Fallout 3

However popular you think the Fallout games are right now, you’re wrong – the numbers are astonishingApr 24, 2024 - VG247Hello there. You might be aware that, following the arrival of Amazon's Fallout TV show lots of people have been, well, playing Fallout games. It's a trend that's been pushing modding sites into new territory when it comes to serving folks ways to spice up their favorite Fallout, and now Bethesda's casually revealed some of the actual player numbers involved. It's important to note that - while hype for the second season of Amazon's Fallout is already building - Fallout 4's next-gen update hasn't even dropped quite yet. So, there's probably a chance the numbers I'm about to chuck at your face have a chance to climb at least a little bit further soon. In a couple of tweets form the offical Fallout account, Bethesda revealed that "almost five million" players were recorded in total across all of the titles in the Fallout series during a single day recently. To put that in context, that's almost a million more people than the entire estimated population of Croatia as of 2022 - which was just over 3.8 million - playing the likes of Fallout 4, New Vegas, and probably like five people playing Fallout: Tactics. Read more The Best Fallout games: Every Fallout game rankedApr 22, 2024 - VG247Fallout. It's a series of games about what happens when someone pushes that big red button to drop the nukes, damning an alternate timeline version of humanity to spend an eternity doing fun little quests among the rubble. Within that, there's scope for some of the best RPG fun you can get, no matter what kind of fun it is that you're looking for in an RPG. We've all thought about what'd happen if the bombs were to actually fall, and since 1997, first Interplay and Black Isle, now Bethesda - with some help from Obsidian and now Amazon, have offered us a chance to see just how we might fare if forced to roam the radioactive streets of post-apocalyptic America. The answer in reality is that we'd all probably die very quickly, but hey, that's what video games are for - to give us a chance to dream. But, which of the Fallouts is the best? It's a loaded question for sure, an one you'll end up answering differently depending on what you want out of a Fallout game. However, because the terrifying beast that pulls the strings of our world has yanked it in a direction where things need to be ranked on websites, here's our attempt to do just that for the Fallout series, both main-line entries and all the spin-offs that're actually worth caring about. Read more Fans might like Fallout 3 now, but back when it was announced there were so many death threats Bethesda had to hire a security guardApr 21, 2024 - VG247People generally love Bethesda's Fallout games these days, but the announcement of Fallout 3 apparently led to some quite serious death threats. Despite not receiving a mainline entry since 2015 with Fallout 4 (I'd argue 2018's Fallout 76 is more of a spinoff given its online focus), the series is doing quite well for itself at the moment. Tons of people are playing all of the games, and sales for Fallout 4 are up a ridiculous 7500% in Europe at the moment. That's obviously because of Amazon's recent live-action adaptation of the beloved video game series, which has thrust the games back into the spotlight. The show itself is doing well too, as season 2 has already been confirmed. However, things weren't always peaches and cream when it comes to Bethesda's approach to the Fallout world. In a recent video from Fallout 3 and 4 creature designer Jonah Lobe, the artist who is in part responsible for what the Deathclaw looks like these days, shared quite plainly that following the announcement of Fallout 3, the studio received a lot of death threats. "When it was announced that Bethesda was going to take on the Fallout franchise there was a lot of excitement, a lot of enthusiasm, and a lot of death threats," Lobe explained. Read more Remember Fallout 3's Three Dog? You might get to hear a "darker" DJ voiced by his actor in future Fallout TV series episodesApr 16, 2024 - VG247While Amazon's Fallout TV show crammed in more than enough references, easter eggs, and cameos - to the extent that a lot of us are still digging through them nearly a week on - there's still plenty left on the table for future episodes. Assuming a second series does go ahead, as we expect, you might get to hear a familiar voice from the Capital Wasteland take on an interesting new role. Which voice, you ask? Well, remember when you had to do a bit of satelite dish maintenance in order to learn some more info regarding what on earth the Lone Wanderer's dad had been up to after he skedaddled out of Vault 101? Yeah, the guy that gave you that little mission. Yep, it's everyone's favorite Galaxy News Radio personality, Three Dog, eeeeeoooooowwww (sorry, had to). Responding to a tweet from a fan suggesting they'd have loved to have heard him in the first series of Fallout, (thanks, TheGamer), Erik Todd Dellums, the Fallout 3 radio host's voice actor, has suggested he'd be open to making a cameo, but not as Three Dog. Read more Everybody is playing Fallout 4 and New Vegas, and it’s all thanks to Amazon’s FalloutApr 15, 2024 - VG247Turns out that the Fallout show has gotten everyone in the mood to play the games, as pretty much every title in the series has seen their player count skyrocket. Last week, Prime Video finally released its live-action adaptation of Fallout, which was quickly met with positive reviews all around. So, it should come as no surprise that players would get a hankering for the games too, which is exactly what happened. In fact, at least according to SteamDB stats, players returned to all of the Fallout games in droves, though some admittedly more than others. Fallout 4 saw the most players in game over the weekend, hitting a player count peak of 83,491 on Sunday - bear in mind a week earlier the game's player count peak was at around 24,000, so it's more than tripled its player count following the release of the show last week. It's Fallout 76 that took home a new record this weekend, though, a game you should absolutely hop onto now you've finished the show. The multiplayer take on the classic RPG franchise actually achieved an all-time high concurrent player count, hitting 39,455 players all in the game at once on Sunday. Not bad for a game that was received quite poorly at launch, but clearly people wanted to rebuild the wasteland with their friends thanks to the show. Fallout: New Vegas is doing well for itself too, though not quite as well as 76 or 4, but it did manage to hit a peak of 19,505 players. Read more Fallout: Breaking, new fan film from creator of the series that inspired Fallout New Vegas' goofiest weapon, gets its first trailerApr 9, 2024 - VG247Yup, this month just has too many cool Fallout things too keep track of. While you're probably aware of The Fallout TV Show, which we've just learned is now dropping via Amazon Prime on April 10, a number of fan projects and creations have also been arriving as part of the Fallout mania. The latest of these is the first trailer for Fallout: Breaking, a new fan film from someone you might be familiar with if you're a series veteran. For those who aren't, here's a little refresher. Back in the halcyon days of 2011, when the idea of a Fallout TV or movie adaptation seemed a little more like a pipe dream, Fallout: Nuka Break came out. Originally planned and released as a fan film, it ended up becoming a web series that ran for a couple of seasons, got some spin-offs, and was even referenced in Fallout New Vegas - via the Nuka-Breaker, a Nuka Cola sign melee weapon that's part of the Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC. Now, Nuka Break's creator, Zack Finfrock, is back with the first trailer for a new fan film he's been working on, dubbed Fallout: Breaking. As well as featuring a Nuka-Breaker - don't worry, someone does get hit with it - the first trailer for Breaking focuses on the main character, Twig, Finfrock's role from Nuka Break that he's reprising. Read more The Fallout TV Show's first settlement is like Fallout 3's Megaton, but with a "giant pile of trash" instead of the bombApr 3, 2024 - VG247Hey you. Remember the town that served as the background to the showdown in that first clip from the Fallout TV show we got last month? Well, it sounds like it's actually inspired by Fallout 3's Megaton, with a mountain of useful rubbish taking the place of the unexploded nuke. Alright, stop plotting to convince some greenhorn vault dweller to blow it up for you, Mr Burke. Seriously though, the place is called Filly and it sounds like there’s a lot more to it that just being your average wasteland trading post. In a new interview with IGN about the show, which also saw the its creators discuss how Vault 33 will be used by it in way that’s a bit different to the games, director Jonathan Nolan revealed a bit more about the place where Ella Purnell’s Lucy and Walton Goggins’ Ghoul first meet. Nolan cites the location, which serves as a bit of an introduction to the wasteland, as having drawn a lot from Megaton, which he fondly remembers serving the same purpose in his first playthrough of Fallout 3. Read more The Fallout TV Show will aim to show us something the games haven’t - your fellow Vault dwellers living it up right after you leaveApr 3, 2024 - VG247While we know the Fallout TV show that’s set to drop very soon on Prime Video will feature plenty of things you’re familiar with in terms of factions and items, even if the characters are all new, one of the things designed to help set it apart from the games sounds pretty interesting. Get ready to watch Lucy’s fellow vault dwellers have a good time without her. Now, obviously this isn’t the first time in Fallout history we’ll have gotten a peek at what’s happened to a vault that was once home to a protagonist in the time since they’ve been gone. That said, both in the original Fallout and Fallout 3, your returns to the Vault don’t exactly suggest things have been all rosy since you departed or end too well, whereas this time, it sounds like at least for a little bit, there won’t be trouble on the homefront. In a new interview with IGN about the show, director Jonathan Nolan reveals that one of the things he was most excited about in terms of the show’s script was being able to continue telling the story of the folks in Vault 33 in the immediate aftermath of its Ella Purnell-portrayed protagonist’s departure into the wastes. “Just because Lucy left the vault doesn’t mean that we have to,” he explained. “There’s a whole community back there that you’ve gotten to know a little bit.” Read more Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree's ESRB listing has plenty of new info for you, if you don't know what Elden Ring isApr 2, 2024 - VG247Desperate for more juicy info about Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC? Well, the ESRB listing for it is now live, showing us the rating and some interesting details about some of the dodgy stuff in, uh, the base game. Yes, stop wondering what life would have been like if you’d kicked off your first playthrough of the Elden Ring by chilling on a beach or which FromSoft characters Malenia might be related to, there’s a new DLC thing to gawk at. Though, if you’re expecting any cool teases about Shadow of the Erdtree’s contents, you might want to calm down a bit. You can find the listing for the DLC on the website of the ESRB, and it looks to have just become a thing. However, if you’re intimately familiar with the rating’s board’s listing for the base game, you might have trouble telling the two apart. Read more Don't worry, Todd Howard's made sure the Fallout TV show hasn't ruined any of Fallout 5's surprisesMar 11, 2024 - VG247You know the Fallout TV series that’s set to drop on Amazon Prime Video next month? Well, apparently Todd Howard’s made sure it won’t step on Fallout 5’s toes by stepping in to say no whenever an idea that’s in the plans for the game came up during the show’s filming. Yep, following last week’s fresh trailer and the show’s head honchos casually saying that it’s basically a bit like Fallout 5 because it’s… erm… a Fallout-related thing that’s happening after the release of Fallout 4, we’ve gotten a bit of clarification on that. As it turns out, the series definitely isn’t going to be like Fallout 5, because Bethesda’s premier former chess club member stepped up to stop the two from potentially ending up mimicking each other. Speaking to Den of Geek, Howard’s said regarding the show: “Well, there were some things where I said, ‘Don’t do this because we are going to do that in Fallout 5.'” He also made sure to clarify that it’s not designed to be a straight-up re-telling of any of the stories we’ve seen play out in the games, though obviously didn’t go into any detail as to the stuff he’s stopped from slipping into the show. Here's how some iconic Fallout 2 and 3 locations look in Fallout 4's engineFeb 5, 2024 - VG247If you’ve ever wondered what a couple of older Fallout games might look like if Bethesda decided to remaster them, you’re in luck thanks to the showcases put on over the weekend by Fallout 4: Project Arroyo and Fallout 4: The Capital Wasteland. If you’re not familiar with them, these are both modding projects that’re bringing Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 respectively to life in Fallout 4’s version of the creation engine, hopefully eventually offering people a fresh way to experience those entries in the series. Right now, you can check out the looks they’ve just offered at their versions of some iconic locations from both games via showcases at C3. I’ll start things off with a trip back to the late nineties thanks to Fallout 4: Project Arroyo, which has been in the works since 2019. If you’ve spent any time running around as The Chosen One taking on a mission to find a GECK that’s destined to be interrupted by some rather nasty blokes in power armour, you’ll probably be able to recognise or hazard a guess at plenty of the locales shown off in this new trailer. Read more Creator of Skyrim's dragons and Fallout 4's deathclaws set to speak at new Bethesda community modding eventJan 22, 2024 - VG247If you’re a fan of Bethesda games, a new community modding event that’s set to take place on Twitch towards the end of next week looks well worth checking out, especially now that the artist behind some of Skyrim and Fallout 4’s most iconic creatures is set to make an appearance at it. No matter whether your poison of choice is Skyrim, Fallout 4, Starfield, or something a bit more retro (sorry, old people) like Oblivion, if you’re interested in installing or creating mods for Bethesda games, the chance to get a glimpse at the work going into some of the community’s biggest projects is hard to pass up. That’s exactly what it looks like C3, the latest event organised by charity initiative Fallout For Hope, will offer, in addition to some other interesting streams. As announced via Twitter, former Bethesda character artist Jonah Lobe, who gave the likes of Skyrim’s dragons, Fallout 4’s deathclaws, and Fallout 3’s aliens their iconic appearances, is the latest community figure set to make an appearance at the event, which is set to take place on Twitch across February 2 and 3. Much like all of the previous community events put on by Fallout For Hope, which has teamed up with the likes of Sheogorath voice actor Wes Johnson in the recent past, C3 - or Community Creations Con - is set to raise money for a good cause, with Make-A-Wish International having gotten the nod this time. Read more The Fallout TV series trailer certainly looks like Fallout, except for that one cyclopsDec 2, 2023 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunPerhaps the Last Of Us TV show on HBO getting it right was the dawn of a new era of good TV based on video games, but I still approach each adaptation with trepidation. That includes Amazon's Fallout series from Westworld and Person Of Interest writer/director Jonathan Nolan, which just got its first trailer. The game's co-creator reveals allOct 30, 2023 - VG247If you’ve ever wondered which side set off the nuke that turned the Fallout universe’s conflict between the US and China from a cold war into a very, very hot one, Tim Cain, co-creator of the original RPG, has provided an answer. It was China. Yup. No big revelation that the American government was actually the one to succumb to the pressures of mutually assured destruction and doom hordes of its future citizens to irradiated lives. No conspiracies involving Vault-Tec or, god forbid, the aliens that we know have been monitoring Earth in the Fallout universe for a good while thanks to Fallout 3’s Mothership Zeta DLC. Just China. Read more Magic: The Gathering's Fallout-themed set will have you falling in love with Dogmeat all over againOct 20, 2023 - VG247Wizards of the Coast has given us our first proper look at its Fallout-themed Magic: The Gathering set, and there sure are some good looking cards to be found. Quite clearly, somewhere along the line someone at Wizards of the Coast realised that people really like unique Magic: The Gathering sets. Even more than that, people like collaborations, and the card game's latest with Fallout feels like a good fit given the video game's tabletop RPG's inspirations. Yesterday, during a Magic: The Gathering livestream, a bunch of cards from the upcoming set were shown off, including the decks that you'll be able to buy; and yes, there is a commander deck based on everyone's favourite furry friend, Dogmeat. There are a lot of good looking cards in this set, honestly. For one, Dogmeat's card, the full title being the incredibly apt "Dogmeat, Ever Loyal," has some lovely art of the best pup around getting a very caring looking pet. There's also a commander deck themed around "The Wise Mothman," which also has some strong looking art, alongside the imposing looking deck themed around Caesar, as well as the science focused deck featuring Dr. Madison Li. Read more That Oblivion remaster is seemingly real, and Fallout 3 might be getting one tooSep 19, 2023 - VG247It might be your time to rejoice, Oblivion and Fallout 3 fans, as a big Microsoft leak appears to have confirmed remasters for the pair of games are on the way. Today is not Microsoft's day, as a whole bunch of confidential details have emerged from some documents as part of the FTC's case against the tech company. For one, it's been revealed that Dishonored 3 is in the works, and perhaps slightly surprisingly, a Ghostwire: Tokyo sequel too. But the thing that Bethesda fans will most likely be interested in is that remasters of both The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and Fallout 3 are in the works. The leaked documents were shared on Resetera, showing a list of games and the years they were expected to release in. It's important to note that the Oblivion remaster was apparently planned to have been released in 2022, but obviously that year has come and gone, and we're almost finished with 2023 without any kind of official announcement about it. There was a rumour earlier this year about a potential Oblivion remake that Virtuos Games is apparently working on, but again, no confirmation on that just yet. Virtuos Games is a studio that predominantly co-develops games, and is currently assisting Konami on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.
