And while we think that's a good thing, it can be understandably hard to keep up with. Potentially exciting gems are sure to be lost in the deluge of new things to play unless you sort through every single game that is released on Steam. So that’s exactly what we’ve done.  Lucah: Born of a Dream Steam page Release: August 21 Developer: melessthanthree Price: $20 An action-RPG with the focus on stamina, dodging, and respawning to try again familiar from Dark Souls, but a combat system based on shifting stances a little like Absolver, and visuals that are unique. It's sketchy, like colored chalk scratched out from under charcoal, and nothing seems to stand still for very long. Which is apt, because that's exactly how you have to play to survive the punishing combat. Fortunately there are difficulty options. 7 Billion Humans Steam page Released: August 23 Developer: Tomorrow Corporation Price: $15 7 Billion Humans is a new game from the creators of World of Goo, Little Inferno, and Human Resource Machine. It seems to be building on the later of those three in particular, scaling Human Resource Machine up—way up. It's the future and machines have made humans redundant, so the only thing left is to use all of humanity to power machines. I think? You've got an office building full of tiny Jhonen Vasquez-looking people to automate, programming them as if they're a computer program made of meat. It's a bit odd, yes. The King's Bird Steam page Released: August 23 Developer: Serenity Forge Price: $20 It's been a good couple of years for fans of stylish indie platformers. The King's Bird is another, with a striking color palette and an unusual movement mechanic. It's all about soaring, gathering speed and then leaping into flight, changing direction in mid-air while your white scarf flicks around you. There's a wordless story being told, but mostly it's about manipulating your momentum for graceful aerial maneuvers. Age of Gladiators II: Rome Steam page Released: August 20 Developer: Creative Storm Entertainment Price: $20 "Like Football Manager but with Roman gladiators" would be the reductive comparison to make about Age of Gladiators II: Rome. You put together a team of warriors, then send them off to the arena to fight other gladiators as well as tigers and bears in turn-based battles. Between bouts there's training, management, and opportunities to raid caravans for extra cash and assassinate those you're in debt to. Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier Steam page Released: August 24 Developer: Imaginati Studios Price: $20 An interactive movie set between Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, Last Frontier is part big-decision Telltale series and part David Cage game (the developers have cited Heavy Rain as an inspiration), only with more apes. You play...NEW UPDATE (8/24)! It was billed as a people-powered puzzle game where you direct groups of humans to solve programming challenges, and as the official the sequel to Human Resource Machine. It launched earlier today on the back of a new trailer (above): 7 Billion Humans is now available on Steam , Humble and GOG for $15.  "Where Human Resource Machine was based on Assembly and executed by a single worker, 7 Billion Humans has an all new language that lots of workers can all execute at the same time," the Steam page reads, promising "incomprehensible cutscenes" and over 60 levels to solve. Tomorrow Corporation also maintains that programming know-how is not necessary: "You'll be taught everything you need to know!"  To celebrate the launch of 7 Billion Humans, Human Resource Machine will be included with it provided you buy on or before Sunday, August 26. If you already own Human Resource Machine, you'll have the option of gifting the freebie to a friend.  7 Billion Humans is Out!Aug 23, 2018 - Community AnnouncementsAlso, we're giving away a free copy of Human Resource Machine to everyone who purchases through Sunday, August 26. Already a proud owner of HRM? Your friends and family will thank you for the gift, and for helping them stay prepared in tomorrow’s modern world! Kyle, Kyle, Allan, and PeteTomorrow Corporation s 7 Billion Humans is out nowAug 23, 2018 - Rock, Paper, Shotgun I’m not much of a programmer but I do like when Zachlikes dress the logic as e.g. making a pretty machine, so I’m especially pleased that the latest from Tomorrow Corporation remakes programming as something I’m intimately familiar with: bossing people around. 7 Billion Humans, the follow-up to their 2015 game Human Resource Machine, has just launched. It has us program a parallel computer which is made of little people shuffling around. I think I shall begin my reign of computational terror by yelling at then firing the biggest integer on my first day, just to show them I can and will. See you wonderful 7 Billion Humans soon! World of Goo dev s new game launches next weekAug 16, 2018 - PC Gamer7 Billion Humans, the new game from World of Goo creators Tomorrow Corporation, will launch next Thursday. The announcement came via a new trailer shared on Kyle Gabler’s Youtube channel, showing the game in action. While Tomorrow Corporation is best known for World of Goo, 7 Billion Humans is actually a direct follow-up the studio’s most recent game Human Resource Machine, which focussed on teaching its players how to use programming commands through the medium of instructing a group of office workers to solve puzzles. It was kind of a halfway house between Lemmings and sudoku, albeit more fun than that description makes it sound, according to PC Gamer’s Angus Morrison anyway. By the looks of things, 7 Billion Humans is also a programming puzzle solver, but there are some key differences. Where Human Resource machine used Assembly as the basis for its programming language, 7 Billion Humans uses a bespoke language written by the developers. Moreover, Human Resource Machine only allowed one of its workers to execute commands, whereas 7 Billion Humans allows every worker in a puzzle to execute at the same time. 7 Billion Humans is also much larger than its predecessor, offering 60 unique puzzles, three times as many as Human Resource Machine. It’s intended to be a little more forgiving on the player too, offering the ability to request hints and skip any puzzles that are particularly obstructive. The announcement trailer is below. Keep an eye out for 7 Billion Humans descending on Steam as of August 23. 7 Billion Humans puts a cheerily dystopian face on programming next weekAug 15, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunFirst World of Goo, then Little Inferno, then Tomorrow Corporation even made programming a bit sinister in Human Resource Machine. Next week, they’re rolling out 7 Billion Humans, sequel to Human Resource Machine. Robots have taken over the world, and in order to give our now-redundant species something to do, they’ve bundled us all into a towering office building. It’s up to you to program them to make work happen, because that’s what humans do. The darkly comical (and surprisingly educational) game will be out next Thursday, August 23rd. Kyle, Kyle, and AllanLittle Inferno devs reveal incredible road trip adventure Welcome To The Information SuperhighwayMar 15, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunTomorrow Corporation, them folks behind Little Inferno and the upcoming 7 Billion Humans, and whose staff have the likes of World of Goo, assorted EA things and Henry Hatsworth on their storied CVs, are at it again. ‘It’ tends to mean playfully exploring the outer boundaries of what makes a game a game, but apparently their upcoming Welcome To The Information Superhighway “is shaping up to be one of the more game-like games we ve made.” It’s also, it would seem, shaping up to be a road trip though a vibrant interpretation of the best and worst of the internet. (more…) World of Goo creators announce new puzzle game 7 Billion HumansJan 24, 2018 - PC Gamer7 Billion Humans is a people-powered programming puzzle game set in a world ruled by machines. It was announced by developer Tomorrow Corporation today as a direct follow-up to 2015's Human Resource Machine.  The announcement trailer is bleak, but the premise is interesting. Essentially, you order office workers to complete tasks by treating them as variables in a unique programming language. Tomorrow Corporation says 7 Billion Humans improves on the language used in Human Resource Machine with the addition of multi-worker execution—again, bleak.  "You'll be taught everything you need to know," the game's Steam page says, presumably trying to comfort the people who look at programming like a gazelle looks at a lioness (hello). It seems there are also more puzzles this time—over 60 in all.  Tomorrow Corporation is a small studio consisting of World of Goo designer Kyle Gabler, Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure designer Kyle Gray, and former EA developer Allan Blomquist. They released their first game, Little Inferno, in 2012.  7 Billion Humans does not yet have a release date, though Tomorrow Corporation says it's "initiating soon."  7 Billion Humans is World of Goo dev s new programming gameJan 24, 2018 - Rock, Paper, ShotgunThe robots are coming, and they’re coming for YOUR JOB – so proclaims the trailer for Tomorrow Corporation’s new game 7 Billion Humans. You might know Tomorrow Corporation as the studio behind Little Inferno or World of Goo, but they’ve just announced a follow-up to their 2015 programming game Human Resource Machine. HRM was all about automating a single office worker’s tasks using simple(ish) programming commands, but 7 Billion Humans kicks things up a notch and enters the wonderful and intimidating world of parallel computing. Not sure what that means? Me neither! Let’s try and figure it out together. (more…)
