Acro Storm

Alive, Revving Back UpSep 14, 2019 - Community AnnouncementsYes, we aren't dead. We deeply apologize for the lack of communication for some time- we should've just been honest about it and said that development had unfortunate had to break for a while. However, we have gotten back to business, slowly but surely. That's right, development has resumed, and as an example of that, we have a patch that's bigger than it might seem. A lot of our backend and how we originally coded the game proved...untenable for future updates, and a lot of what we've done helps fix that. We've adjusted several things in regards to how the game handles data saving and some mechanical functionality, and online functionality has basically been reworked from scratch in order to provide a smoother experience, hopefully. Here's a general list of what we've changed: - General: - Performance improvements. We've improved on framerate stability while lowering the computational power necessary, allowing for a smoother game experience online and offline. - Saving race data in the cloud. This is primarily for future updates when character and story functions are released, but it DOES allow you to now save your best times and not have to worry about redoing it elsewhere. - Character stats have been remade. They have been redesigned to have more impact in races, allowing for a more diverse group of racing styles. - A number of backend changes have been made to facilitate easier implementation of future modes such as story mode, as well as further optimizations. - Race Specific: - Online: Racer nameplates are now being occluded by geometry and are positioned on the racer correctly. - Racer nameplates now show in single player as well. - You can no longer back over the finish line to quickly complete a race. Yeah, that was weird. - Weapons: - Homing Missiles now target correctly. The algorithm has been adjusted so that they no longer swerve as wildly and reach the target faster. - Now, if you're being targeted by Homing Missiles, a targeting reticle will appear on your bike to indicate that you are indeed being targeted. - Mortar Bombs are now easier to throw correctly. They are now lobbed from the bike, and should be thrown at a fixed angle, allowing better aiming and increasing their usefulness. Known Bugs Specific to this Patch: - Iban Jungle is undergoing revisions. Currently, there is a bug where once you start a race on the track, it will continue past lap 3. We apologize for this silly regression and will fix it ASAP. ------------- This is by far not an exhaustive list of patch notes, nor is it all we've been working on. We are in the final stages of testing a new character for the game, and are currently working on getting Iban Jungle at a much more playable state, in addition to working on newer levels to play. There is consideration of perhaps implementing these stages in an unfinished state to allow public player suggestions, but we're unsure. We'd like feedback on this idea! For anyone still with us, thank you so much! And again, we...Event DelayFeb 23, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsHowdy folks! This is a quick patch to fix one or two small problems we noticed: -Grand Prix now goes through all four races before the trophy is presented. -Weight effects are now fix across the board- hitting walls will cause much worse slowdown to higher weight vehicles. -Graphical glitch where sometimes the weapon drive gauge (blue segmented bar) would sometimes remain filled even though drives have been spent has been fixed. We've got much more coming down the pipleline, so keep a lookout! Safe races, and happy holidays!Quick Patch 0.2.8Dec 21, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsHello, racers! As you can tell, we're trying to increase our updating speed lately, and in that effort we've released a smaller patch fixing a few issues: General The mesh cleaning error should no longer be present at the start of a race. -Loading Screens have been added to the game. -Music in races now only begins upon race countdown finishing. No longer need to select 'Use Color' in main menu for vehicle color change. Weapons Mines: Total mines laid have been reduced from 5 mines to 3. Vulcan Cannon: No longer rebounds on all surfaces. Tracks Treen Port: Fixed a whole host of problems. Added and repositioned boost pads. Added and repositioned weapon drives. Fixed collision errors in various places. Fixed kill plain errors. Adjusted Terrain in some areas. Track now lifts slightly before the underwater tube for an easier target. Iban Jungle: Increased graphical quality of Iban Jungle Added and positioned weapon drives Added and positioned boost pads Vehicles Bear: Reduced Top Speed by 10 mph. With all this, we hope your racing will be better than ever! As always, please be sure to leave feedback and suggestions as we continue on with development of Acro Storm. Thanks for anyone and everyone who chooses to share the game with friends or point us out- we can't continue development of this game without people like you!Version 0.2.7 Up!Dec 6, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsHowdy! That said, we HAVE been working on the game as able, and so far here are the fruits of our labors- the new bikes 'Tengu' and 'Bear'! Tengu is a Pocket-class bike, intended to be something for those that need a bit more pep, but don't mind getting a bit more risky with their driving style than the Starchaser! Bear is something big and brutal, but not so much it can't turn a bit better than the Wildcat- if at the cost of some speed. Not only that, we've made some other adjustments as well: -Adjusted snow effects in Berice, things should look better now. -Continued work on Iban Jungle in terms of assets and level design. Iban Jungle has been added to primary builds. Please note the AI for Iban is still incomplete! -We've also adjusted the lighting and are tweaking online functionality. There's a slew of other under the hood changes as well for better functionality and bugfixes. As usual, let us know if anything screwy pops up and we'll do our best to fix it! That's right, you can now play with your friends! You can engage in a Quick Match and get paired up with random folks, or make a particular lobby of your own, for up to eight people. It should be noted that there's a whole host of features intended for online play, and many aren't available just yet, so stay tuned on that front! Also, keep in mind that as this is in Early Access...expect bugs! Please, PLEASE make sure to report them! Aside from that, here are the patch notes! General: Added online multiplayer options Minor bug fixes Levels: Fixed some floating geometry in Batam Desert Adjusted camera brightness in Berice Icefields Plugged some holes in Treen Port Improved lighting in Treen Port Updated ocean surface shaders Weapons: Reworked Mortar functionality: it now fires in a more-predictable arch with less chance of accidently injuring the shooter Adjusted Power Drain values: It now gives the shooter slightly less energy than they drain from the target. Made weapons optional for Arcade races Bikes: Added Dynabat Minor adjustments to stats Thanks a ton for waiting, and we'll keep things racing forward as best we can!0.2.5 is live!Aug 9, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsAlrighty, been a tic, but we finally got something for you! So we ARE still working on the game- in fact, we can proudly say online play is functional! We just ran across a couple of gamebreaker bugs we needed to iron out, which is proving a bit dicey- particularly since one of the main programmers on the project has had some obligations he needs to deal with, which has caused some delays. That said, we're working to alleviate this issue with the rest of the team, and hopefully it won't happen again any time soon. Seriously, we appreciate the patience, and we're horribly sorry for the delay.Brief UpdateAug 4, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsHey all! And here's what on, specifically: -Finishing up the Iban Jungle level. We've really been working hard on this stage, and it's coming along slowly but surely. It's still not complete, but we're making good progress on it. -Testing out our new development tools. We've been doing well on that front as well, and it's proven rather useful- aside from Iban Jungle, we have two more tracks now initialized and raceable- technically. Even if there's no style to them yet, the actual courses are present and workable! -ONLINE PLAY. We've been heads down on this most of all, and we're pleased to say that it's coming along swimmingly! Although there's still functions and features to work out, we do currently have connectability present for Quick Race functionality, and we're working on the lobby functions at the moment. -Active Tutorial. For anyone who might be having difficulty learning the general functions of how to play, we're crafting a tutorial mode for everyone that goes through the basic controls and how weapons work. This should be ready by the next build. -Options for races. You'll be able to select your lap count, AI opponents, and whether you'll have weapons active in the race or not come next build. -More vehicles! We're testing two more bikes- one sport and one cruiser, and they should be ready for deployment in the next build. Overall, online functionality is the major thing, as well as the level construction. We apologize for not keeping quite as in touch as promised, but thanks for badgering us about it- not even being snarky. It helps to let us know you all still care! Now, as for WHEN the next build will be? Ideally within the week. Some things will be put towards the 'beta' access version, some others won't be available at all yet (like the online functionality, they're still too unstable for even public beta testing, in our humble opinion). Keep your eyes open, and thanks again! Current EventsJul 1, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsAlright, soo...it's been some time! But, we've been rather busy! Yup.)Apr 27, 2017 - Community AnnouncementsSo, for anyone who might be interested, we're going to try something new- we'll be putting halfway done tracks up- but you have to opt into the Beta system (you can find it in the Properties menu for the game) in order to receive those particular downloads. We want to see your feedback about the new track, Iban Jungle- specifically for the track layout, as the graphics aren't even CLOSE to done, as you'll see soon. Please, feel free to say what you like or dislike or what you hope for the track! We're still crafting it, so now's your chance to have input! Thanks for your time. If this goes well, we'll continue putting out early stages under the beta system, while leaving the normal build setup for more complete stages.New Beta (For Early Access? Sorry about the delayed communication; we've all been severely heads down in working on the latest pack for Acro Storm. In general, we've done some updates to the music and sound effects, tweaked a few values (meaning: done a ton of programming work), improved the Acro Stadium track a bit more, and we're currently working on a brand-new jungle track! That last bit is really what's taking us so long- it's kind of a bugbear trying to get a new track set up and working well with the AI; we've made some advancements in the production pipeline, but some things just require a lot of man-hours. That said, we got an idea from a certain lemony someone, and it may well be considered- having early early WIP tracks available to the public in order to test out and provide feedback on. We're going to discuss this, and we'd obviously like your opinions on whether we should do it or not- we're aware that first impressions are very important, even with Early Access, so hopefully you can understand why this'll take some debate. For example, the jungle level currently looks like this http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27064443/fdbc3353658f74447dce7948baafa1dfc6d271df.png, http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27064443/5ec978aad9e710f0c36ffc803a31c46b950a99b5.png and we're hoping to make it look kinda like this http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27064443/9602e8e7759d52485ec5d1a98998bf5d4fd4eee2.jpg http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/clans/27064443/eea95466857f37367351e681a31f268f70040374.jpg only prettier. That takes a LOT of work. We're also hoping to introduce online play sooner than later, so that's another thing we've been jonesing towards. That said, we've not abandoned the game at all, nor do we have any intention to for some time. We appreciate the concern, though! ...and we'll do better to keep you all in the loop, even before things are finished. Thanks, and hope to get your responses soon!
