Regarding Bots in Lost ArkMay 13, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHeroes of Arkesia, We know that bots have been causing frustration within the community, and we share in that frustration. Over the past few months we’ve made a number of changes to Lost Ark in order to combat bots. We know that there’s still work to do, and we want to share some detail on how we’re approaching this ongoing issue so we can give Lost Ark players a better experience. Since Lost Ark launched, we’ve been fighting a war against the bots infiltrating Arkesia. Addressing bots can be especially challenging in free-to-play games because it’s so easy to create an account and enter the game, but we’re working on multiple fronts to fight them. Here are some of the measures we’ve taken so far: Permanently banned several million accounts that participated in botting, hacking, or gold selling. Level-gated area chat to keep brand-new accounts from spamming gold-selling advertisements. Actively updated the game’s automatic chat moderation with lines and phrases that we know are commonly used by gold sellers. Changed the reward structures of quests and events to add a stronger deterrent against using bots to farm gold. Updated and improved Easy Anti Cheat detection capabilities to better identify and act against bots. Enabled a native detection system to help quickly identify bad actors and take action against them. Improved reporting tools in-game to help our players report bots and our support staff act more quickly on reports. Blocked IP from regions where we do not have publishing rights that have shown large amounts of bot activity. Blocked VPNs to stop bad actors from working around IP bans. While each of these tactics has shown some measure of success in removing bots from the game, our work is far from over. We can’t share all the details, because we don’t want to help bot users more easily adapt to our tactics, but we’re working closely with Easy Anti Cheat to improve their support of Lost Ark and with Smilegate RPG to improve the native bot detection system, while tuning events and rewards to prevent or remove paths for bot abuse. We’re also exploring new ways to help combat bots natively at scale. We’ve heard some questions from the community about tools like Captcha or two-factor authentication. These tools would require sizeable platform and architectural changes to implement in Lost Ark. Real-world account owner identification is another method used in some regions, but the global scale of the Western version of the game and varying laws in the territories where we operate Lost Ark make this a less realistic solution for us. We’re continuing to explore our options for additional tools that are scalable and could make a significant impact. As we continue our quest to rid Arkesia of bots, we are also conscious of possible pain points some of these measures might cause for our players, and are working to balance this. We appreciate your patience as we continue working to bring the best possible Lost Ark experience to our players. May 13 HotfixMay 12, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsAll Lost Ark servers and regions will be coming down for a hotfix tonight, on May 13 at 12 AM PT / 7 AM UTC / 9 AM CEST. Expected downtime is approximately 5 hours. This hotfix includes infrastructure improvements that are necessary to deploy ahead of next week’s May Content Update. Thank you for your patience, and we’ll see you in Arkesia soon!Lost Ark May roadmap reveals the Destroyer, Valtan Legion Raid, and more coming soonMay 9, 2022 - VG247The May Roadmap for Lost Ark has just been released through an official blog post, and details the incoming arrival of the Destroyer advanced Subclass, Valtan Legion Raid, Deskaluda Guardian Raid and more later this month. While no specific dates for each of these are given, the introduction to the blog implies some of the challenging PvE content will be landing during the later weeks. The post states: “After closely monitoring alongside Smilegate RPG, we feel that enough of our player base has reached the item level needed to participate (or is within easy striking distance to get there over the next few weeks) and have decided this is the right time for these activities to enter the western shores of Arkesia.” One of the premier additions coming to the game in May is The Destroyer, a super heavy melee fighter joining the Berserker, Paladin, and Gunlancer as warrior subclasses available to all players. This class is all about swinging about your giant hammer, dealing massive damage to foes up close and shifting them around with powerful crowd control abilities. It's an MMO hack-and-slasher which made its enormously popular western debut earlier this year, but which has been out in South Korea since 2019. That means that there's a wealth of already existing endgame content that its developers need to decide when its appropriate to bring across to the western release. They have decided that time is: this month. Read more Destined For Destruction - May Update RevealMay 6, 2022 - Community AnnouncementsHeroes of Arkesia, In last month’s April & May Roadmap, we gave a first look at what you could expect in May’s major update. In that article, we discussed our approach of monitoring player progression and feedback to find the correct release timing for more end-game content, such as the Valtan Legion Raid and the Deskaluda Guardian Raid. After closely monitoring alongside Smilegate RPG, we feel that enough of our player base has reached the item level needed to participate (or is within easy striking distance to get there over the next few weeks) and have decided this is the right time for these activities to enter the western shores of Arkesia. It is never our goal for players to feel they need to pay to progress, and players who haven’t reached the item levels required to participate shouldn’t feel pressured— continue to enjoy the journey of exploration and challenging yourself at your own pace. For newer players eager to hit the high levels required to participate in end-game activities, we hope that the Express Event Missions and extension of the Guardian Raid Event to May 19 will help you progress while still teaching the vast variety of mechanics and game modes in Lost Ark. As existing fans of Lost Ark know, there are still many new activities, challenges, enemies, and more that have yet to be released, and we can’t wait to bring more experiences to Arkesia. We’re excited to introduce the first Legion Raid this month and can’t wait to witness your battles against this legendary foe. With that, let’s dive into the content arriving in May. LEGION RAID - VALTAN (NORMAL & HARD MODES) https://images.ctfassets.net/umhrp0op95v1/4rDmYbt6rK8YGwihsQpxdZ/5816a381539d8038ba3ee352a065933c/episode_Valtan_08_1920x1080.jpg Valtan will introduce the first Legion Raid into the western version of Lost Ark. Legion Raids are difficult team-based activities that require teamwork to understand and execute the strategy necessary to counter each Legion Commander's unique characteristics, abilities, and mechanics. As Legion Raids are challenging and take time, there are gates (or checkpoints) that will save player's progress as they advance through the Raid. Valtan is an eight-player Legion raid, has 2 gates, and introduces a swathe of new mechanics. Players will need to be item level 1415 to attempt normal difficulty, and 1445 for hard. The Valtan Legion Raid will also introduce a new rarity for gear - “Relic”. Relic gear can be crafted from materials earned in the raid. It provides more impactful armor and weapon bonuses, alongside bigger stat bonuses and more engraving nodes on accessories. Downtime is estimated to last up to 7 hours due to backend changes. This week’s update will also include the following fixes: Unlocking a character slot will no longer decrease the remaining number of available purchases for Character Slot Expansion tickets. Players that previously could not unlock all their character slots due to this bug will now see the correct remaining count. Fixed several broken entries in the emoticon list. Fixed an issue where the Feiton Powerpass could not be used if various World quests on preceding continents had not been completed. Players will be able to use the Powerpass as long as the Feiton quest “Will” has been completed. Fixed an exploit with the Rapport system. Please note that the weekly reset will still happen at the usual time, on Thursday at 3 AM PT / 10 AM UTC / 12 PM CEST. We are still working through finalizing and testing the game build for our May Content Update. We are planning to release this update no sooner than the third week of May, and will continue to keep players posted with our progress. In the meantime, we will be sharing details and information on what content you can expect to see in this update several weeks ahead of release, so stay tuned! See you in Arkesia! The best Paladin builds in Lost ArkApr 29, 2022 - PC GamerThe best Lost Ark Paladin builds are split between the two things the class is good at: buffing, and dealing a semi-decent amount of damage. Unlike Lost Ark's other support, the Bard, Paladins can only heal if built for it, and even then won't be able to spam healing in the traditional MMO way. Still, the help they provide means paladins are always popular in the matchmaking queue. You'll rarely have trouble finding a group when playing one... It’s worth noting that this comes right off the heels of a recent update that brought the Glaivier, as well as a new region for players to explore, but which came with its own issues as surrounding a free express pass as well as ongoing troubles with bots alongside other ongoing issues. This has all led to an environment on the official forums, as well as other popular hubs for the game including the subreddit, filled with sour opinions towards the community managers working on the game. Early on in the post, community moderator Shadow_Fox writes: “CMs are human. We have human feelings. We also have human schedules. Most of us are mon-fri 9-5 PT. Some of us, like myself are on weekends and nights. We take sick days. And vacation. We have on days and off days. Glaivier is the new advanced class and she’s proper into orchestral djent judging by the trailer. The Glaivier features two skill sets, Focus and Flurry, linked to one of the ridiculously huge pointy sticks she wields: spear for fast attacks in Focus and glaive for sweeping hits in Flurry. Smilegate say a successful Glaivier can maximise their effectiveness by building up energy with one skill set for a stat boost when swapping to the other. It looks like she can really tear things up with superfast twizzles and dazzly stabbiness. The Glaivier has two distinct skill sets which can be swapped between— Focus and Flurry— with each stance and skill set represented by one of her two weapons. The shorter spear is used to unleash a furious barrage in the Focus stance, while the longer glaive harnesses the Flurry stance for gracefully lethal strikes and sweeping attacks. While certain builds may focus your attention onto one of these weapons, an effective Glaivier can maximize their potential by creating balance between the two stances, building up energy in one stance which grants an impactful stat-boost when swapping to the other. This feature, which is present in the Korean version of the game, has not yet been officially announced nor teased by Amazon Studios. Spotted by Lost Ark forum user Canary, a symbol for the Lost Ark battle pass - named the Ark Pass - can be seen right above the Welcome Challenge icon near the mini-map in the top right corner of the screen. The video also shows off several different players with class icons displayed in a PvP menu too, including some classes that aren’t in the western version of the game yet including the Reaper and Glavier. As such, if we assume that this is a super early version of the western version a decent amount of upcoming game updates may have been revealed accidentally. The most interesting additions are two new advanced classes. The first, coming in April, is the glaivier, a martial artist who fights with polearms (in the Korean version she's called the lance master). The glaivier switches between a flurry stance using a spear and a focus stance with the longer glaive, and can seemingly summon whirlwinds and teleport. In May, she'll be joined by the destroyer, a warrior with an unfeasibly large hammer capable of hitting the ground so hard it launches rock spikes that pierce enemies. Plus, his hammer shoots lightning... If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to read our letter to the community that details our approach to content coming after the March Update. For the purposes of the April & May roadmap, we’ll start off by reiterating a few things from that letter. We're going to keep the near future focused on horizontal content and giving players clear paths for progression without feeling like they need to pay. We want to give more players time to reach the end-game before introducing Legion Raids (the definitive Lost Ark raiding experience), and ensure players are able to explore Arkesia and progress at their own pace without feeling pressured to race toward end-game content. Our March 24 update included new materials to help with honing chances that can be earned in two events (the Guardian Raid Event & the Arkesia Grand Prix), more ways for players to earn weekly honing materials, and a honing materials gift for all players. April will continue that trend, providing more horizontal content for players to enjoy as they learn the systems of Lost Ark and continue to progress. With that, let’s dive into April.
