Final Fantasy V

At long last, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series on PC gets classic font and music optionsJan 31, 2024 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunWhen Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection for Final Fantasies 1 through 6 back in 2021, I was overjoyed. For too long had PC folks had to 'make do' with the quite nasty mobile ports of these games, and the Pixel Remasters looked set to finally rectify that with proper versions replete with their original artwork. But one thing was missing. Well, several things were missing it turns out, but chief among them were, of course, its damn fonts - a point of contention that's plagued many a Square Enix PC port in recent years, and one that fans quickly set about trying to fix with mods. Extra salt was then added to the wound when Square Enix said that last year's Switch and PS4 versions of the Pixel Remaster series would have two different font options straight out of the box - and it's only now that the PC versions have finally caught up. Next week, Final Symphony 2 will land on all major streaming platforms, plus be available for purchase via Bandcamp. For those willing to lay down some cash rather than just stream, pre-orders begin today. Final Symphony is one of a few different FF-themed concert series’ - but it’s arguably the most ‘grown up’ of the bunch. Where the ‘Distant Worlds’ concert series and most of Square Enix’s in-house orchestra releases feature arranged performances of individual pieces from the Final Fantasy series, Final Symphony presents lengthy, winding orchestral suites that attempt to retell the story of the game - or evoke its overall mood - over the course of as much as twenty-five minutes. You would think that some simple remasters of the first six Final Fantasy games would be a shoo-in for at the very least a Nintendo Switch release. That would be a good business decision from Square Enix, but this is also the company that is insisting on pushing forward with blockchain nonsense, so who's to say what the right call is. Fortunately for us though, it seems to have acquired some sense after all, as it looks like PS4 and Switch versions of the remasters are on the way. As spotted by deals wizard and news aggregator Wario64, all six of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters have been rated for PS4 and Switch by the ESRB. Obviously this hasn't been officially revealed by Square Enix just yet, but ratings board leaking game announcements ahead of time is pretty common. Since these are the ugly mobile ports, I think it's safe to say they won't be missed, though. Both Steam pages for Final Fantasy 5 and 6 have been updated with disclaimers that they'll "no longer be available for purchase after July 27th 2021". They then say you should buy the remastered versions instead which are "coming soon". During their E3 showcase today, Squeenix announced a "Pixel Remaster" series of Final Fantasies I through VI. Information is vague right now but they sure do look like ye olde FF games with ye olde pixel art. Return to the classic medieval tale of magic, monsters and friendship as FINAL FANTASY V comes to PC! Final Fantasy V is coming to Steam later this monthSep 10, 2015 - PC GamerSquare Enix has announced that Final Fantasy V, the JPRG that first came out way back in 1992, is coming to Steam. In fact, it will arrive in just a hair under two weeks. The PC version of Final Fantasy V will feature characters and graphics "recreated" by character designer Kazuko Shibuya, updated controls and an optimized "active-time battle system," plus new content including an optional boss named Enuo created by designer Tetsuya Nomura and The Sealed Temple, a dungeon that originally appeared in the 2006 version of Final Fantasy 5 for the Game Boy Advance. Naturally, there will also be Steam trading cards and achievements to collect as well. Final Fantasy V is the latest in what I think we could call an irregular schedule of Final Fantasy games that's included announcements or launches of PC versions of III, IV, VII, VIII, Type-0 HD, XIII, XIII-2, and Lightning Returns. Slowly but surely, we're getting there. The system requirements, unsurprisingly, are extremely lightweight: Windows Vista 32-bit, a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 CPU, 2GB RAM, and DirectX 10. Final Fantasy V will go live on Steam on September 24, but is available for pre-purchase now at ten percent off its regular $16/ 11 price.
