This is only the third Disgaea game to come to our platform but it's actually the sixth game in the main series, and it's easily the most complex Disgaea yet. The sheer feature gap between Disgaea 5 and last year's PC port of Disgaea 2 is enormous and can be overwhelming, since PC players totally missed out on Disgaea's gradual growth and iteration. And even from the beginning, these were tactics games you could lose hundreds of hours in. We've basically skipped to the end of a 300-page book after reading the first 50 pages. We've gone from studying for our learner's permit to racing in the Daytona 500. Do you see what I'm getting at? There's a lot of advanced stuff happening in Disgaea 5, and it's all happening at once. With that in mind, I want to offer some tips that will help you navigate this treacherous—but incredibly fun and rewarding—JRPG. I'm not going to meticulously explain every single mechanic in Disgaea 5, but I will help you keep your head above the water until you learn to swim for yourself. Focus on the story chapters Between Item World dungeons, the Chara World board game, Netherworld Investigations and plenty more, there are approximately one bazillion side activities in Disgaea 5. They're all fun and worth doing, but—and that's a huge, capital-B but—you don't want to get hung up on them. Don't be like me and spend 70 hours in the Item World before even finishing the story. Disgaea 5 is a huge game and the story is just a small part of that. It's easy to get overwhelmed. Feel free to dip your toes in different activities as you unlock them, but always prioritize the story missions. They are the best way to come to grips with Disgaea 5's many systems, and you'll unlock new characters, activities and resources as you progress. You'll also unlock new abilities for those characters and new features within those activities, all of which will make your life easier.  Change the difficulty and settings often Outside of the actual settings menu, Disgaea 5 has what's called a Cheat Shop which lets you rewrite the basic rules of the game. For example, you can increase how much experience you earn by decreasing how much money you earn. At any time, you can choose between one of 20 difficulty levels. If you really want to, you can even make all your characters explode (don't do this). The point is, Disgaea 5 was made to be broken, so use the Cheat Shop to your advantage and break it in half. If the story missions are getting too easy and you want a challenge, crank the difficulty up a couple levels. If you're short on money, jack up your gold rates. Whatever it is you're doing, always visit the Cheat Shop and tailor it to suit your current goa...Disgaea 5 on Steam lacks online functionality due to 'irreconcilable platform differences'Oct 23, 2018 - PC GamerDisgaea 5 Complete launched on PC earlier this week, and it's easily the largest instalment in the notoriously time-consuming strategy RPG series. But according to the game's publisher NIS America, the Steam version lacks features contained in the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions. Namely, every online feature. "Due to irreconcilable platform differences, it was decided in the beginning of development for Disgaea 5 Complete that the Network functions from the original game could not be implemented into the Steam version," publisher NIS America wrote in a statement issued after the game's release.  "We deeply apologize that these differences were not communicated in advance, and we appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. We would like to remind all users that Steam purchases come with a option to fully refund the purchase if total playtime has not exceeded two hours." Those who have purchased the game are currently venting their frustration in game's Steam review section, and it's not the first time a NIS published game has released on Steam to fan outcry. Ys Eight was delayed at the last minute due to translation and framerate woes, while the original Disgaea's PC port attracted the ire of fans due to poor performance. Here's the list of what's missing in the PC version of Disgaea 5: Data Shop • Everybody’s NW, Someone’s Records Netherworld Edit Shop • Netherworld Network, User Netherworld Map Edit Shop • Facility Removed Settings • User Netherworld, User News Strategy Assembly • Spread News to Everyone!, Give Item to a Friend! We hope this small update clears up any confusion you may experience as you jump into the world of Disgaea 5 Complete. The following network items are not available on the Steam version of Disgaea 5 Complete: Data Shop Everybody’s NW, Someone’s Records Netherworld Edit Shop Netherworld Network, User Netherworld Map Edit Shop Facility Removed Settings User Netherworld, User News Strategy Assembly Spread News to Everyone!, Give Item to a Friend! (That's how you got the initial demo too, though, so nothing's really changed on that front.) Demo saves will transfer to the full game when it's out, but demo codes are only available in limited quantities for some reason, so don't dawdle if you want one.  NIS America has also reduced the purchase price of the game, from $50 to $40, and it's available for pre-purchase on Steam for 25 percent off of that—$30/£23/€30—until October 29. Anyone who pre-purchased the game in May when it was originally offered will also get a copy of the digital art book that's included with the Digital Dood edition, or purchasable separately for $5.    Disgaea 5 Complete Available on Steam® October 22!Oct 15, 2018 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/32530184/1d6f64dc1c6fe7986b7d729a4ee9754980968920.jpg No more waiting, doods! Maybe an ancient curse? Maybe developers Nippon Ichi fell down a hole? Either way, it disappeared at the eleventh hour, after being initially planned to launch in May. Now (bar any further disasters) it’s due out next Monday, October 22nd according to publisher NIS America on Twitter. In an odd cross-promo deal with Alienware Arena, you can pick up a Steam key for a demo here. (more…) Update to Disgaea 5 Complete Pricing and Release WindowAug 16, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHello everyone, First of all, we'd like to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that the delay of Disgaea 5 Complete for PC has caused everyone. Today, we have an update for those who have been waiting. We are lowering our price for the title from the original $49.99 (discounted for pre-purchasers to $39.99), now to $39.99 (now available to pre-purchasers for $29.99). The Digital Dood edition of the game, which includes the standard game and art book, will be available for $42.73 (available for pre-purchase for $32.75). Those who pre-purchased the game back in May will be automatically upgraded to receive the art book from the Digital Dood Edition, free of charge, by purchasing the standard version of the game. Those that did not pre-purchase the title in May will need to purchase the Digital Dood Edition to receive the art book included with purchase. For those that have already pre-purchased, we thank you for your patience and appreciation. To make sure that no overcharging will occur and ensure the best price for all users, we have requested Valve to refund all purchases of the game to this date. Should you want to repurchase the title, you can now do so on this page and receive the newly lowered price. This special pricing will continue one week after release of the game. Disgaea 5 Complete will arrive on Steam in October, with a new closed beta test arriving in September. Make sure to follow us on Twitter (@NISAmerica) for immediate updates and notifications regarding the beta. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you look forward to the game's launch in October. Sincerely, NIS America, Inc.Disgaea 5 Complete delayed to fall 2018, beta coming in OctoberJul 24, 2018 - PC GamerBack in April, NIS America announced that strategy JRPG Disgaea 5 Complete is coming to PC, and the port has seen nothing but trouble since. First, players discovered that the free Steam demo could be used to play the full game, and shortly after the demo was pulled NIS delayed the game , pushing it to a vague summer 2018 release date from its initial May target. And last week, NIS quietly announced another delay on Twitter: Disgaea 5 Complete is now scheduled to release this fall.   The good news is that NIS says an updated demo will be released ahead of the full game, plus it will get a private beta in October ahead of its release. However, it's unclear how players can enter the beta or how quickly the full release will follow it. I've reached out to NIS for more information. (more…) Disgaea 5 Complete delayed days before launchMay 3, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunAn Announcement Regarding Disgaea 5 Complete on SteamMay 2, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsThank you everyone for your enthusiasm regarding the Disgaea 5 Complete release on PC. As beta testing has been ongoing, we have been fixing bugs and issues as they were discovered. While working on corrections last night, we came across a new issue that requires additional attention that will take more time to resolve. Unfortunately, until this issue can be resolved, the release date will be postponed, and we are now targeting a release for Summer 2018. We offer our sincerest apologies to all who have been looking forward to this release of the game. Currently, we have had to disable all demo keys that have been distributed. Once we have determined the game is ready for launch, we will open a new demo that will require the use of new keys. At this time, we would also like to address the concerns of our fans who pre-purchased this title. We will be posting updates as we continue to resolve the issue. The game can be re-installed as soon as the issues have been corrected. We understand that the change in release timing may affect user experience, so as an alternative, we will also be presenting a refund option. Please access the following link to proceed with a refund: http ://bit. ly/ D5CPCRefund (remove spaces for use) Below is a message from NIS America’s COO, Mitsuharu Hiraoka: “We thank you all for the support we have been given while we have been working towards the release of Disgaea 5 Complete for PC, and we wish to show our gratitude by providing our fans with the best quality game on the PC platform. We hope that you continue to look forward to this release as we proceed to work tirelessly to correct this issue.” We will update our community as we progress with fixing this issue. Sincerely, NIS America Disgaea 5 Complete is now officially delayed (Updated)May 2, 2018 - PC GamerUpdate 2: NIS America has now confirmed that Disgaea 5 Complete is delayed until sometime in the summer. The studio said that during the beta testing process, "we came across a new issue that requires additional attention that will take more time to resolve" than it had allotted in the original release schedule.  "Unfortunately, until this issue can be resolved, the release date will be postponed, and we are now targeting a release for Summer 2018," it said. "We offer our sincerest apologies to all who have been looking forward to this release of the game."  The company didn't address claims that the demo keys actually unlocked the full game and all DLC, but said that once the game is fixed and a new launch date is set, an updated demo, requiring a new key, will be released. Anyone who pre-purchased the game will be able to reinstall it as soon as the issue is fixed, and NIS is also offering refunds if that's the way you want to go.  Update: NIS America has acknowledged on Twitter that there is an issue with "the status" of the demo. There's still no word on the removal of the release date or the pre-purchase option, however.  Original story:  It appears that the release of Disgaea 5 Complete on Steam, which had been scheduled for May 7, has hit a snag. Just yesterday, publisher NIS America and Alienware got together to give away demo keys, but access to the demo has now been revoked, and the release date is no longer visible on the Steam page.  In fact, there is currently no release date at all listed on the store page, and the option to pre-purchase has been disabled. The Steam wishlist slates it for "summer 2018," however—a worryingly unspecific rescheduling that suggests something, somewhere, has gone very wrong.  That concern is obviously heightened by the Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana experience, an unbridled gong show of postponements that stretched out for half a year before finally landing with a wet splat in April. (Tellingly, the reviews linked on the Ys 8 Steam page are for the PS4 version, which came to North America in 2017.)  NIS America hasn't publicly commented on the reason for the revoked Disgaea 5 Complete demo, or the apparent change in release date. I've emailed the company for more information and will update when I receive a reply.  A Disgaea 5 Complete demo is now available from AlienwareMay 1, 2018 - PC GamerDisgaea 5 Complete, which Austin said last month is the best Disgaea, is coming to PC on May 7. Not sure if you're interested? Publisher NIS America has hooked up with Alienware to give away a big bunch of Steam demo keys.  To get one, hit up alienwarearena.com and click the button that says "get key." There are a couple of catches: You'll need to create an account, even if you log in with your social media or Steam accounts, and you've only got until May 12 to get it. Having jumped through requisite hoops, you will be presented with a Steam key, which will lead you to a roughly 6GB download. Finish that up and voila, a Disgaea 5 Complete demo is yours to do with as you please.  "Supplies" are limited, which is a concept in digital distribution that I've always found ridiculous, but regardless of what I think only a limited number of keys will be handed out. The good news is that, right now at least, there are plenty left—a little more than 40,000 last time I looked. The strategy-RPG Disgaea 5 Complete, which include the base game plus eight bonus scenarios, four "fan-favorite" characters, and three character classes that were originally released as DLC for the PS4 version of the game, is available for pre-purchase on Steam for $50/£40/€50.  Disgaea 5 Complete coming to PC next monthApr 6, 2018 - PC GamerIn May 2017, an ESRB Rating Board listing suggested Disgaea 5 Complete, the latest and greatest edition of the once-PS4-exclusive strategy JRPG, was coming to PC. It took awhile, but today NIS America quietly confirmed this: Disgaea 5 Complete will release on PC on May 7, 2018 according to its newly minted Steam page.  For the uninitiated: Disgaea is a series of proudly over-the-top strategy JRPGs with turn-based, grid-based combat. You build characters, gear them up, group them into parties and venture into tightly structured campaign missions and literally infinite dungeons. And if the art didn't give it away, they are very anime games, known for their anti-heroes, dark humor and absurdist stories.  Disgaea 5 in particular, with its wealth of characters and features not seen in the PC ports of Disgaea and Disgaea 2, can devour hundreds of hours in a single gulp. This is a game where your level 9,999 character, standing atop a human totem pole of all of your other characters, can deal 10,000,000,000 damage in a single attack—only for the boss on the receiving to get back up. It's a virtually endless game, but if you like JRPGs or strategy games, you probably won't want it to end. Disgaea 5's Complete edition comes with all the DLC released since its PS4 debut. That comes to eight bonus scenarios plus four fan-favorite characters and three classes plucked from previous games. Seeing as how it's the third Disgaea to come to PC, it also shouldn't come with the bugs that tripped up Disgaea PC and, to a lesser extent, Disgaea 2 PC, which happens to be 50 percent off on Steam through Sunday, April 8.  Disgaea 5 Complete Beta Testing!Apr 6, 2018 - Community Announcementshttps://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/32530184/483505e768e630f976181129a311478f856afc1f.jpg You know what time it is, my doods!
