Magical or plain bad. Some indie developers chose the latter with a Myst FPS remix that spoofed the senior adventure game. The RPS readership seemed split on the subject when we asked "Have You Played Myst?" years ago. But Humble Games leans toward the former as it’s choosing to celebrate the classic's whopping 30th birthday with a returning charity bundle, available now until August 3rd. The Humble Myst & More Bundle packages the titular point-and-clicker, alongside several other sequels, spiritual successors, and odd offshoots from developer Cyan Worlds. You can pay anything over £7.80/$10 for the 11-game bundle, or you can pay at least £15.60/$20 to also grab the Myst remake from 2021. Cyan Worlds loves a good re-release, and this latest bundle is a reminder of how many Mysts have Mysted over the years. There’s Myst: Masterpiece Edition which remasters the music and imagery, and is otherwise as close to the original as you can get. Then there’s realMyst: Masterpiece Edition which added changing weather, day-night cycles, free roam movement, and a bonus epilogue. And finally, there’s the most recent pretty remake that’s also compatible with VR. Read more Cyan's newest game Firmament is NOW AVAILABLE!May 18, 2023 - Community AnnouncementsThe day has arrived... This week, you can grab Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead and Ironcast, and as ever, Epic has revealed next week's freebie, too. We're getting another twofer, with adventure game Obduction and the economic strategy game Offworld Trading company. You'll be able to grab Obduction and Offworld Trading Company from the usual Epic Games Store promotion page on Thursday, June 15 at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 4pm BST. It'll be there for one full week, at which point it'll be replaced by another freebie. As always, you'll 'purchase' the game at a price of zero dollars, and it'll remain in your library just like any game you might pay money for. Obduction is a successor to Myst, from that classic adventure's original developers at Cyan. Offworld Trading Company has its own classic pedigree, as development on the Martian economic RTS was led by Soren Johnson, the lead designer of Civ 4. Read the rest of the story... After quite a bit of discussion, looking at our options, and finding out what we could do with the small amount of time and resources we have, we've come to the conclusion that we'll have to disable support for HDR for the time being. We'll post an update with news if or when we're able to revisit this issue. Thanks everyone. What graphics card do I need for HDR and what PC games support it?Oct 30, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun HDR on PC hasn’t improved much in 2019. Despite there being more HDR gaming monitors than ever before, the very s for HDR continue to be quite expensive compared to non-HDR monitors, and the situation around Windows 10 support for it is still a bit of a mess. However, provided you’re willing to fight through all that, then the next step on your path to high dynamic range glory is to get an HDR compatible graphics card. Below, you’ll find a complete list of all the Nvidia and AMD graphics cards that have built-in support for HDR, as well as everything you need to know about getting one that also supports Nvidia and AMD’s own HDR standards, G-Sync Ultimate and FreeSync 2. I’ve also put together a list of all the PC games that support HDR as well, so you know exactly which PC games you can start playing in high dynamic range. Reported issues addressed in this patch are as follows: Improvements made: Fixed issue that caused you to strafe and turn in VR Free Move mode. Fixed the large stone stair sphere in Hunrath. It now rotates as expected. Controller note: In Teleportation mode, both left and right controllers can be used for turning. In Free Move mode, only the right controller will turn. Known issues: If you run into an issue where you cannot move, you need to delete your Input.ini file and run the game again. This file is located at... Windows: %LocalAppData%\Obduction\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Obduction/MacNoEditor (Use Command+G to type in the path.) When using smooth motion input with Windows Mixed Reality motion controls, a movement ‘drift’ can occur. We’ve found this is a common problem. If this happens, open up the SteamVR Input configuration for Obduction and add a dead zone to the left joystick “move” input. Obduction 1.8.0 Update released!Aug 1, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsHey Everyone! Here it is, our long-awaited update with so many fixes, tweaks, and improvements, I don’t know where to start! Our crew has been working long and hard on this update, so we hope you all enjoy it. Feel free to peruse our release notes here, we do have a couple of issues of note still. And as always, if you find any new issues we didn’t catch, feel free to contact our support and we’ll get it noted. Thanks again to all of our fans! Version 1.8.0 Release Notes: New to Obduction: UE4 upgrade to 4.21.2 New saved game path location for Mac users - this change is being handled by the UE4 engine and not Apple's macOS (*see additional notes below). Save games and config files are now stored in: library/applicationsupport/epic/obduction Performance improvements VR Improvements: Ability to backstep while using VR teleport Index and Index Controller support added Windows Mixed Reality (via SteamVR) support added Turkish localization added Known Issues: In some circumstances the game may require a restart in order to apply graphics quality settings changes. e.g. If you have ‘Low’ settings applied at launch and change them to ‘Epic’ the game will require a restart in order to apply the changes When using a SteamVR device (Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, etc) the first time a user enters the minecart they may find themselves facing backwards. We’ve attempted a fix for it, but it caused more problems than it solved. User should be able to turn in the minecart and face forward with no issues. Windows Mixed Reality headsets: A crash can occur if the headset is unplugged, fully powered off, etc. during gameplay Under some conditions with certain WMR headsets, the laser pointer will not take effect on the main menu, forcing the user to point with the headset and select the menu entry with the main button on the wand. Once in game, the input will correct itself. Ambient occlusion differences in each eye visible in some areas: Under some conditions, a difference in shadows and lighting can be noticed in each eye in some VR headsets. Mac OS Catalina (beta) may exhibit unusually long pauses and stuttering video playback. *MacOS Users: Due to changes in how and where save files are written to disk, once the game has been run after receiving the update, your save files will no longer be available in an older release. Users who choose to roll back to the previous release will need to manually move the files back to the original save location. Your original save file location can differ between two locations depending on OS release and when the directory was created: ~/Library/Containers/com.cyan.obduction/Data/Library/Application Support/Epic/Obduction/Saved/SaveGames or ~/Library/Application Support/Epic/Obduction/SaveGames Myst dev's surreal sci-fi adventure Obduction is currently free on GOGMay 31, 2019 - EurogamerIf you're in the market for a good, solid freebie - and I assume you are, given that you've already read the headline - then you've come to the right place. Myst developer Cyan Worlds' enjoyable sci-fi mystery adventure Obduction is currently free on GOG until tomorrow, 1st June. Obduction released back in 2016, and is very much a spiritual successor to Cyan Worlds' seminal Myst and Riven series, featuring the same kind of low-key, open-ended meandering and oblique puzzle solving, in a surreal, strikingly designed alien world. And the good news is that it does a lot of stuff right, with a strong story premise (which I won't spoil), a pitch-perfect atmosphere - absolutely nailing the sense of wonder and isolation - and conundrums that are, for the most part, logical and immensely satisfying once you finally tease out a solution from the subtle environmental clues. Do be warned, however, that the whole thing comes to a crashing halt about two thirds of the way through with a truly godawful sequence of trial-and-error puzzles that constantly force you between locations, leading to endless loading screens and an increasing sense of despair. Read more Obduction free for keepsies in the GOG summer saleMay 30, 2019 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun Though summer is weeks away, DRM-free digital games store GOG today kicked off their summer sale. So people will go along with this ridiculous ‘summer’ charade, they’re bribing us all with a free copy of Obduction, the latest explore-o-puzzler from Myst developers Cyan Worlds. Don’t worry, pals: if you squint you can still click the button for a freebie without sullying yourself with false summer. Oh, also, loads of video games are discounted right now because it’s a sale, yeah? (more…)
