Take care, stay healthy, and have a fantastic festive period! – GuerrillaHorizon Zero Dawn 1.11 update adds Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR to help boost fpsDec 8, 2021 - PCGamesNDespite releasing over a year ago on PC, developer Guerilla has released a brand-new update for Horizon Zero Dawn. While this patch brings various performance improvements that will benefit all gaming PCs, the biggest additions are undoubtedly Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR upscaling technologies. Despite the fact that the game uses checkboard rendering on the PS4 Pro to push resolution up to 4K on the console, the same tech didn't make its way over to the PC version. However, everyone will now be able to boost fps in Horizon Zero Dawn with AMD FSR upscaling, regardless of what brand of GPU you're using. Unfortunately, you'll need one of Nvidia's best graphics cards to use the company's DLSS technology (sorry GTX 10 series owners). However, if you have a compatible card, you should enjoy a solid fps boost, while also maintaining higher visual fidelity. Read the rest of the story... We’re happy to announce we’ve just released Patch 1.11 for our PC players. Here’s what this patch contains: Graphical Improvements Added Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology. Added AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, replacing FidelityFX CAS. UI Changes Adjusted settings screen to facilitate the addition of DLSS and FSR. Render Scale option has been removed but same result can now be accomplished by adjusting setting Upscale Method to Simple and adjusting Upscale Quality. Performance Improvements Improvement to the shader management system. This will result in a few noticeable differences: There is no longer a shader pre-compilation step on startup. The game will always compile shaders during loading and in the background. Stutters during gameplay that used to occur due to background shader compilation have now been significantly reduced. Because shader compilation is still happening in the background you may notice the game having a higher CPU utilization while that is happening. Loading screens will wait for the required shaders to be fully compiled. This may cause loading screens to take somewhat longer on certain systems. On higher spec machines with faster CPUs the loading screens will typically be shorter, due to more efficient shader compilation that better leverages high-end CPUs. Please ensure your game is up-to-date before heading back out into the wilds, and reach out to us if you’re still experiencing any issues. We appreciate all of your wonderful support and feedback; we wish you a fun-filled festive period! - Guerrilla Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5 upgrade delivers a nigh-on flawless 60fpsSep 1, 2021 - EurogamerIn a Gamescom virtual event relatively light on content, the release of a free 60 frames per second PS5 upgrade for Horizon Zero Dawn was a definite highlight, giving another Sony first-party classic the full frame-rate upgrade and dramatically improving the experience as a result. This patch is an interesting, because unlocking 60fps is not as easy as flicking a switch, as demonstrated by the initial release of the PC version last year. This showed that simply removing the frame-rate cap brought into a focus a range of issues for a game designed primarily with 30fps in mind. Put simply, it's clear that this patch took real effort to produce and it's likely that many of the solutions in the revised PC version worked their way back to this new PlayStation 5 upgrade too. The bottom line is that however Guerrilla managed it, it works, and it works well. So, what does the patch actually do? On the face of it, Horizon Zero Dawn follows the template laid down by the God of War, Days Gone and the initial Ghost of Tsushima patches in that graphics are totally unchanged from the original release and frame-rate is unlocked, with v-sync providing a 60fps limit. That means that the 2160p checkerboarding solution remains in place, but the PS4 Pro's alternative 1368p native rendering performance mode option has been removed as it's essentially redundant. Despite no improvements in how the game renders, there's an argument to say that graphics have improved perceptually thanks to the frame-rate upgrade - simply because checkerboarding artefacts persist for just one display refresh now rather than two. On a modern LCD screen, this helps to blend them somewhat, making them less noticeable. In terms of actual performance, you are effectively looking at a locked 60fps experience that is nigh-on perfect. Even in backwards compatibility mode, PS5 offers substantial upgrades over PS4 Pro - a 2.5x multiplier in compute performance and twice the memory bandwidth. In prior 'back-compat plus' first-party patches, we've seen that translate into a performance bump that scales almost in line with the compute boost. With Horizon Zero Dawn specifically, we only noted one slight drop in an early cutscene, then it was a straight 60fps from there on out. If the game does deviate from the 60fps target, it should only do so fleetingly and you may not notice it at all. I'd describe performance overall as impeccable. Read more Sony confirms it bought a PC port specialist studio "to help with" PC portsJul 31, 2021 - PCGamesNEarlier this month Sony acquired Nixxes Software, a studio primarily dedicated to porting console games to PC - leading many fans to theorise that Sony bought them to work on exclusively creating PC ports of PS4 and the best PS5 games. A month later, Sony has now confirmed that this is exactly the case and Nixxes is "to help with" bringing the publisher's catalogue to PC. On July 1, Sony announced via press release that it had bought Nixxes Software "to provide high quality in-house technical and development capabilities for PlayStation Studios," with studio founder Jurjen Katsman saying that it would deliver the "highest-quality gameplay experiences for PlayStation fans". Nixxes has been around for over 20 years, and despite having a few PlayStation ports in that time its focus has primarily been on the PC - its most recent projects being the PC versions of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel's Avengers. Consequently, fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that Nixxes would be working on more PC ports for first-party PlayStation games - and now that's been confirmed. Read the rest of the story... At a minimum, Guerrilla suggests an Intel i5 2500K or AMD FX 6300 processor and 8GB of RAM, paired with a GeForce GTX 780 or Radeon R9 290 graphics card. To meet the recommended specs, you'll need 16GB of RAM and an Intel i7 4770K or Ryzen 5 1500X CPU, put together with an Nvidia GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 GPU. You'll need to clear out 100GB of space on your storage solution of choice either way. The game also supports Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR upscaling technology, which should help boost fps if your rig is struggling to meet your target frame rate. Read the rest of the story...
