • Shani - Lightning strike no longer deals damage, AOE reduced • Acrid - Rampage slight movement speed increase and slight collider decrease, Putrid Discharge pushback increase for direct hits • Cap-x02 - Barrier duration and length of the barrier increase, Artillery strike aiming speed increase, AOE slight decrease, time to transition in an out of turret mode reduced • Schröder - Virtual Strike initial movement speed increased • General: 2 and 3-star ball throw champs had their max throw distance reduced • Decision: ball throw charge reset after dodge stays for the foreseeable future Roadmap: • See our high-level roadmap here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteelCircus/comments/cpdvl5/early_access_roadmap/ Details New Onboarding The tutorial has been reworked completely and happens in two major steps called Basic Tutorial and Advanced Tutorial. The Basic Tutorial now focuses on teaching new players the basics like it used to and additionally explains and teaches special skills and pickups. The second step, Advanced Tutorial is a 2 versus 2 match against a rather weak tutorial AI. The player needs to complete both steps in order to unlock Quick Match, Custom Match, and Free Training. Free training is essentially the “old” playground without any tutorial. Here players can test out each champion, even the ones which are not unlocked. After a new player has completed their first Quick Match they will be rewarded with 3000 Steel and the unlocking of Daily Challenges. The 3k Steel reward replaces the initial Steel amount each new player account starts with. These changes will only affect new players who log into the first time after the release of update 0.7.2 Surrender Players can start a surrender vote for their team to end the match early. The surrender option becomes available after half of the regular match time has passed, currently at 2:30. For the surrender vote to pass the whole team needs to vote in favor of surrender. A match that ends via surrender is counted as “lost” for the team that surrendered no matter the score. Both teams receive their XP aliquot to the passed match time. Surrender does not trigger the leaver penalty. Custom Match Bots Players can now play with bots both as team ...New Champion, AI Bots and more! 0.7.1 Patch DetailsSep 15, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsChampions, After weeks of balancing, fixing core issues and releasing most of the highly requested features from our amazing community we are excited to announce our first update with a new champion! Steel Circus teamUpdates on EULA and Known IssuesAug 9, 2019 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34041122/a0c79062d2ab016a74b9f45d3c98f08df530784e.jpg Hello all, We'd like to thank everyone who has joined us on the first day of our Early Access! We've received an incredible response from all over the world and with this being the first time we've been able to welcome players from around the world, we are thankful for all of your feedback, suggestions, and concerns. We're hard at work every day improving the game for all players. As our first 24 hours has passed, we'd like to update you of the major known issues which we're working on: 1) About the EULA – we launched with a standard boilerplate EULA which unfortunately wasn't quite written the way we'd hoped. We most definitely understand your concern and WE HAVE NO INTENTION OF AUTOMATICALLY DELETING INACTIVE PLAYERS or your progression and content from our database. We have updated the EULA to reflect that and have removed the offending text. Many apologies for the confusion. 2) We are aware of how much it sucks that players are bouncing mid-game. We’re actively working on ways to address this issue and hope to get changes rolled out ASAP. 3) We have noticed a handful of players who are receiving “Login Expired” messages while attempted to launch the game. We are working on this issue as well and it's a very high priority on our list to fix. 4) Some players, especially on Asian servers, are seeing failed placements into matching, resulting in the failed matchmaking error. Again, we’re actively working on improving this issue as well. 5) Matchmaking - we continue to look at issues with matchmaking where players timeout or are unable to connect during matchmaking, which causes everyone else in the match to get kicked from the match queue. We're extremely sorry to those of you who have experienced some of the above issues and know that we're extremely grateful for all of the excitement the first 24 hours of our early access. Again, thank you for playing and helping us to improve Steel Circus! For upcoming updates, please stay tuned! Steel Circus teamSteel Circus Early Access is Live!Aug 8, 2019 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/34041122/a0c79062d2ab016a74b9f45d3c98f08df530784e.jpg The long wait is over! We’d like to thank our amazing community who helped us a lot during closed tests, actively participating in developing Steel Circus. During Early Access, we will keep improving the game along with adding new champions, arenas and customization items. Our long-term goal is to feature 15+ champions along with 6+ arenas. We see Early Access as an important phase where our focus is to listen, observe, verify and analyze gameplay data in order to make the game more fun to play. Your opinion is highly appreciated and we’d love if you join our community on Discord and let us know about your thoughts! What to expect from the Early Access? The core gameplay and game loop are implemented but we will continue polishing the game through Early Access. At the moment, Early Access features; - 6 Champions - 2 Arenas, each arena offers different variations - Quickmatch Mode - Training Mode - More than 150+ customization options Known Issues; Sometimes, when trying to group up and canceling it again, the quickmatch button does not react. Ingame Options menu disappears, when remapping menu was opened in the main menu. The ingame music doesn’t stop if the match ends prematurely, e.g.due to a disconnect, error, etc. If the matchmaking times out, the UI will continue to indicate queueing. That is not correct. Queueing up again will still work, even if the UI does not change. Restarting the game or playing a match resolves the issue. The game is likely to crash on game exit. Some pop-ups cannot be confirmed with controller. With some controllers plugged in (e.g. Switch Pro, XBox One) the button icons in the menu remain empty Acrid’s Putrid Discharge sometimes does not hit other champions when it should. Many more skill related bugs in special cases Ping has no SFX Champions are stuck in their last animation at match end Rarely no MVP is shown after a match Will my Early Access progression carry over to the full game? Yes, we will keep all the data and your profile will carry over to the full game. How long will Early Access last for? It’s hard to say anything exact at the moment, but our initial plan is to come out of Early Access in 2020. How can I stay up to date? Yours, Iron Mountain Interactive & Oasis GamesSteel Circus is a free-to-play future sport coming to Early Access in AugustJul 2, 2019 - PC GamerI only care about future sports—give me neon and robots and a reckless disregard for health and safety regulations. Steel Circus appears to have all of that. It's a sci-fi sport that tosses two teams of three into an arena to duke it out and score some goals all in an effort to maintain peace throughout the solar system. Noble! It's coming to Steam Early Access next month, but first you can watch the launch cinematic above.  Unlike boring contemporary sports, Steel Circus' athletes scoff at the idea of uniforms, and rather than having positions, their two unique abilities make them more like MOBA or RPG classes. Support characters can buff and heal, long-range characters can whittle down their foes, and brawlers can wade over to the opposition and start smashing skulls. Since the launch trailer doesn't show off any in-game footage, here's another with some match highlights: There are some Monday Night Combat vibes, which takes me back, and of course Rocket League looms over just about every ball game, though aside from the ricocheting the similarities here seem pretty superficial. Maybe I just want to see it, but is there just a hint of the criminally underappreciated Frozen Cortex in there, too?  It's real-time and pretty brisk, but it's not all action and speed. It's tactical as well as fast-paced, according developer Iron Mountain Interactive. When it's finished, there will be 15+ characters, introducing different playstyles and abilities, and you'll need to figure out how to take advantage of your two teammates' skills as well as your own. When it launches in Early Access, however, you'll only need to get a handle on six of them. The plan is to launch with two arenas, each with different layouts and environmental quirks, and more will be introduced across Early Access, along with new characters and customisation features. The focus is on the "core competitive game mode" at the moment, but more modes will be added during development.  It's free to play, but a premium bundle will be available that gives you all the characters, as well as supporter packs and unique cosmetics. There won't be any advantages for sale, however, and Iron Mountain promises that you won't have to open any loot boxes.  Steel Circus is due out on Steam Early Access on August 8.
