This new game mode challenges players in a desperate race against the clock to find and defeat a monstrous threat before it overwhelms and destroys the Kingdom. Journey across the land to gather resources and battle evil incursions, all while defending a network of safe haven Inns. Acquired resources are used to upgrade heroes and also the Inns themselves, which can be improved via extensive upgrade trees. Players will embark on unique quest lines and fight back against three new monster factions: The Coven, Beastmen and Crimson Courtiers. Kingdoms can be played independently of the game’s original “Confessions” campaign. We announced Kingdoms earlier today as part of the Triple-i Initiative. We want to send a massive thank you to those who played our demo in February and sent us feedback. Based on your comments, we made a number of improvements to our driving system, the Valley and first time user experience - along with a huge swath of new content and features. We wanted to take this opportunity to discuss what you can expect on May 8th, and beyond. At launch the game will feature 12 playable characters with a complete narrative featuring 5 acts. Each act is a challenging expedition in which you assemble a party of four heroes and then navigate a series of deadly regions in a quest to reach the Mountain, which houses an imposing end boss themed to that particular Confession. The final two acts and our blight-fueled 12th playable character, The Flagellant, will be new to our 1.0 release. You can also expect to see corpse art, hero palettes, weapon kits, radiant and infernal flames, achievements and a plethora of other features on May 8th. We’re not done yet, either. The original Darkest Dungeon was well supported post-launch with the addition of town events, radiant mode, and multiple new enemies. Our approach is the same with Darkest Dungeon II. I think they annoyed me. But in going back to the original to refamiliarise myself, it made me see them differently - isn't it funny how our minds can idolise things to the point of infallibility? I thought very highly of Darkest Dungeon. But by seeing it laid bare, I see the sequel better, and now, I'm a fan. It's all about the carriage - that's the big change. It's a wooden thing pulled by a horse, very much like the carriage in Darkest Dungeon's opening sequence. And this time it's your home. You no longer have a static base. That hamlet on the hill that you rebuilt in DD, that's gone. Now you live life on the road. Immediately, you'll notice this gives the game a more cinematic look. The carriage sections are 3D - a first for the series - and you steer it through areas that change depending on your mission. There are cursed farm landscapes where bulging flesh grows like parasites on crops, there are cities aflame like hellish infernos, and there are towns turned to graveyards, where flayed corpses hang like dirty washing on lines. It's impressively atmospheric, and as grotesquely horrible as Darkest Dungeon ever was. Because of its past, The Rudiment can still behave like any other humans, even though it sometimes leads to some… misunderstandings. Depending on the task, the Rudiment can be a nice melee damage dealer or a great tank and supporter who is capable of protecting one ally during a whole battle and wreak havoc on the ranks of enemies.
