Escape from Puzzlegate

"Escape from Puzzlegate" to be retiredMar 12, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone, It is with great sadness that I announce “Escape from Puzzlegate” will be retired on March 26, 2018. This is not a decision I make lightly, or emotionally. It is one that has been long in coming for several reasons. The game was, by admission, released in a very poor state. I still had a lot to learn when Puzzlegate was released, and have learned a lot since then. I don’t believe the game matches up to my own personal standards, nor is it what paying customers deserve. Because the issues are so deep, however, I cannot fix them without recoding a game I have since moved past. For this reason, I cannot personally justify its continued sale. There are also financial issues that make the game unfeasible to support. The game was released, in good faith, with no DRM, relying only on Steam to verify ownership. For such a small title, released by an individual, I thought this would be enough. That good faith has been broken, and now the financial and personal cost of fighting the rampant piracy and unauthorized distribution that resulted outweighs the game's profit. These are both a failing on me as a developer, and this is a failing that will be addressed in future releases. However, for “Puzzlegate”, there is no effective way to curb what has already started, and no financial incentive to continue. For those who have already purchased the game, it will not be removed from your library. However, achievements associated with the game may be removed. I have no control over this behavior, and apologize for the inconvenience. There is a chance some purchases may be refunded, but this is determined entirely at Valve’s discretion. I truly appreciate the support that has been given to me during the game's development, and all the kind words that have been given after. I'm glad I was able to make something that gave players a little bit of joy, even if I wasn't able to support if for as long as I'm sure we all would like. I look forward to creating for all of you again, with more experience and lessons learned. Sincerely, Mole
