In the meantime, I have a little documentary with the wonderful voice of Rachel August. Have a great watch! My Friends Game - Hank: StraightjacketFeb 7, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone! As solo dev, I sometimes stumble upon games that are also made by small teams, and I wish to help as much as it is possible, please have a look and let me know if you like it. So.. My friends created this 'micro' adventure game. It’s about a vigilante with time powers trying to survive and It's now available on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2277670/Hank_Straightjacket/ Let me pass it on to Kuba - the game’s programmer - so he can tell you the story behind the game: Hey, everybody! Kuba from My Next Games here. How’s everyone doing in the new year? For us it’s been busy. Last month, we’ve won a for a video game prototype! (I’m the guy in brown pants in the photo) {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43507426/0be4921a44d2d1af3bfa265759a034a1da274408.jpg The competition was organized by CRPK Poland and we entered it with a proposal for a small point-and-click game - Hank: Straightjacket. Here’s the story of how this little adventure game came to be: We were about to start working on a new dialog system for our main project - Hank: Drowning on Dry Land - and we wanted it to be a bit different. In a regular game when the conversation starts the game pauses - you talk to the character and you’re basically unable to do anything else. We want to change this and allow players to interact with the world while still in dialogue. There are some challenges that stem from that approach, though. What happens if the player does something noteworthy during the conversation? Wouldn’t it feel strange if the hero broke a piece of furniture and the npc didn't react to it? We had some ideas on how to tackle those problems but we couldn’t be sure they would work without trying them out in an actual game. And so we went on a rapid prototyping spree… {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43507426/f795d7b8e8dc01c2d8dbdbabcb2bd19d58054be2.gif …Two weeks and five gallons of coffee later we finally had a build and a working prototype of the system. As a side effect we created this tiny escape room experience. We were quite surprised that it was even playable! So, we called it Hank: Straightjacket and decided to release it as a free game. If you’d like to - giving it a go! Hope you guys enjoy it and if you’re interested in more Hank’s adventure here the link to Hank: Drowning on Dry Land: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1937880/Hank_Drowning_On_Dry_Land/ Cya Around, Kuba Pad Controller Update is here!Sep 8, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHey everyone! All the best, Tomasz OstafinIGF Excellence in Visual ArtMar 24, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone! When I started working on the game, as a joke I created a folder for the making-of videos named "the road to IGF". I think, it's as if the director named his folder 'the road to the Oscars' 😅 It was supposed to be funny but .. I don't know how it happened, Papetura, my little imperfect game, started collecting awards at various festivals. It dared me to submit the game to the Independent Games Festival in San Francisco, a nomination came, and last night ... a win in the Excellence in Visual Art category. I did not expect that, especially since I am far from being a good gamedev, and there are a lot of great games. Congratulations to all nominees and thank you all for your support, and to the Independent Games Festival for the award. Dreams do come true sometimes.. A little discount to celebrate! https://store.steampowered.com/app/593640/Papetura/ Cheers Everyone, TomaszDaily Deal and IGF Nomination!Feb 19, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone!! Something unbelievable happened, Papetura has been nominated for Excellence in Visual Art at Independent Games Festival Awards in San Francisco. Few years ago it was a running joke for me that the game will be shown at IGF, and somehow it made it to the festival for real. Wish me luck guys! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/e0e32a6e4cae17978fd6dedda350dc0b99595d48.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/5a3da566be9f502548af01718ada085a645e722c.jpg Also for the first time, Papetura is on Daily Deal -30% on Steam website, I hope it will do well with wider audience. Have a great weekend! TomaszAwards, Upcoming Update and Winter SaleDec 26, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, Awards! Since the release, many of you asked why the game hasn't got any awards. The main goal was to move the game to the latest version of the engine, and by doing this, resolve many issues with game not running properly. This was also an opportunity to improve many things in Papetura, from visuals to audio, I went over everything one more time. Here it is, the changelog: - Game engine update - fixed issue with Citrix drivers collision, and possibility to more precisely diagnose crashes. - Improved/fixed some visuals, animations and sounds. - Image is more crisp, reduced chromatic aberration a little bit. - Added characters reactions to projectile hits. - Increased player walk speed over longer distances. - Monster chase puzzle is getting easier with more tries. - Dropped support for all 32bit MacOS (due to engine update) - Other minor bugs & fixes {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/36b275b3391aa71d587017e214bed8cf9ebc9b2d.png Have a good time playing or replaying the game! Warm Welcome and Upcoming UpdatesJun 21, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, It's been a month since the game's release, so it's time for some news! How has the game been received, how are sales going, and what is the future of Papetura? Release Let me start with a Big Thank You to everyone, because the game was very warmly received by you. Summing up, Papetura turned out to be a nice, interesting experience, but quite short with flaws. Waiting for your reviews was terrifying, I knew that I am not a game design master and I still have a lot to learn. In the end, I was very surprised and comforted that most of the players liked the game. I read all your comments and I know that some things I can still improve, but unfortunately some of them I will not able to. I think the whole experience of designing, developing and publishing the game was amazing. Many years have passed and I have learned quite a lot, I met many interesting and passionate people. On the other hand, it's good that the release of the game is behind me, it was really a crazy idea.. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/b1a608acad7432561735900b9e2908fc563cc87b.png Upcoming Update I am currently improving some of Papetura gameplay elements, those that are unclear or could be made better. As for bugs, there were some and I'm still looking for them. Thanks to you, in the first week, we uncovered some important ones! The game requires an update of the game engine, so script by script I move them over to a newer version to remove errors from the old engine. I have tremendous need to get rid of every bug in the game, so hopefully I can do it. Artbook And Soundtrack At the same time, I'm working on an artbook, collecting all the materials I have, sketches, photos and screenshots. It will be arranged reasonably so that you can see how everything was created and how many things weren't used in the game. Such an artbook with a soundtrack will soon be available as a DLC for purchase on Steam! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/c85454b0b134128e2992174defd2bfdaa8aaf86f.png Sales When I was creating a game, year after year, I stopped calculating how much profit it would bring. I realized why I make Papetura and why it is not worth counting on a lot of money when making such an personal and experimental game. I thought it would be a great success if the game would sold 10,000 copies in one year. I am pleased to tell you that the game is on the right track to get such a result! During the first and most important week, 6,500 players bought the game! Which sounds promising for the coming year. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/f3d3f535e9d3d8c8a4d85082c19cb69db240d84a.png Future In addition to the updates and the artbook, I also work on the Switch port for Papetura. My devkit has arrived so I'll try my hand at getting the game up and running on Switch! Also, who know what future will bring.. Maybe another game? Thanks again for such a warm welcome! I will try to make better and better games!Save your pretty paper home from flames in handcrafted PapeturaMay 10, 2021 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunGames whose various bits are made by hand in physical space before they enter digispace continue to be a delight. Papercrafted adventure game Papetura is out now and it looks absolutely lovely, as do the gorgeous paper sculptures that were built to construct its world. Read more Paper is Alive! Papetura is Released!May 8, 2021 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone, After 6 years of development Papetura is finally out! From the start I want to thank you all for the patience and support Gluing and Cutting - Development UpdateNov 15, 2020 - Community AnnouncementsHi everyone! It's been a while since last update, and I have many news to share with you all! The Demo First demo of Papetura was released on Summer Steam Festival! I decided not to take it down after the festival, so you can try it out anytime. We can call it 'short experience' for now, as it is very short, but you can feel the atmosphere of the paper world.. The whole game won't be that short, please don't worry! I've recently speedrun the game and it took 70min, so usual play-through should take around 2h or more. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/b3053c7cd94491d28799413fd5329f022654d843.jpg Realese Date Unfortunately, Papetura will be delayed a little bit.. Mostly due to delays in development, that are dependent on my well being - as I'm the one making the game, there is no chance for someone to take over. I was also overwhelmed by my main job that I live from, but decided that making the game should be priority for now. There is a little bit more to do, so together with Floex, we decided that the safest release date will be February '21. I'm sorry to all of you that are tired of waiting for the game! Development First of all, I'm noob when it comes to game industry, but hopefully many people are willing to help and give some advice, so that way the development is moving forward without big mistakes - except of course - dreadful delays. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/076b986e22add29e7621d788f7889908b65d4cab.jpg Second of all, saying about the things I might be better at - making the paper model. It's going very well, and I will have it done in the next month. After that I'll focus only on polishing the gameplay, cause I have all of the prototype build already! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/6a05730ff4cd71232a254d84091fa06fe1c72bda.jpg{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/42295691b31970fcf7b2ec2b9146bc02d0c290be.jpg Final thing, that makes the paper-world comes to life is music, and from what I've listened to will be very special. Among tracks, there are two that make me cry, and one that cheer me up! Tomas Dvorak is influencing the game in big and positive way, so great thanks to him! Thank you for your patience! TomaszRelease Date!Dec 26, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsI'm sorry to announce to you all that the game release will be delayed to Summer 2020! It wasn't planned, but the production went a little bit sideways, and the game needs more work to be most enjoyable and beautiful.. As we are a small team, Floex making the soundtrack, Juraj Mravec making SFX, and me doing visuals and programming, we have decided it would be the best to delay the release date rather than presenting you with the game that isn't yet finished. To be honest with you, this game is being made with passion and no big money is at stake, so we have no pressure to release something that we are not yest satisfied with.. I'm very sorry and apologize everyone for inconvenience! I hope you understand, and ask you for a little bit more patience, See you soon in the next update!Paper Moves... Begins To Live!Sep 10, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHi Everyone! A month has passed since Papetura showed up on Steam, so it's the best time to sum up how we are doing, and what's up in the development! Ok, let's begin with some achievements unlocked that I'm very happy to share: Over 2000 Wishlists and 350 followers! That one is on you! I'm very grateful for your wishlisting, helping me out in many different ways to spread the word and reach wider audience! Big thanks for all of you! There is still long road ahead but, that's a great start. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/c1c050029a34199bf9c2f7e684ee568c0b742d25.gif New levels and progress How the development of this game would look like was mysterious to me, but it's basically like: making things as you go. I thought that's the wrong way, but apparently this is how most of indie adventure games are made :D. In the picture above, please meet Flaming Bird, just chilling because I'm working on animating it right now. But please not be fooled, that's quite a furious creature, not chill AT ALL. Papetura in Press Many lovely editors and developers were so kind to share and write about Papetura on their portals, I couldn't be more grateful! There is also a new interview that I would like to share with you: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/35591478/8cc10f00250084e9e95f183ccfe896ee67d45772.jpg Interview with GOFIG, A coffee break where I share some insights of making the game and much more: A Coffee Break with: Tomasz Ostafin, Papetura See you soon!
